A hidden gem. A little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. Built on an old quarry, this…read morecourse has an amazing set of diverse golf holes. Elevated tee boxes, elevated greens, dog legs and just enough hazard to make you consider club selection a little more than usual. I have only played from the red and white tee boxes and find it challenging for my level of ability. I'm sure the black and gold tee boxes will provide enough challenge for the "heavy hitters". Fairways and greens are in good condition, but the cart paths are in some disrepair and jar the teeth at times. I have only played it on the weekdays and have never found it crowded. It is a family owned course and the staff is extremely friendly. I travel extensively throughout the USA and this courses layout and condition for the reasonable price is one of my favorites.

Surprisingly the course was mostly playable. Look beyond the wetness - The fairways and greens were in very good shape. Much better than Ol' Colony in Tuscaloosa! The layout was fair and somewhat challenging. The clubhouse leaves a lot to be desired, but we were there for golf. The staff was friendly and the price is ridiculously affordable! We likely will be back when traveling through this area. Give it a try.

It's very remote, but worth the drive. The restaurant is built and decorated in a lodge style. We had a table directly in front of the fireplace. Our server was excellent. She knew the menu well, memorized everyone's order, and checked on us continually throughout the meal. They had a very good (and pricey) wine list. I had a Riesling, but it was ordered for us, so I don't know the specifics. The menu is a bit limited. I started with a Hal Caesar salad. It was just the right amount of salad and dressing, and was very good. For dinner, I wanted the scallops, but not with caviar that it comes with. I would have liked the trout, but it's not Rainbow or other white flaky varieties. It's Steelhead, which pink and dense like salmon, so I settled on the paradelle with wild boar ragu. It was tasty in a brown, but spicy, sauce. The meat was tender, and the noodles were excellent. They tasted homemade. We finished by sharing their desserts. I particularly enjoyed the cheesecake.

Thirty days after closing, they told me I owed over $50,000 for golf membership, HOAs, and water/sewer (yes, for an empty lot). When I said I did not yet want a membership, they threatened to sue me and said they are going to add all their fees plus interest and to foreclose on my property, and they barred me from reselling it. AVOID BUYING IN MCLEMORE. it is a scam.
