One of my latest projects is trying to go and collect all the books on one of my favorite book series- and before I start plumbing the depths of the abysses known as Amazon and eBay, I always make it a point to hit up the area thrift stores for books and bargains, and the local smattering of Goodwills are always one of my first stops. It's clean, and there's not a lot of stuff really cluttering up the aisles, which is a really good thing- I admit to being one of the people most likely to fall over random junk in the aisles, so being able to move about the store is a great thing. There's also lots of space, and you never really feel like you're going to accidentally slam the cart into the shelves. On the other hand, though... if you're looking for something absolutely specific, this really isn't the place for you. Goodwill's inventory changes every single day, and if you're not the first one there to dig through the new finds as they get tossed up onto the shelves, then you're just going to be out of luck- as is what happened to me. I couldn't find a single book, but we did find a nice coat that was a pretty nice buy for a family member who needed one! If you're just out hunting for bargains, then this might be a good place to just take your time and rummage through the stuff on the shelves, and lots of what they have is pretty decent quality- the clothes on display were all clean and looked pretty good, but the books were unsorted, and not really in any semblance of subset- sci-fi, fantasy, modern day- you had to go shelf by shelf to see if there was anything there to buy. At least they split the books into hardcover/softcover... My only other complaint here is that the books go all the way down to the ground- how is someone who can't bend over or is in a wheelchair supposed to be able to look at all the books, or even reach them without help? It might help if they had some bigger shelves for them so people didn't have to get down and lean over to see just what was in stock, and it might also help if they managed to sort everything by genre, too. In the end, all I can really give this place is a three out of five. It's a thrift store, nothing more, nothing less. You'll have a hard time finding something specific, but if you're in the mood to dig, stop on in and see what you can find! read more

Stopped by on my way through town and was really pleased with the size of this location. There was a huge kids section of toys, clothing and books, which was exactly what I was looking for. They had other sections of adult clothing, furniture and home goods. Everything seemed very organized with a great selection of items to choose from. I'd definitely come back by this location. read more

That store on Milham in Portage is abominable. It's NOTHING for the thrifter who shops for RESALE antiques. It's a hot mess in my opinion. Won't return. read more

Their Glassware and vintage section is priced incredibly decently, I'm big in to collecting these works not to resell but because I enjoy maintaining these items, I found a 1997 Melissa Jane porcelain doll here for $12.50, IN THE BOX WITH THE VALIDATION CERTIFICATE, My only 2 issues with this location is how outdated and dark the building looks which obviously isn't a big deal but my second issue is how little they actually wrap glass ware to avoid damage during transit, They only wrap with 1-2 pages of newspaper so I recommend bring a towel or extra shirt to protect them with on the car or walk home! I normally support Goodwill, but it only takes one person/employee! Yes, I arrived at 8:55am, 5 minutes before they opened. Pulled around back and raised the hatch of my SUV. Employee came out and, with attitude, stated "we're not open - open at 9" I said ok, closed my hatch and drove to the Catholic Charities to donate over $400 worth of pre-teen winter ski and snow pants (winter snow clothing). Yes, I was there 5 minutes, early, but would it have taken any effort to grab the three garbage bags of clothes and say "thank you - I'll take care of it, but I can't give you a receipt because we open in 5 minutes" No - so, I will only donate to the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Charity in Kalamazoo moving forward - and it's a big inconvenience to do so as they are downtown Kalamazoo. I'm sure Goodwill serves a good purpose, but they will not receive my expensive children's clothing anymore. read more

The price gouging is absolutely ridiculous. If they received an acoustic guitar broken into seven pieces they'd still try to sell it for $350. I don't know who or how they choose their prices but people go to goodwill for discounted clothing and items, not $30 T shirts and $250 rusty broken saxophones. Crazy that it's a GOODWILL of all places with prices like these... read more

Very expensive. Low quality merchandise. Save time, gasoline, and money by buying off of eBay or Mercari for used goods. With prices so high, sometimes more expensive than eBay, they can no longer call themselves a thrift store. They are NOT a place where people can go to save money anymore. The high prices have gotten out of control to the point where it's better to just buy new for a few bucks more than shop at goodwill. read more

I would love to give a 5 star review if indeed the gentleman in the red shirt that followed me every step I took was not a floor walker thinking I was attempting to steal. I felt very uncomfortable. At one point he was in my personal space. I could hear him breathing. If he were a customer he was creepy. read more

I love to go thrifting but this store is very expensive and the workers watch u like u are going to steal and they are very rude...

This store is a complete joke and complete rip off. Don't buy their bull about proceeds going to help the community. They are all about profit. They have all but erased their community programs, and the ones they do have are completely neglected for their spiraling Life Guides program. Donate your stuff to a women's shelter or church where it will actually do some good. read more

Two weeks ago, my friend and I saw a beautiful ballgown on a mannequin in the window. However, the manager said that it was "Not for Sale". I went back a week later and talked to another manager named David, who said that the clothes in the window are pulled at the beginning of the month. He said that if I came back on January 2nd when they opened at 9am, it would be available for sale. I was the first one in the store this morning, and they told me that they already sold it last week to someone else even though it should have still been on the mannequin at that time per their company policy. I talked to another manager named Chad this morning, who said that this should not have happened. Apparently, store policy changes based upon the person there. read more

My daughter and I was in there and she found a pair of boots she liked the price was on the bottom on the boots , when we got to pay the cashier asked the manager about them and she said that the boots were more than the price that was on them, because they did not have 3 tags on them, how was I to know this it seems they can change the price of things to what ever they want to and when i said something the manager said NOT AT GOODWILL very rudely, i have been at the others ones and they are very nice but this one very rude sales people. read more
