My car decided to become a cloud of smoke late on a Friday night right in front of Goodyear. I left my car and called first thing the next day to explain. They were very understanding and had no issues with the surprise, even on what I assume is their busiest day. They quickly diagnosed the problem and called to provide a quote, which I found reasonable. They finished the work faster than I expected and were very friendly at pick-up. I went there for an oil change after I had a coupon for $19.99. I made an appointment for 9, they estimated that it would only take 45 minutes max. It took 15 minutes for them just to pull my car into the garage (mind you the garage had open spots). I waited until 10:15 to ask when my car would be ready, the guy (Peter) could only tell me shortly and quickly walked away. I told him I needed to leave soon. By 10:30 (an hour and a half later) my car was done and I checked out. The place seemed annoyed that I was standing around and when I spoke up and called them on the wrong estimation. The whole thing took double the amount of time estimated to save only $10, not worth it in my opinion. Next time I will pay the extra money and have it done in 10-15 minutes by valvoline!!! Do not go here! I called Goodyear yesterday morning and made an appointment that evening to have a leak caused by a nail lodged in my tire patched. I was assured over the phone it could be done over night. I brought my car in at 5:10 (they close at 6) and asked if it would make more sense for the spare tire to be put on in place of the damaged tire, leaving them with the tire in need of patching instead of my entire car. I was told that: a) They could not guarantee the work would be completed in the initial time frame quoted (9 am the following day, they open at 7 am) b) There was "no one there" to swap out the damaged tire with the spare c) That it was "not their problem" to provide me with any services It's worth noting that at the time I arrived, it was about an hour before their closing time, and there were at least 3 people in the shop, which has 4 docks. Only one of the docks was in use when I brought my car in. The man I dealt with was incredibly rude, condescending and dismissive. I walked up to the counter and even after greeting him, he walked off and I had to practically follow him out of the office to even get him to acknowledge me. I did everything I could to facilitate an easy exchange over a simple problem by making an appointment in advance, etc. I will NOT be giving them any business ever again. I live a few blocks away, and popped into a gas station on School St. on my way home. I told them the issue, and even though they were closing (it was 530), a mechanic offered to help me out anyway. They fixed the leak in less than 10 minutes, and were friendly and respectful. That's the difference between GOOD and BAD service; and Goodyear in Union definitely falls into the latter category. read more

I was just here today to get a new tire after mine popped, and I was so impressed by how pleasant of an experience it was. They took me in on very short notice and changed my tire in 20 minutes, maybe less! While the guy who handled my transaction recommended insurance (good idea, really, just not in my budget) and asked if I wanted more than one tire, he wasn't pushy at all. After a rough day, I really appreciated being treated so well. Yep, it's a chain, but so what? I'll recommend this Goodyear to absolutely anyone. read more

After reading some of the reviews, I had a funny feeling that something about this wouldn't work out as expected. I made an appointment online for 6pm the next day. After driving for about an hour to get there, no record of my appointment! I even showed them my email confirmation of the appointment - nope, nada. The one woman who was available to do work I was told was not capable of putting new tires on. Isn't that what you specialize in?!? Instead, I was offered to leave the car and they could work on it tomorrow, at which time I could go pick it back up, or I could bring it back tomorrow and wait. No thanks. Happy about this, but aggravated about the way it was handled given the fact that I bought TWO new tires from this company 20 days ago (one that already needed replacing) and was still given the run around. I'll admit: I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews for this place. While apparently YMMV (har har), I've had nothing but good experiences at this shop. The people who work here are knowledgeable, always nice to me, and--most important--they stand behind their work. Example: Over the weekend, I had this shop install four new rims that I'd purchased online from TireRack. (Apparently I'd hit one Somerville pothole too many, & the dented rim was causing some really annoying vibrations even after it had been rotated to the back.) The Goodyear guys told me to put ~30 miles on and come back for retorquing, which I did two days later. That night, my tire pressure alarm went off--my initial thought was that it must be something wrong with one of the sensors, since I'd had all four transferred from my old rims rather than purchase new ones. It turned out, however, that one of my tires was legitimately half-flat, & it only took ~8 hours for the tire to re-flatten after I put air in it. So I brought the car back this morning to have the guys take a look, since I have the three-year warranty on the two tires that I purchased here back in the spring (& was crossing my fingers that the problem tire was an insured tire). It ended up being that the problem wasn't the tire itself, though, but something with the seal from where they'd transferred the sensor. I can think of more than one shop my car has been to in its lifetime where they'd have attempted to charge me for the additional work, but all Goodyear wanted from me was a signature--no hassle, no negotiation, perfectly pleasant. Car was fixed in about two hours & is now ready to roadtrip. I should note that I've never used their online booking system; I call ahead and talk to them or just drop by first thing in the morning (they open at 7, & were still nice and quiet when I got there today at 8). I also live within walking distance and so never really care about pickup time, though I'm frequently surprised by how fast they can get stuff done. (If you don't live nearby, try passing your time with amazing breakfast at The Neighborhood or reading outside on the patio at Bloc 11.) And while I probably haven't met everyone who works here, I can say that Ty, John, & that dude who looks just like my friend Peter (I know, that's really helpful for you) have all been great. I'll be bringing my car here for wheel stuff and basic maintenance for the foreseeable future. read more

Brought the car in today because we had a screw in one tire and a slow leak in another one. The slow leak they were able to fix quickly and cheaply. The screw was on the side of the tire so there was no way to patch it unfortunately. Dick brought me out a paper with the exact brand and size tire I needed so I could start calling around for it (4WD car, needed the exact tire and fast so I could hit the road the next day). I found a place that could get me in the next morning, but while I was doing that Dick found a place closer that could do it that night. He used to work with the guy so he told them we were on the way, and they were waiting when we got there. Got the tire fixed that night for a reasonable price, all thanks to Dick and his connections. Any place that will call around so you get what you need at another place is a place I will go back to. read more

The two helpful guys working ended up letting me know I actually needed a tire sealed and a new tire and did the work right there on the spot because they didn't want me driving on what I had. yesterday i had my 3rd (out of 3) exceptional experience at the somerville goodyear auto service center. my air conditioning wasn't working, and i was pretty sure it needed a recharge. i called them at 7 am, they said i could bring the car in that day. they told me exactly what they would do and how much it would likely cost up front. the work was successfully done by 4 PM that day, and i was even able to use a coupon. sign up for their emails, by the way, and don't even worry about printing off the coupon if you can show them the email on your phone! each time i visit this shop, i've felt that i have been given honest information and not told that i need expensive and/or unnecessary repairs. they've even done some evaluations for free (the typical breaks, etc.) and reported that maintenance work wouldn't be needed for quite a while. they also don't treat me like some automotive ignoramus--which i most certainly am--and i never worry that they'll bully me into work my car doesn't need. read more

I went here on Saturday to get a flat fixed. I had purchased insurance on the tires a year ago when I got them (always a good investment) but I had bought them out of state. The guy was upfront about the wait (a couple hours) when I called and when I got there - I expected it since it was Saturday morning so I settled in with my book and IPod After about 30 minutes he calls me up and says the tire cannot be repaired - this is what you expect with tire insurance - we can't cover it because of yada yada....but no, they were going to give me a new tire for free. huh what?? I realize this is probably more of Good Year policy than this particular place but they didn't try to sell me one more thing - no wheel balancing, air filter or anything! Unfortunately they didn't have the tire in stock so I set up an appt for Monday. I get home and about an hour later he calls me and tells me they are getting the tire delivered that afternoon - I can come back today or still come on Monday. I end up going back and getting the tire replaced (still had to wait but again they were upfront about that). Walked out of there for nothing but a new tire. Is that even possible? Also - I gave them my email and they sent me a coupon for 10% off tires and 20% off any service valid for 4 months. read more

Bought a car battery here about a year ago. A week ago I went away on vacation, leaving my headlights on. That's the kind of thing that destroys a battery and, sure enough, it destroyed this one - my fault entirely. After AAA jump started me, I brought the car back to them and they said that, yes, the battery was testing as very weak. Then they replaced it under warrantee - no cost - no penalty. I bought new tires from Goodyear and was given info stating that with the purchase of new tires they offer a complimentary tire rotation every 6 months. When I called this location the person on the phone told me to go to the location that I bought them (which isn't near me any more) and was very reluctant to allow me to come in to get this service done. I double checked their policy and it states that you can go to any location to get this service done. I went somewhere else (Sullivan tire) who does service for Goodyear and they were much nicer, so in the future I will go there instead. read more

I was charged 329 dollars for a service that was not done. After picking my car up and driving home, my car sounded exactly the same. I called the store back and was given a clear excuse "that's probably just the bouncing of the tires". I went to another mechanic and took pictures. My car was never touched and it was clear that Nick the salesman at Goodyear was trying to take advantage of a customer. I am a young female but this location probably wants s to take advantage of anyone they can. I returned to the Goodyear in Somerville and asked for a refund, but with that came a full argument from the salesman on how the car was in fact worked on. Wasted a lot of time and energy. I had a horrible experience here. I went in to get my oil changed. I made an appointment online also, and no record of the appointment being made had been made. Then, I used one of the coupons they had on their website to get free tire rotation along with the oil change. I use synthetic oil and it is higher priced, which I understand, but then I was told that I would have to pay for another quart of oil because most cars take five and mine apparently takes 6. Still fine. However, then I was still charged for labor on the actual oil change and also "reduced' labor charge for the tire roatation. I should have said no because I get free tire rotation from where I bought them from originally (labor free also). This was the most I have ever paid for an oil change EVER even though I ALWAYS put synthetic oil in my car. Then, I was given an estimate to replace my rear wheel bearings. The parts cost $100 but labor is $600.... I have no idea how. Then apparently as soon as I got my car back, my right window (which originally had shown no signs of the motor slowing down) rolled down and would not go back up AS SOON as I left here. I do not know if that is coincidental but I am never going back here. Super disappointed. read more

Just to report my recent experience: My wife went for an inspection of her car. The mechanic told her that she had the original timing belt. He said he could tell this by the "grease." He said you need to do this now. Thank God she didn't. We went to our long time Goodyear service station, and they looked up the records and told us we still had another 40,000 miles to go and it was not the original timing belt. At first, I was happy to see a tire shop open on Sunday in the neighborhood. I brought my car there. Once I parked the car, I was told that the manager/the person at the front desk went out for the errands and won't be back for 10-15min. I was waiting at the office for a while. When the manager came back, I told him that I had a flat tire in my trunk and like to know that if it can be repaired because all tires were new and (from other shop) just 5 months old. The manager first replied me that he will see if the tire can be repaired, if not I will need to buy a new tire from the Goodyear shop. While we were walking towards my car, I replied him that if I need a new tire, I will probably have to bring back to my tire store for replacement instead. Then he took a brief look of the tire from the trunk without taking the tire out, he quickly told me that my tire cannot be repaired because of the damage is from the side. So i went to my tire store next day, and the shop just simply repaired/patched the tire because it's punctured by a nail. It's a very simple fix and completed within 10-15min. My experience tells me 1) The front desk person (manager) from the goodyear at somerville did not even want to have a mechanic to inspect the damaged tire. He did not take the tire out to do the full inspection, then already told me the tire cannot be repaired; 2) perhaps he knows that I won't be buying a new tire from the shop, so it's not worth for him to do business with me. It's questionable how they do business there, it's very likely if I agree to buy a new tire from the shop, I would have told my tire cannot be repaired and i just have to pay for a new tire. read more

I just moved my car across the country. I had my family mechanic check it out before I left. All I needed to do when I got to boston was get an oil change. I made an appointment with Goodyear and also asked them to take a look at my cigarette lighter as the fuse just went out. They said they would. 20 mins in they came out with $400 worth of things they could fix. I said no, those repairs had been made less than a month prior. He came back 10 mins later saying I was all finished and they didn't have time to check my cigarette lighter. He said I had to wait 3 hours to get that done. I said " you had time to quote my perfectly fine breaks and sparks but don't have 5 mins to look at my fuse" he said no. My dad taught me all about mechanics growing up. I know more about cars than your average girl. It disgusts me that I come to your place with a certain agenda and you try to sell me $400 of bs and won't fix what is actually wrong with my car. I will never come back here. I hope everyone that reads this will also trust my opinion. read more

I bought a new Goodyear Assurance tire and installed at this shop for my Honda Civic (August 2015). Despite my reservation about the price I decided to go ahead and paid over 170$ for one tire as I was moving out of the state next morning and wanted to be sure I had replaced my one damaged tire before the trip. Well, 5 miles into the trip, my TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) went off. I understand sometime it requires running of few miles after new tire installation. Long story short, the warning light is still on after two days. Checked all tire pressure and all within normal limit. Now the Honda service center who checked my car mentioned that the TPMS sensor and the valve is not mounted correctly. And this further will require a new "O" ring and/or compression ring to seal the sensor properly. Which means I have shell out more dollars. I confirmed this with two other repair shops. Long story short, the machanics at this shop does not know a lick about tire lock removal and installing properly. To think that selling tire is their bread and butter. Stay away from this store, if you love your car. read more

I walk-in this guy probably in his fifties thin with a ball cap on no name tag approach me I told him I have a fleet vehicle and I have my oil changed every 3 weeks.. as soon as he heard the word Fleet the first thing he says to me with a smirk on his face next week I'll do it next week can't do anything for you this week I said excuse me I can't do anything for you I said alright. you mean Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday you can't do an oil change..Well do you have an appointment I said I've been coming here for my last four oil changes and I've never called for an appointment well then I can't do it for you till next week I said no problem I'll have the dealer do it he finished with a Mumble and turned and walked back to the service area.. I'll never go back there again just because he doesn't want to handle a fleet vehicle..For you folks that don't know what a fleet vehicle is it is a vehicle that is basically billed instead of charged at that moment company or leased.. sometimes it takes a phone call and some extra paperwork and I guess that's a little too much for him to handle.. I'm going to go to the dealer it doesn't cost me a dime and I'll rather pay the extra $20 then give it to them read more

Friendly and professional service. I purchased 5 tires that had to be special ordered due to sizing and they were happy to pricematch to tirerack-they actually wen't slightly cheaper because I bought a 5th tire for my spare. Additionally they did not try to up-sell me on anything and brought to my attention my brake pads which they showed me (they looked bad) so I had them replaced. I also had them perform an alignment-that they gave me a discount on as well. The project took a little over 2 hours (tires, brakes, oil change, alignment) which is very reasonable in my opinion. Another plus is that they provide free rotations for the life of the tires-that is a big savings. I highly recommend Goodyear in Somerville and will absolutely take my cars there in the future for tires. The only thing I can recommend is that they give the tires/wheels a nice finish at the end of installation...but that's about it. read more

Peter was excellent in helping me pick a tire and honored my appointment time. I called Sunday afternoon to get a Monday 4:30 appointment when no other places could take me that soon. It took about an hour to get all four tires changed - amazing!! I waited there because they have comfy chairs and great wifi. Great experience this weekend. Friday afternoon I discovered a sidewall bubble (delaminating) on one of my Honda Fit's tires. They didn't have replacement in stock - would have taken a few days as special order, but one of the staff called around, found one at a nearby warehouse, picked up and brought in for me Saturday AM. When driving up to MA for Thanksgiving we got a flat (on a tire that I had just bought a month prior no less). We almost had a flat on our spare as well, but thankfully we made it to our b&b in Somerville. I was incredibly frustrated and annoyed to say the least since nothing was open on Thanksgiving and we had to cancel our plans. We got up early on Black Friday and went to the Goodyear and at first I think they pegged us as "city folks" who were going to give them a hard time. However, when the realized we just wanted to get the tire fixed and were not going to give them any trouble they softened considerably. They told us where we could grab breakfast (the Neighborhood cafe up the street is amazing and had such great service) and having a new tire put on and a wheel alignment took about an hour. The guy who changed my tire even put my doughnut tire back in its place (even though my trunk it filled with camping stuff and I know that must have been a pain). All and all, Goodyear has earned my business and I probably won't buy tires anywhere else. read more

Don't go here ever! They are rude and very unprofessional. I booked an appointment to purchase 4 new tires and have them placed on my car.One would think that buying tires from good year tire would be a simple task. However, this certainlly wasnt the case. I arrived to my appointment and again asked to purchase 4 new tires for my car. I reviewed my bill and asked the gentleman if that included the price of my 4 new tires and labor he replied "yes." I even made a joke about how cheap the tires were. One hour and half later they called me and asked me where my tires were. I really thought they were joking. After they messed up and wasted my only day off they didnt offer any compensation or even an apology I hope this place goes out of buisness. read more
