Not a lot of crowds, plenty of places to have a picnic if that's your thing. The flowering trees are already dropping their leaves and turning green. Tulips are starting to sprout up everywhere. I like coming here to take take photos and hang out. I'm teaching my kids how to photograph and working on their posing skills.

Reservations are…read moreneeded only for major holidays during camping season; Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. Must book the entire holiday weekend 3 days (90$ for non electric sites add $5 each day for electric). I believe it's 51 camp sites which vary in size and majority has electric hookups. When not going on a holiday it is first come first serve spots which is good if you just need to spend one night here. Pull into whichever site you want and at some point the groundskeepers will come to collect your money. It's deep in the woods of the park so there is good shade which is nice on the hotter days. The campgrounds have two bathroom facilities which have showers. No complaints with the bathrooms from me but I didn't use the shower part. The bathrooms are cleaned daily or every other day it seemed. Some spots are more secluded than others..and there is a bit of a hill to the bathroom if you pick spots 1-7 and 48/9 I think it was. Something to consider if you have mobility issues. There are water spigots around the grounds and attached to the bathroom facilities. But no actual sites with water hookups for RVs. The workers drive around the campsite every few hours and each time we have been there (maybe 4 or 5 times) the local police have made their presence known. No alcohol is allowed at this campground. Each site has a picnic table & fire ring. The sites are gravel/dirt & grass. Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am. We found the sites closer to the Playground side/closer to the bathrooms to be more noisy. Also those sites are closer together which would be good for larger groups. Have never had a problem with noise though we have only stayed further away from those areas. The playground has a volleyball net and other Normal playground equipment that I saw driving past it. There is no longer Boat Rentals at this park.. but there is a large lake to kayak and fish in. NO SWIMMING. The lake is a nice size and has a trail so you walk the entire length with benches around a good portion to sit and/or fish. There is a nice sized pond at the park to fish which also has benches around it. By the pond there is a nice picnic area with many picnic tables and grills. Another playground and a large pavilion. This picnic area also has a bathroom. There is a pond when you first turn into the park. The pond also has benches around it but not all the way around. Fishing license is require to fish here and they do come around to check licenses. This place is great if you want to just get away into the woods. Check the parks website to see site sizes before going or stop and take your pick of what's available.

It is stocked at times, so be sure to bring a fishing pole for the kids. They have large fields, playgrounds, tennis courts and more. Funded by the local parents, this space has…read moreeverything a kid could want in a playground--- jungle gyms for little & older kids, rock climbing walls, low-zipline (sit and stand versions), outdoor musical instruments, a playhouse, and a variety of swings (toddler, special needs, older kids and a large one for a group)!! There's even a Free Library kiosk to encourage reading (take a book, leave a book). Bathrooms on site will be a welcome relief to parents (pun intended). We stopped by here after grabbing lunch in the area, what an awesome find. Fortunately, it's within walking distance to a deli and coffee shop. Hope to come here again... best free entertainment for the kiddos.

It's a beautiful landscape that lays host to many event including the 4th of July fireworks. A great place to relax, have a picnic or just relax among nature. It's a beautiful park that is very well kept. The staff keeps it very clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are pretty clean, the staff friendly and it is dog friendly. It also has the Arboretum connected to it. It is a nice hidden treasure of the Campbell Hall and Montgomery area.

The dogs circle and crowd a dog entering the park. my mild mannered dog had to show his teeth to defend himself. Owners sit on benches and socialize.

THE GOOD ----------------…read more+ LOTS of trails of all levels if you're into hiking. + The Hessian Lake Loop is a super easy walking path for those with families, has a great view of the lake and mountain and has many picnic tables surrounding it. + The Trailside Museums & Zoo is located not too far from the Hessian Lake Loop and is totally, 100% free! And you WILL actually see animals, including a black bear, porcupine and bobcat! + There are vending machines randomly located throughout the park. Yes, they are pricey, but, if you're desperate you'll fork up the $$$ for a beverage or snack. + There are public restrooms every once in awhile by Hessian Lake. + There are multiple parking lots at the park that charge $10. + There is a massive field, perfect for a game of frisbee or any sport requiring a lot of space, between the Carousel and the Bear Mountain Inn.
