A great find. Sanbao Chinese Kitchen opened in January and is in an area that was crying out for a…read moregenuine Chinese restaurant. The menu must be one of the best outside of Chinatown featuring gorgeously-flavoured dishes not seen in standard Chinese restaurants. For example, the sizzling fillet steak, fried shredded potato (exactly as found in China) and sago soup dessert. I was thrown by the egg fried rice being listed as Homestyle Fried Rice but the friendly staff (seemingly all genuine Chinese) guided me as and when needed. They do takeaway too which is a bonus for us locals. Sanboa is very near the cinema in King Street and are round the corner from Ravenscourt Park station. Highly recommended.

These're much better than the restaurant in China town, and even much better than some others in China!! Highly highly recommended!!!

in the over-hyped food wasteland that is the chain-dominated Wimbledon Village, it's nice to see an…read moreindependent restaurant. Bayee Village has been producing reliable, tasty Chinese food in Wimbledon for decades and there is a sister restaurant in Putney. The decor is great, from the 2 stone lions guarding the entrance to the large fish tank and Chinese lanterns inside. You are also always assured of a warm welcome and better service than in many Chinatown restaurants. The food is a mixture of Peking (north) and Szechuan (southwest) cuisine. The house speciality is seafood and if your budget can stretch, you won't be disappointed with the lobster and spring onion on a bed of crispy noodles, steamed whole sea bass with ginger and spring onion, kung po king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and garlic and soft shell crab with fresh chilli pepper and garlic salt. The other non seafood dishes are also good. A good solid local Chinese restaurant.

It was fresh, full of flavours and it even felt as though i was eating healthy food! I had a gorgeous aubergine dish that was gorgeous and their crispy duck was really tasty as well as their cashew nut dishes. We had some really nice wine here as well. The decor is quite strange, with a classic piano and aquarium in the restaurant but i guess it gave us something to look at while we waited...and we were waiting for quite a while...maybe this is a good sign as it made me think everything was being cooked freshly from scratch, otherwise they were just being really slow. The service of the waiters was a little on the slow side but luckily we weren't in a rush. The prices were all pretty reasonable as well. I will return if i'm in the area.

I can't believe I've not reviewed this before, as I'm regular here…read more This is a fairly large restaurant for the area, with a slightly twee waterwheel at the entrance. Don't be put off though, because inside it's a proper old fashioned restaurant with white napkins and tablecloths. They don't do dim sum any more, but have a familiar Chinese menu with Szechuan specialities, including some of the more challenging spicy offal dishes. But there are plenty of familiar favourites for the less adventurous. It's frequented by local Chinese families, which is always a good sign. Staff are friendly and efficient. Expect two courses with coffee and wine to be about £25-30 a head.

The dim sum menu has only restarted in the last year and a half when they got in a new chef. The service is always prompt and courteous. Kids will be fascinated by the large fish tank and water wheel feature. The preponderence of Chinese clientele tells its own story - we are very fussy when it comes to food. The food is of good quality, quantity and ingredients - large prawns in har gau and cheong fun, crispy pastry for the char siew sow and lovely roasted meats. The food isn't greasy, a common problem for lower quality dim sum places. The pastry skins are all thin for the steamed dishes and crispy for the fried dishes. They lose a star for a slightly small menu with some old favourites missing like siu loong bow and shark fin dumpling. Also, they used to serve suckling pig and it's still on the menu but no longer available. They also do an evening menu but I can't really comment on that. It's a great place for dim sum and what they do have on the menu is first class.
