Customer service at this store is top notch! Needing a rug pad to give more cushion to a new family…read moreroom rug and not wanting to wait the few days to receive one from Amazon, I started calling flooring stores in Hood River. There only a handful of flooring stores and none of them stock rug pads, including Home Depot. Kat answered the phone at Swell City Carpet with a cheerful hello. After listening to my request, she told me if I placed the order before noon, their warehouse in Odell would include the pad on their delivery at 1pm, same day. What? Price was a bit higher than online but totally worth it for the convenience. Friends are coming to help move the furniture so we can put down the new rug properly and I don't want to go through the hassle again when a rug pad would arrive. This makes it a one and done. Or do it right the first time! While there I checked out the small, but well represented store. An entire section dedicated to different types of hardwood floor, tile and carpet. A section for paint and all the supplies needed if you are doing it yourself or a contractor. Plus lots of hardware store items. Located right on Cascade Avenue a few blocks east of Safeway, its an easy stop when you are running errands. Oh, and Kat even carried the rug pad to my car! Much appreciated.

Had to call them back for redoing an all glass storm door, probably the easiest glass to be cleaned. Then I was cleaning interior and saw that part of the large exterior windows was totally untouched. Pete stopped by while I was cleaning my north roof and said they could do that. I agreed. They used a rough/stiff plastic broom that I would never use on my three tab. After they left I saw that one of the tabs was broken off. Pete denies any responsibility. Cost of replacement of that half of the roof is $8600. I will not use them again. use them, Now the screen portion of that same storm door is missing. The only way it would have been removed is when it was cleaned by the employees. Professional screen repair person says he does not have the ability to replace. I now have insects of all kinds in the house from mosquitoes to tiny green critter about 1 mm big. What do I do? Only thing I can figure out is to tape screen wire over the opening. Ugh. Three things wrong in one visit. I think it was not adequately training new employes. The one must have never cleaned a window in their life. Not cheap. Their website says to text them, so I did to ask for a quote while I waited for other company quotes as well. It was less than a week ahead of time so I didn't have a lot of hope anyone would be available. Fortunately, they were able to fit me in. At the time of me texting them and planning the schedule, they were dealing with a health emergency of one of their employees, so some responses were delayed but they were very transparent about their situation and I appreciated the honesty despite it being stressful at times from being so up in the air, and involving a couple reschedules. From my experience it seems like HRC may be more a group of freelance cleaners as opposed to a uniformed cleaning company with their own van kind of thing (which probably saves you money because of less overhead). Carah was the cleaner who came in her own car with her own cleaning supplies, and for the second half of her shift brought an assistant to make sure they finished within the agreed-upon time span (sorry did not get her name). Carah asked if it was okay first and did not charge me extra. They split up the remaining work and were very thorough. In the kitchen they got the oven and microwave squeaky clean, and the bathroom cleans were so thorough she even asked for a screwdriver to unscrew the ceiling vents for a proper dust cleaning. I would have never thought to do that but i really made a difference. They did have to borrow a few things like the mop, broom, and vacuum, which was no biggie, but if you don't have those items you should confirm with them ahead of time. I didn't expect her to take a full hour break in the middle of what was supposed to be a 4-5 hour shift, and after being over an hour late to arrive. I realize I was a stressed out mess from moving, and of course I wanted her to take a break because I'm not a monster.. I just didn't expect her to be gone that long and it made the already delayed shift last even longer. But she didn't charge me much extra for the extra time or the extra person, and when the other person forgot to do the inside of the fridge, she offered to come back as early as the same night or give me some money back (which I didn't do, just appreciated the offer). Overall, they did a good job.

I'll keep this as brief as possible and stick to the facts. Macadam installed new carpet for us. It…read morewasn't a small job: we paid around $13k for it. We worked with Angel in the office, Sean in the field, and Jessica ran the carpet crew that performed the install. The morning of the install, Sean informed us they couldn't find the carpet. They lost the carpet! We had the house all boxed up, our dog and kids were away for the day, and we even had professional movers over to help disassemble and move a large entertainment center. Macadam eventually found our carpet, but two weeks had passed by the time it was able to get installed. This was not the only issue we had with Macadam. First, the crew took pictures of themselves pretending to play my son's guitar (and other similar pictures with our things). Jessica said they take pictures like that sometimes for their professional social media accounts. It made me very uncomfortable. Second, they damaged and repaired our bedroom door and never told us. The repair work is highly visible (at least it's low on the door). Third, there are visible seams in the carpet. Fourth, when they attempted to repair the seams, they asked if they could cut carpet from another part of the house to use in the repair. We said no. They ignored our wishes and cut carpet from several rooms when we weren't around. We know this because (a) they left carpet scraps from the cutting and (b) the area where the carpet meets the wall looks worse than before. Fifth, the carpet they cut from was in rooms with closed doors, including a bedroom and walk-in closet with laundry and pets. They entered closed off rooms without asking and performed work we said not to do. Sixth, even after the repair, there are still visible seams in the carpet. Seventh, we let Angel know about all these issues and Macadam offered what we consider to be an inappropriately small reduction to our bill (including a small cash discount and not charging us for moving furniture). FWIW, our interior designer, who has a lot of experience working on projects like this, thought a 50% reduction in the total bill was appropriate just based on the hassle caused by the lost carpet (ripple effect with other projects we had going on). She didn't know about any of the other issues when she made that statement. Given that the quality of the work was far below our expectations, the incompetence around losing the carpet, directly ignoring our wishes w/r/t cutting the carpet, and the invasion of privacy from entering closed rooms and taking pictures with our belongings, we will not use Macadam for a carpet project again. Moreover, I wouldn't let anyone from that crew back in my house for any reason. Two stars because even though this project fell far below our expectations, it's still nice carpet.

They're plexiglass with tubing on the rim for a tight fit in the window casing and fit over your existing windows. I was able to install them myself on three large windows without help - it took about 20 minutes. They're expensive but I found they were worth it because I can sleep now and they look great - can't even tell they're installed. They work exactly the same as glass window inserts I got on other windows in my house. You could do a DIY option by making your own plexiglass inserts, but I liked that these were easy to install, fit tightly, easier to remove than glass inserts, and had a safety chain on the inside. Shipping took a few weeks and they send a laser measuring tool so the inserts fit tightly even if the windows are odd sizes. I got the acoustic commercial version with white tubing.

In the end I decided to go with another local provider. However a couple months later I see my PayPal account has an invoice charge from them in $175 for their "measurement kit".
