After using my parts, I like to ship out the broken parts back to the mainland, that way I can avoid having to haul it back to Oahu. I have used the UPS Store in Kona, but since I was working in Hilo this time, the closest UPS Store was in Pahoa. Located at a small strip mall called "Puna Kai Shopping Center", you can find this little UPS Store just a stones throw from a McDonald's. Lots of free parking at the strip mall, so access is pretty easy. I walked into the store and was greeted right away. The friendly clerk processed my package, & gave me my receipt, and off I went. Although Pahoa is a little drive from Hilo town, at least this UPS Store provided a very valuable service to the Big Island community.

The friendly, passionate guy who owns this place has been making jewelry for a long time and it shows. Even though the bakeries on the way and Akaka falls nearby kinda suck, this place saved the day. Also check out the few collectible/antique stores nearby. This entire area is a nice retreat from the mass-produced crap that plagues all the islands these days. I will be back (there).

I bought a men's hawaiian shirt, painted dishtowel, necklace, and postcards for about $50 - a very good deal.

Your nephew Kalai/Kalae WONG came to our home yesterday afternoon and our water pump systemppeared to be working for the first 20 minutes after he replaced something's and now our pump won't start and we are now going on five days without water in our home. Kalai/Kalae said he would return this morning, we waited and my husband called Kalai/Kalae and he meant thathe had a medical emergency. He said he'd come up to our home later this afternoon. He hasn't called us and we've been very patient. Kalai/Kalae called another water truck(black) to deliver water, another cousin, my daughter's former school student "Shane" who accompanied the water truck driver and we paid him $500.00 for. an "emergency water haul to volcano"! I don't want to report Kalai/Kalae for not doing better business with Kupuna. My husband paid him $900.00 last night for his emergency visit and he left before checking if the pump was still working. He's now trying to "steal" another $150.00 from us. We worked hard for our retirements, we DON'T STEAL from anyone especially KUPUNA...We are now waiting for him to contact us yet again. He said he'd be up here at 5pm, then called and said, I want $150.00 more. Auwe, Hawai'ians "cheating" especially Kupuna...we're canceling Kalai/Kalae from returning to our home. I hope he doesn't cause any more disdain and troubles for others. To think we were giving him payment for services in advance. He should return the extra $500.00 we gave him yesterday. That's technically stealing. I hope you, Ms. Brenda Park shouldn't recommend your nephew especially with your business. He doesn't know what a "blessing is today". He won't be having very many more if he continues to do business like he did with Us. He's just a scammer too. Respectfully and Sincerel, SaraLyn Lehua Padeken

Err I didn't actually needed to use the advice but that's good to know. They also sanitized everything so the items were really clean. She was really considerate and suggested that we do a fitting first. The flipper straps are actually adjustable so I didn't see an issue. We rented it for one day and the lady said we could just drop it off in the yard if we came back after hours. The whole experience was a breeze and I felt that she really tried to see what a customer's concerns may be and addressed them without my having to ask! I was also semi-interested in a glass ring and she explained how it came from and such. Just very attentive, responsive, and pleasant. The location is really convenient, easy to spot and park.

She never suggested I do a fitting in the store, or suggested that the mask may not seal around my moustache. She asked how long I needed the rental. I asked if they do it for 24 hours or only by the day, and she said by the day. I asked how late they would be open and she said they closed at 5. I said I would be out after 5, so it sounded like I would need a 2 day rental. After she charged my card for a 2 day rental, THEN she mentioned that if I wanted to return the gear after 5 I could just drop it on the back porch. This would have been exactly the thing she should have told me when I was asking what time they closed BEFORE I had committed to 2 days. I only needed 1 day and she sneakily got me to sign up for 2. When I went out to snorkel that day, the mask was dirty and I could not get the mask to seal around my moustache, so water kept rushing in. I gave it a try but I just couldn't snorkel like that. By the time I gave up, it was after 5pm, so I knew the shop would be closed and I couldn't call or go in person that night in order to ask for a refund. When I returned the next morning. Tiffany was not working. The woman working called Tiffany on the phone when I explained the problem, but would not let me talk to her. Instead she just said "it's not company policy to issue refunds" and brushed me off. After complaining again I was given Tiffany's phone number to deal with her directly. I called and she did not pick up. I left a message and she did not return it. I guess she is too busy running for city council to care about how people perceive her business. I would not recommend this shop to anyone who is not an expert. Know exactly what you are getting and ask about every single rule before you give them any of your money. They will not try to help you. They just want your money.
