Goodwill is always a bit of a gamble, you never know if you'll leave with nothing or a cart full of things you didn't know you needed. This trip paid off with some artwork that was basically screaming, "make me spooky!" Perfect for repurposing into Halloween décor, and honestly that kind of creative find is why I keep coming back. The store itself is organized enough that you can navigate without losing your sense of direction, but still has that "hunt for it" vibe that makes thrifting fun. Prices are usually fair, and every once in a while you stumble across that hidden treasure that makes you feel like you've won the thrift-store lottery. Not every trip is a jackpot, but that's part of the charm. This time the win went to spooky artwork. Four stars because Goodwill is consistently a solid thrifting stop, and the thrill of the hunt never gets old.

Less than 36 hours later we found a mass onm the kittys jaw line. I tried calling the number on the adoption paperwork but of course it was no good, I called to talk to the woman at petco who told me I had to take kitty to their vet in scottsdale and the only contact was through email. And accused me of not paying the adoption fee and told me I had to come to petco and pay it..Nope..not putting my banking information in your phone. I checked paypal and they hadn't accepted the payment I made, so When given the correct information I resubmitted the payment immediately and PayPal verified that it has been accepted. I have emails spanning 5 days of Dawn Cavanaugh claiming kitty is healthy , even after she was diagnosed with Stomatosis and the vet recommended a biopsy of the mass on her jawline and FIV/Feline Leukemia testing. I made very clear throughout the email communications that I expected my monies refunded as the kitty is not healthy and of course when we returned her to the rescue I was accused of not paying the adoption fee and dishonesty. And I'm not getting a refund. I am communicating with Petco Cares and Paypal about this but beware !!

We adopted our first from them about 5 years ago and have adopted quite a few more since then. Everyone with the rescue has always been super helpful about matching us with the cat that is the right fit for our family and they have always been super responsive about getting back to us about any follow up questions we have had such as how to integrate a high energy Bengal kitten into our family of mellow older cats. Our fur babies are happy and healthy and All About Animals has become our rescue of choice each time we decide to expand our 4 legged family.

We unlock futures so that youth in trouble do not become adults in trouble." Phoenix Youth At Risk is a non profit mentoring organization founded in 1987 to help at-risk youth of the greater Phoenix area redirect their lives with the help of adult volunteer mentors. The goal is to help kids and teenagers recognize and expound upon their potential as outstanding citizens. They have two programs. The New Pathways Mentoring Program is a 9-month program consisting of one-on-one and group mentoring for teenagers who may otherwise fall through the cracks. The Positive Adult Leaders in Society (P.A.L.S) program matches youth ages 5-15 who are in homeless transitional housing with adult mentors for at least one year. Having never mentored in my life, the thought of helping a child was intriguing and scary all at the same time. I decided to jump on board with Phoenix Youth at Risk nearly 2 years ago and was immediately paired with a wonderfully gifted teenage girl. The P.A.L.S program asks that you be able to commit at least one hour a week to taking your youth out for at least one year. You could simply take them out to lunch, out bowling, to a museum, to your home, or the like. You become a positive influence in their life through just being you. It's an incredibly simple premise, yet one that can leave a lasting impression for years to come, for both mentor and mentee! Joining this organization was one of the best decisions I've ever made. There's no greater joy than helping a child see their full potential and I can say that the joy my youth gives me is the same, if not greater than the joy I give her. If you want to make a lasting impression in a child's life, please consider Phoenix Youth at Risk as a valuable life changing experience for both you and your youth! They are ALWAYS in need of volunteers, but especially adult males willing to mentor boys!!

However, during the interview process I was a little disappointed. I felt that some of the questions were inappropriate and it made me feel uncomfortable answering them. I don't think that anyone should be asked about their sexual orientation or if they had experienced any abuse in their lives. I realize that this is a nonprofit organization working with at-risk youth, but I felt like this organization delved a little too deep into a potential volunteers personal history. I think their initial screening and some of their requirements limit the amount of volunteers that they get. Unfortunately, this effects the amount of mentors available for the children in the program. The interview felt more like a very intensive and revealing job interview more than a volunteer interview. In addition, I felt a bit judged by the interviewer when I answered some of the questions. I left the building thinking my time would probably be better spent someplace else.

I was a little disappointed that I had to wait over an hour to get 3 bags for a member. A minister came in a hour after me and was greeted with the up most helpe and joy. To my understanding members have been held to be totally reliant on the organization although the supports are good but make sure you are providing independence and encouraging it. I'm here giving a review on behalf of a sister in Christ who was failed by the system and is…read moregetting nothing better from what she's relaying to me. She grew up in homeless shelters and group homes from all over Arizona since she was about 7 years old. Her mental health was incredibly damaged and she was unable to finish school due to learning disabilities. From being forced to one home to the next and never receiving even an ounce of love and affection the way Christ would to the point where she landed in what I believe was a cult. This is where I met her. We got out together and began to seek Christ further together and she has been growing slowly and understanding more. She struggles sometimes and makes mistakes and doesn't understand sometimes. But in the time of her being at the dream center--she's worsened. Her faith has decreased and her mental health has as well. I've also discovered that some donations are meant to go to the women there but she has yet to receive anything or any help at all with finding work, re-applying for school, relearning basic life skills, and recovering in full. It became bad when she felt the need to sneak her phone back to reach me rather than use the phones so she can open up--to which, of course, I corrected her one as her sister in Christ. It's ever right to do things like that no matter the circumstance. But doing that led to her being placed outside in the dark alone with her phone on low battery and strange men passing by and making her uncomfortable for nearly 2 hours. When asked if she could come back inside and give back her phone so she can go to bed and feel safer, she was told to wait out there until 7 am. While outside, she was tempted to wander off alone away from the center even with the men giving her creepy looks and peeking around corners at her. The staff stood by and looked out at her and continued to talk as she stood at the door until she knocked to be met with another "7 am." This is what began to boil my blood. I hadn't heard of the place before but when I looked it up I was shocked to find that they're centered around rescuing women off the streets and preventing trafficking and providing care for those they welcome in. But to hear that they willingly put out a struggling 18-year-old with depression and a dwindling faith as a Christ-centered community and home for young women--it strikes a different cord. Upon getting there, I found out that she discovered some...odd conditions. Such as bugs and mold. But none of that truly matters because it's a roof over her head and clothes on her back as well as food for your belly. And I encourage her to be grateful for the things that God places in front of us. But it's hard to encourage her if she cant call me even from the phones there due to restrictions let alone be able to feel confident that she is in good Christ-loving hands. I just continue to pray that God guides her steps and places a hedge of protection over her. I may only have one side of things but the things I'm hearing don't settle well in my stomach or my heart...I pray that those in the center are able to express more compassion towards the people they bring in. Especially young women who don't have many people to depend on outside of Christ...God will provide. God bless you and I hope that things improve with this place. Im still gonna continue to raise money for her to get her back on track, God willing.
