There is frequently a food truck or two parked on the perimeter. I've visited a couple times and there are a lot of people during nice weather. There is definite need for available restrooms - there are a couple bathrooms, they were just locked (even though the signs said they were open). Luckily, we found 1 port-a-potty at the far edge of a baseball diamond. The pond also needs some love - there is quite a bit of smelly algae, and I imagine the dissolved oxygen levels are low due to high water temperatures, especially during the summer. Not sure how well the fish are doing, and it is HEAVILY fished. However, it was nice to see so many families enjoying the pond and I love seeing parents teach their kids how to fish. As an ecologist, it is sad to see Honey Creek is still confined to the concrete channel that runs through the park. But the ducks and geese seem pretty happy. A solid 3.5ish stars, will be back next time I'm in the area.

Plenty of space for dogs to play, basketball, baseball fields, tennis courts and paved access to the Milwaukee River Trail. There is a dog group that meets there most mornings around 7.00 so if you don't like being bombarded with off leash dogs, steer clear around that time. The river access is awesome and the river can be taken north to Estabrook park, or south to gordon park and all the way to downtown if you connect with the beerline. The rivertrail is almost always empty, any time of day. Great for dog walking. You'll forget you are in the city.

I hadn't planned on going to this playground, heck, I had never heard of it before... But, our plans to head to the zoo got foiled by the massive lines from the free Senior day. So, I opened Yelp, searched for playground, and this beauty popped up. Yelp, you saved the day, yet again! The little kids side (2-5) is unique, but in a positive way. I feel like most little kids areas are the same basic=boring setup. It sorta reminded me of the old woman who lived in a shoe, with a sloped roofline and misshapen/unbalanced look. This area had ringing music notes, a track to run little cars/balls down, a crawling tube, a spinning giant glass marble, on top of the slides, climbing ladders, etc. Plus, there was a dedicated little kids swing set, with two toddler swings, two regular swings, and then the much loved yet hard to find toddler/parent combo swing!!! The big kids side includes a four seat seesaw, an accessible swaying "boat", multiple climbing walls, a standing gravity spinner, five slides, "concessions stand", a dedicated big kids swing set with accessible swing, and more. All of this included old shade trees, overlooked the diamond, and was a short walk from the bathrooms. Kudos to West Allis for installing a truly great and unique playground.

Lots of stuff to do in the warmer months and all for free. I think they also just installed new lighting in the park as well. This park is always well kept and very clean. This is perhaps one of the oldest parks in the city and was given to the city by George Walker (no…read morerelation to George Walker Bush and family), one of the Founding Fathers of Milwaukee as what was to be the centerpiece of his settlement (imagine the area before 1-94). This park has seen better days to be sure, but has changed with the times to offer a wading pool for kids with ample benches for parents, and a new (2013) playground for kids. The comfort station needs work, and I am saddened to see that the fountain was removed in the late 20th century. The park hosts a farmer's market most of the warm season (several days a week) and many of the vendors are Hmong families offering Latin, and old style Midwestern veggies as well as some Asian exotics as well. This is a great place to bring kids if you need a break! The wading pool, and new playground are truly amazing for the babies on board set. I wish it had more benches not attached to the play pond for kids since it is sometimes hard to come here and have a nice lunch on the 1 or 2 benches. I love that it is still very much a square on the West and South Sides of the park where 19th century homes (some in great shape, and some needing work) circle the park. As one of the oldest parks in the city/county, and one of the few given to the people of Milwaukee by a founding father I feel this park should see investment due to its historical importance. Still, it is a great place for a midday picnic (bring your own blanket).

Two problems are that the school takes up all the public parking around the park on school days into the evening, and in the morning and the afternoon the parent traffic chokes the immediate vicinity. A second weakness are these strange non-functional exercise machines in a poor state of disrepair, quite the eyesore.
