As we remodeled, I knew I wanted something fresher and contacted Gorge Blinds, a Hunter Douglas seller/installer. Jean was very helpful right from the start, making it easy to learn about different styles, pros & cons of different choices, and so on. I admit that I felt some "sticker shock" when I got the quote ... and had to do some thinking about the value proposition. While thinking, I talked to some of Gorge Blinds' previous clients. They were highly praised in terms of the quality of the product (with one client contrasting it with a competing product from Home Depot that her daughter had purchased, and Hunter-Douglas coming in far superior in terms of quality and engineering), but also in terms of the service from Gorge Blinds. We went ahead with the purchase, and the team from Gorge Blinds showed up exactly when expected to do measurements and finalize color choices, and then did a clean and professional installation on the product. It's been about 6 weeks now, and I love the blinds - they've made a big difference in the appearance of the room, and in providing great room darkening (important for that room in the summer with our bright early mornings). I'm sure we'll be back with Gorge Blinds on our next purchase.

Typically I drive from Mosier to Home Depot but not anymore! Tum-A-Lum has everything I need and I don't have to walk across a massive store to pick up 2 or 3 items. Seeking an Allen wrench, wallboard joint compound and a fine grain sandpaper wedge to repair old nail holes in my wall, a worker noticed me searching the aisles and immediately offered help. Within minutes I had what I came in for and then spent another 10 minutes walking around to check out the inventory. Need a new kitchen faucet? Paint supplies? Hardware for doors, picture hanging, dressers? Cabinets and tiles to remodel a bathroom or kitchen? Garden and yard tools and BBQs? Lighting, plumbing and electrical supplies? Even plants, vegetables, soil, seeds and ceramic pots of your garden in their small garden area out front.. They have have a little of everything and a lot of some things! And of course lumber. I've passed by so many times while visiting Hood River, but always assumed it was a lumber supply store for construction, not open to retail. And never realized they were also a hardware store. Located right off exit 65 on I-84 it's super convenient and they have a large parking lot. Yum-A-Lum is now my go-to place for all of my fix-it needs!

As Matt and I were walking around, we found some home pond ideas. They do sell the tubs to create a pond in your backyard, which is actually really cool. Now, back to my original serial killer comment... they carry copious amounts of shovels, industrial-grade duct tape, heavy-duty rubber gloves, flags for like sprinklers, and more along those lines. If I were going to murder someone and planned it out, I'd probably come here for all of the supplies to dispose of my victims. Small town, poor customer service because of being a female, unlimited supplies. It's literally perfect for that kind of thing! Which is sadly, the most memorable thing about my visit in here. There only a handful of flooring stores and none of them stock rug pads, including Home Depot. Kat answered the phone at Swell City Carpet with a cheerful hello. After listening to my request, she told me if I placed the order before noon, their warehouse in Odell would include the pad on their delivery at 1pm, same day. What? Price was a bit higher than online but totally worth it for the convenience. Friends are coming to help move the furniture so we can put down the new rug properly and I don't want to go through the hassle again when a rug pad would arrive. This makes it a one and done. Or do it right the first time! While there I checked out the small, but well represented store. An entire section dedicated to different types of hardwood floor, tile and carpet. A section for paint and all the supplies needed if you are doing it yourself or a contractor. Plus lots of hardware store items.
