Her office is cozy and calming, without the buzz of a reception desk. Cady, Dr. Lindner's therapy dog frequents the office, she is the sweetest. The one-on-one attention is wonderful and unmatched. From the time I sit down in her office I feel like she is engaged in everything I say and really hears me. She is thoughtful and kind. Dr. Lindner's education shines through when offering suggestions to my various issues. She is very insightful. When I leave her office I feel more educated about myself, and my issue(s). The office is in an older building and is located on the second floor. The ladies at check-in were nice and helpful - I got there around 15 minutes early to fill out my paperwork. Not even 5 minutes later they called me back to a room. The nurse came promptly to do the standard checks - weight, height, etcetera. She was very personable and I enjoyed our conversation. Once she left the doctor came a few minutes later. We realized that I needed a tetanus shot in addition to the physical and I opted just to do it that day. Even the lady doing my shot was quick - it happened in under 10 minutes. I was so surprised - talk about the fastest doctors appointment ever! They also helped me sign up for MyChart so I could see my results from my biometric screening digitally. No complaints from my visit here! I'm glad that finding a new physician that I like was so easy :)

I first started seeing her when I had a real job with my own insurance and she has taken care of colds as well as the female stuff. I am the kind of person that wants my doctor to be no-nonsense and just cut to the chase with me - I've had a lot of serious health issues and I just don't want to sugar coat things. She knows this and gets right to it without any touchy-feely stuff, but I get the sense that she is totally compassionate and sensitive to patients who need that experience. I've never felt that she is cold, just professional, in other words! The only thing I wish that was better was trying to get a prescription for medication now and then - I went in for migraines a long time back and instead of a prescription, I had to keep a food diary - coming back six months later I just asked for the medication my friend let me try and got the script, but I was suffering that whole time. And every year when I have a cold, everyone else can get the Z-Pack but I have to let the thing run its course. I get that it is really for my own good not to take too many antibiotics, but try telling that to me when I am miserable and working 10 hour days!! A small price to pay for her wonderful and fast care! (And I especially love that she will call personally and leave test results on your voicemail if you authorize it!)

Last year I (like many Americans) went through an extended period of unemployment and no health insurance. I couldn't see her for awhile. When I became gainfully employed and fully insured again (yay!) the first thing I did was looked her up in the "book" for the HMO insurance plan I selected to make sure she could remain my PCP. Keep in mind, again, that she's already been my physician for going on 10 years. I was so loyal to her that, if she hadn't been listed in the plan I selected, I was prepared to choose another one where she was. I was pleased that Dr. Phan was listed in the plan I selected, and I called her office right away to make an appointment and get re-established. I arrive a week later or so for my appointment only to be told that Dr. Phan would not see me because she was not part of my insurance plan. Huh? But she's listed in my plan, I protested -- in the book and on the website. And furthermore, why didn't I receive a call telling me this before I actually came to the office. Dr. Phan's front-desk "gatekeeper" claimed that they've been trying to have her removed from my plan's "book" for several years. I, frankly, don't believe that. Not only is she listed in the book, she's listed on the website. It cannot be THAT difficult to remove. And further, I was asked the specifics of my insurance plan was when I made the appointment -- if Dr. Phan wasn't part of it, why not tell me then? Although I've had the same cell number for 6 of the almost 10 years that Dr. Phan was my PCP, and that number is listed as my primary number, her office called my home landline about an hour before the appointment to "cancel" it. How many people listen to their landline voicemail with any frequency? And why the office never called my cell number remains a mystery. I asked if Dr. Phan would see me anyway -- again, I hadn't been to the doctor in at least 9 mos. and I figured, after all of our history together, we could find a way to sort it out. No such luck. Front desk chick told me "Sorry, bye." So that's that. Never got any kind of follow up phone call or anything from Dr. Phan or her office. I felt silly for thinking that having had a longstanding history with her meant something. In the end, it did not. It's all about the "plan" and the profits.

Dr. Royston has been my doctor for 18 years, and I very highly recommend her. She is excellent…read morewhen it comes to any diagnosis but especially anything sinus or ear, nose, and throat related. I used to have ongoing sinus infections or chest congestion after colds I couldn't shake, and she always took it seriously and had quick and helpful remedies. In my past experience, most doctors shrugged those symptoms off or were at a loss for solutions. She is also great for preventive care. I recommended her to a coworker. Upon seeing her for just a routine visit, Dr. Royston immediately noticed a troubling skin lesion and correctly diagnosed my coworker with skin cancer. With me, I always feel like she is on the case looking to prevent future issues: getting my oversized thyroid checked out for possible cancer, listening to my complaints about swollen hands and getting me tested for rheumatoid arthritis, checking to make sure I am scheduled for a colonoscopy given my age. She delves into family medical history, and she asks about my exercise routine (or lack of). I just had my annual physical with her and came in with 8 written questions, thinking she would never have the time for all of them. It is Northwestern, and regardless of which department you are seeing, at some point you may feel like it's a bit of a factory pushing people in and out. But she had time for all 8 questions, and I'm glad I asked. Some of her answers were surprising and in a good way. The office is also very efficient. I've never had to wait to get in. I actually got there early last time, and Dr. Royston saw me right away. Even though it is downtown, the practice feels like a family practice. I noticed I've been seeing the same nurse there for over 10 years. The nurses have given me good tips, like after a flu shot, and I've never had a painful blood draw in their labs. I can't recommend this practice highly enough. There may be a time or two when you feel like things are going quickly, but then just let the nurse or Dr. Royston know you have more questions. They will listen.

They were surprised I got billed because things weren't sorted, however, they did say I got billed for two visits on the same day. I thought that was a mistake, called Dr. Roystons office and they were like, if you had ANY complaints, that would fall into a second visit. I said, no, I literally had no complaints. Last year I had a problem with my neck, so maybe she just pulled over last years billing? Nope, she billed me for conditions she's not even managing. In my notes, it literally says managed by other physicians. I went in to speak with Chris Fuqua, he said he couldn't do anything, but because she put those diagnosis in, it's a separate visit. I was like, so I'm not suppose to inform her of my conditions other doctors are managing? Isn't that important for your PCP to know your health HISTORY? He basically was like, I cannot say anything. His silence spoke volumes. Not to mention, I was telling Dr. Royston during my visit that I would prefer vitamin B12 shots over her recommended vitamin B12 pills because I struggle with taking them and she was like... no. I was like, why? She said, the pills work, if it didn't work, then you can do a shot. I spoke to someone and they were like, you can go to minute clinic and it cost less to get a B12 shot then go through insurance anyway. She was dismissive and she's billing for conditions she literally is not treating. Just beware.... You will get charged for your medical HISTORY when speaking with her.

We had both come in for asthma issues, but Dr. Betman immediately recognized that my coworker wasn't experiencing asthma complications at all -- she was actually having a heart attack. My coworker didn't believe it, but Dr. Betman guided her to the ER, where they confirmed it was a heart attack. My coworker told me this story, and we both agree: Dr. Betman is the kind of life-changing doctor you want in your corner for life. A few other things I appreciate: she takes many insurance plans, is a women's health expert, teaches at Northwestern University, and refers out to excellent specialists (who also work with a wide range of insurance). Unlike most doctors, she takes the time to answer every question and treats every concern seriously. Over the years she genuinely gets to know you and cares about you -- almost like the small-town doctor you'd see in a movie. The busy office staff is perfunctory... they're not going to win awards for being "nice," as other reviewers have mentioned. But if you need treatment for serious medical issues, they are extremely competent -- which, in the end, is what matters most.
