Place is absolutely ridiculous. I clearly have a recipe showing I can exchange in Southern California but they just saying kept saying that because it wasn't bought in SD "county" I can not. Guess there are different goodwills. They definitely need to specify that!!!! Instead of wasting people's time.

This review is solely in regards to their books. What an amazing find! The right half of the store is dedicated to book! It looks like it's own mini book store. Not your typical goodwill selection. The books are categorized; mystery, self help, history, fiction, cooking, kids, best sellers, science fiction. And get this, there's actual good books there in excellent condition and for a minimal fee. Absolute gem of a spot and can't believe it took me so long to discover it!

Donations are around the back from the main entrance

Three stars for now since I haven't been in the store and I can't comment on that...but I can comment on the donation area. Being such a bleeding heart, I love donating things. Everyone needs something, give back, help others..blahblahblah..all that jazz. :) When Goodwill finally opened closer to my home (and I drive past it several times a week!) than the Escondido location, I was ecstatic. Thus, 'Operation Donation' began. The donation area is in the back with a very easy drive up area. You ring the bell, someone happily comes out, helps you with your ridiculously large amount of donations, smiles, hands you a receipt for tax purposes and you're on your way.

This place is nice and clean. Donating is easy too. I just drive to the back and drop off.

This place is incredibly clean and organized. It looks more like a boutique than a Goodwill store. The selection of books is amazing!

My first time here I purchased a few children's books and a 300 piece puzzle. This summer, my youngest son has fallen in love with large puzzles. I never pay full price for kid things. Why? They lose interest in them so quickly! I really didn't want to pay almost 20 dollars for a puzzle on Amazon....and then I remembered this bookstore. I called to make sure they still had a puzzle section and they sure do! They have such a lovely variety too! I'm sure you'll find something you like. My kiddo was thrilled when I let him pick two puzzles and I picked one. You can't beat the prices....and they offer an credit policy too! Three puzzles cost me less than one puzzle at a big box store or online. Stop in here and support local business. I'll be back!

For a book whose spine is parting? Missing pages? C'mon. Don't even bother looking at most of what they call "Vintage" books. They ask a king's ransom for them. I found paperback after paperback that was priced at over $20 each... for a book barely 50 years old and a cover price of $1.50. Outlandish. I actually performed a reality check and went to Ebay to check on 7 or 8 of those titles. In each case the books sold for much less on Ebay than Helen is asking. They most definitely need to adjust their pricing schema. It's not like they're paying rent in downtown La Jolla for goodness sake. I was originally, upon walking in, going to say their large, diverse selection is a strength. Now I understand it's simply a function of them not selling their books at a good turnover rate at all... consequently, their stock piles up. Shame.

Anyway, we had planned a weekend trip to Carlsbad and searched for used bookstores in the area and Farenheit came up. So glad we stopped in and were able to walk out with a few books. Many vintage finds for all you collectors. Look closely and carefully as there are so many nooks and crannies in the shop where hidden gems can be found. If you and anyone know of a space in Carlsbad Village, please contact the store owner Philip. He and this community deserve to have a bookstore. We are never too old or too young to learn. Grab a book and enjoy a good read! Lookout for the bargain books! And I loved the music played during our shopping experience, French jazz, which set the mood for our lunch in a local French cafe. This is a small shop but they've probably got something that will catch your interest. I bought a fat history book (no, not a book about the history of fatties, come on, now) for 1/3rd the normal price. And it is in perfect condition. I also appreciated the notes throughout the store encouraging the reading of banned books. Seems an appropriate message given the name of the bookshop. Plenty of free street parking in the area.
