The food and coffee here is nothing special. The atmosphere is tired and cramped. It needs a HUGE update.

This review isn't about the food or the drinks of Good Earth. At this point, either you like it or you don't. Although I've heard that they've now switched to Direct Trade coffee, which is one step better than fair-trade, so that is great! What I loved about this particular good earth was the design of the shop itself. The two-story loft concept really does something for me. The second floor is great if you are there to read or write, you can hang out in the loft area and not be too distracted. If you have a creepy thing going for you, it is also a great place to people watch. It has has a really nice and sunny patio. It is dog friendly too, so feel free to bring your favourite pooch. Hopefully it is your own. If you can get there during the day, you can enjoy a nice latte while getting an even nice tan. That is what I call: Two birds. One stone. read more

This is probably my favourite local spot to have coffee and meet up with people for an hour. The upstairs feels like I'm relaxing in the comfort of my own home when I get the comfy seats. The patio outside is a fair size however it is right off the parking lot entrance to the street and can sometimes get quite dusty. But what do you want, the coffee is good, the food is good and there's lots of Windows so it's always a good vibe! read more

I like to try and support local but places like this make it difficult. I paid $20 for lunch and a drip coffee and sat to study. The lunch was not very good, I wasn't even able to finish the soup and sandwich. The refill for a "large" drip is $2.25 but free if it's a small coffee apparently? When the price is already $3.20 to begin with. Didn't make sense to me or the girl at the counter either. That's why I'll continue to be a Starbucks patron instead of local unfortunately. Decent cafe and nice staff but product quality lacked. read more

Oh, Good Earth. I've tried, I really have... but I just can't seem to like you. No matter what location I go to, the coffee is always disappointing. I never finish a cup. Not to say that the staff wasn't friendly (they were) or that the location and venue itself aren't great (they are) but I just am not a fan of the coffee, plain or specialty. I met some friends for brunch on a holiday Monday at this location. I had never been here before and was surprised with their range of fod items. From Sandwiches to mac and cheese to oatmeal and pastries, there was something for everyone at fair prices too. It was a sunny day so we sat on the patio. It was pretty busy but the tables turned over in an appropriate amount of time and there was no pressure to leave if you weren't ready. It was cool to see so many patrons making sure they cleaned their tables after they left so it would be ready to go for the next person-I think that says something about the neighbourhood and their value of cool places like this. The service was good although the cashier seemed easily confused-at least she was happy. I had one of their tropical iced drinks and the mac and cheese (both great). My friends had the southwest egg bowl, the soup, the oatmeal and a sandwich-all of which were devoured. I saw neighbouring tables order the largest scones i have ever seen-I'm going to try one of those next time. There were people there from a nearby seniors facility as well as young kids, runners, teens and everything in between. Its is nice to visit a place that really does appeal to so many different people. read more

I've been visiting Calgary for a week and have gone to this Good Earth Cafe every morning for an Americano. Aside from one visit where the girl didn't pour it long enough, each order was perfect and absolutely delicious. The store itself is clean and inviting. Each visit, I saw numerous people sitting and enjoying themselves, chatting with one another and enjoying the space. It's a lovely coffee shop and I will greatly miss its Americanos! read more

This is one of my fave places to meet up for coffee in the south of the city. There are several Good Earths throughout the city, all locally owned and operated, but this one snags top prize for best space. It feels like a chalet in the Alps - all sloping ceilings, exposed brick walls, wooden beams and huge floor to ceiling windows letting in all kinds of crazy light. The look is original and organic and creates a mellow, relaxing vibe. To top it all off, the food here is totally yum too. Even though it's all homemade and healthy, you're not stuck choosing between plain granola and plain granola. The carrot cake is too die for with possibly the best cream cheese icing ever to be iced on a cake and if you get the chocolate brownie zapped for a couple of seconds it seriously does melt in your mouth. It's not all desserts either. You can come here for breakfast, lunch, dinner and there's always several hot casseroles to choose from or soup, breads, salads, a variety of baked goods and of course several scrumptious dessert options. The prices are a little steep, so be prepared to spend roughly the same on a cup of tea as you would for the entire box at the Safeway across the street, but it is all organic and fair trade and it's just a feel good place. Cozy and inviting, it always smells great and the staff are always friendly and smiley. Plus, one more bonus to add to the list, the café backs on to Glenmore Reservoir which is beautiful in any season and at any time of the day so there's always somewhere to walk off the cake! read more

There are a lot of good reasons to go to this Good Earth Cafe: Great concept, beautiful space, a local success story and ostensibly good to their employees. Unfortunately decent coffee or good food is not one of the reasons. Brewed coffees, even their lightest, taste overwhelmingly of charcoal and roast. Baked items like biscuits and scones are heavy and often quite salty. Sandwiches sit in the cooler for most of the day, so they're fine if you're getting something grilled or pressed, but not the freshest if you're eating something cold. Hot mac-and-cheese tastes like it must be really good for you (bland) though the lentil stew has a nice flavor balance. I'm here about once a month for a recurring meeting, and the most luck I've had is with espresso based drinks. Ask for a latte with whole milk, but be wary that there can be a wide margin in the skill of the person working the machine. read more

Good Earth in Glenmore Landing is a cafe that does not try to emulate Starbucks, it is a cafe in its own right and embraces the westcoast style. The coffee is some of the best I found in Calgary, the lattes and the Americanos are excellent, the brewed coffee is also above the competition in complexity of flavour and richness. The baked goods are somewhat disapointing as they are overpriced and selection is a bit thin. The decor is nice, as Chad W. mentioned, it is very loft-like. The upper floor features comfy chairs and a quiter atmosphere. The lower floor has a plenty of tables and a nice patio for the spring and summer months. read more

I always enjoy coming to this location for with my son, for meetings or just to work alone. There is a risk of there not being enough room but in the odd case that does happen I know that are a number of other easy options right there. Great solution for meetings or working alone, not as ideal with a toddler if you can get into the little play section. That being the only down side, many mom's stalk or or rely on a very small space to meet in let the kidlets play and there can be a bit of a table battle for the one table available in that area. With that though it's not a 'play place' and you have to test your luck and hope for the best. Good coffee, yum treats, lovely 'other drink' options. Overall love Good Earth and this location and it's loft area is be far one of my favourite locations. Note parking can be a bit of a battle for a spot, but if you don't mind walking you can just park at the other end and walk over, not a big deal. read more

Simple, Local, Friendly, Affordable. I and many folks in neighbouring neighbourhoods are grateful to have this very pleasant spot to meet up, relax, and or work over a warm beverage or light meal. Plenty of decent pizzette, sandwich, and soup options, and quite consistent and competent baristas. The five stars are for value. This is not fine dining. Just decent quality and good value with everything they sell. Lots of light, live plants, and cozy nooks for those who wish to linger. read more

A client of mine lives nearby so I have opportunities every week to stop by Good Earth if I have a few minutes to spare. This is a super busy cafe and always feels crowded to me. I do like that it's nice and bright and has a second floor. Unfortunately, after several attempts, I have discovered that their mocha consistently sucks. I also had a bad experience when trying to use my laptop, as the plug-in wasn't working well, so the power would cut in and out. However, I will give it three stars because it's high energy and the food looks good. read more

I love this location of the Good Earth - it's relaxed, sometimes, and very bustly/busy other times - but any which way, I love the staff (cheerful, respectful, personable) and the quality of the Americano - consistently one of my favorites. Very comfortable location. I love to have my coffee and visit in the loft area. In the baking is always good.

One of my favourite study spots in SW Calgary. There is almost always a table open, and the staff is pretty good. They are super friendly and really do try to make good coffee. My only complaint is sometimes they don't check the tables upstairs to see if they need to be cleaned- I've been there two or three times where a bunch of empty cups and dishes were piled on one table. read more
