For some reason we were convinced that this place would be the size of a Goodwill, but when we entered, it was about the size of a 7-11. I know it sounds weird, but there was a sadness in this place. The people working had no joy and they appeared disappointed when we didn't buy anything. The prices here were exactly what you would expect to pay. My only and only issue with this place was selection. Had it been larger, I'm sure we would have found some treasure. There were a lot of people there who were clearly regulars. Shopping at the bins is always going to be a competitive environment, everyone's looking for the best stuff in a limited space. It can easily get a little combative in other locations, I've seen pushing, grabbing, and even fighting at other outlets and to some extent I expect it. But that was just not the vibe here, it was relatively chill. The staff here had very clear procedures to make it as fair as possible which they kindly but firmly enforced for everyone. From what I witnessed, all the other patrons respected the rules and kept calm and considerate of each other even in such a small space where everyone's digging around in the same area. And of course you can't beat the value, it takes some effort but I got so much great stuff for way less than I expected to spend. But lets examine the fall here, shall we? First off, customer service was always bad. I cant even list to you the amount of times I've gotten yelled at for being in the way by the previous manager, the bald dude. the employees would often seem on edge, and if there was a good employee the next times I went I would never see them again (seems like the good ones quit). They've changed managers to a lady, and she seems ok, but the quality of the customer service from the workers has totally gone down it seems. One reason I went was because I would get a damage discount on top of stuff that was already almost cheap. The old manager was sickenly sweet to me whenever I was with my mom, but seemed to hate me when I wasn't. I think this has to do with looking young. and although I'm glad it seems like hes gone, I reiterate the service seems to be even less quality. The reason I mention this is because I guess only the manager can offer damage discounts, and I didn't know this. This time I went last, not only did the girl at the front not offer to get the manager and just say "I cant change prices on items" blatantly, but overall didn't seem like she cared about the interaction at all. Which is fine, but don't expect me to come back. The list is long, so this was the straw that broke the camels back. The long list: I've been yelled at least twice that I can remember, there's been people at the front that can't even speak english so you cant really get help (not faulting them maybe, but seems like they should be stocking instead of up front), often the quality of the items is so bad. They didn't check the cds I got the first time I bought any, and one of the disks for the game I got wasn't in there to begin with, but I checked it too late so I couldn't get money back. The pricing is now on par with goodwill ($25 for a cast iron skillet, $8 for table cloths with stains etc) but lower quality than I find at goodwill; the time before last I went I 1) found a cookie and toilet paper inside one of the coats I tried on 2) saw poop stains on clothes on the racks 3) saw sticky substance on a book with what looked like (hopefully) dog hair). I've heard the previous manager yelling at the workers. I have overheard someone say someone has taken stuff out of her cart before to buy themselves. or maybe steal? idk. but I believe it. People will follow you and wait till you look at something with interest, then snatch it up after you walk away. To top it all off, you will still have to ask people to open up locked boxes for some items. I might have more that I remember later, but I'll stop here. If all of this sounds good to you, and you dont care? then that's fine. I will take me and mine elsewhere where I know there are both great deals, they know my name, and treat me well. OK, so first off, the store is not nice inside, and it is basically whatever temperature it is outside, so often that's not very comfortable. It's pretty dingy inside, with dusty, packed shelves that look like they're about to fall over. The right half of the store is clothing, and the left half of the store is... everything else: shoes, glassware, knick-knacks, office supplies, ancient travel-size soap bars, whatever. Oh, and it's kind of smelly. Some stuff has price tags, but a lot of it doesn't. There are a few signs on the wall giving prices by type of clothing, but a lot of the time I end up going to ask what the price is. The quality varies widely - some stuff is pretty used and ratty, and some stuff still has crossed-out Goodwill tags on it, so you know he gets part of his inventory from the Goodwill bins. Customer service is pretty minimal, and there are no returns. So why do I even bother coming here?? Trust me, I ask myself that too. It's just a fascinatingly random assortment of stuff, and every now and then you do find something good. If you're the kind of thrifter who likes pawing through random old junk, you'll enjoy the bizarre garage-sale feel of this place. Definitely not in my top-tier list of Tacoma thrifts, but it is weird and interesting.
