I have having major Good Commons withdrawal. I arrived Thur. evening for a weekend yoga retreat. The vibe was casual Vermont chill. The setting was inviting and serene. Food service commence and the flavors, plating and offerings were tantalizing, creative and sumptuous. The public areas are conducive for meetings and gatherings. The sleeping areas are close quarters in some rooms and spacious in others. Bedding is incredibly comfy, assuring a good night's rest. There are plenty of bathrooms and are fully stocked with Flourish Apothecaries. Jenny, the house lab is in the house (if you have allergies, she can stay home) providing love and hugs. The hot tub outside is a wonderful spot to relax and recharge. Tesha and Marissa treated us like family. They went the extra mile, insuring the weekend flowed. The yoga room was inviting and serene. I concur with the other reviewers. I just came back from a 3-night stay at Good Commons, there for a gluten free culinary retreat weekend. The Inn is a beautiful 4700 SQ foot, tastefully-appointed venue with comfy sofas, fireplace, ultra modern spacious kitchen and numerous bedrooms and bathrooms. The water throughout the house is purified, so both drinking water and shower water are chlorine-free. There's a hot tub (didn't know or would have brought a bathing suit), yoga/dance studio and lots of space to relax. You can rent rooms (I was in the shared loft which is a large room with 12 cozy beds and two bathrooms-I only had one roommate, so it was even more spacious). Next to our room was the living room loft, a cozy bedroom/living room area with its own TV. The dining room can seat 20 easily. The house has free wifi and free long distance and voicemail, which comes in handy as the area doesn't get cell reception-but you're on vacation, so it's nice to disconnect if you want to. The owner Tesha is a delight and she makes sure your stay is the very best. She owns a van that can get you around if you hire her to do so. Only 10 minutes from Killington and Okemo resorts, this is a great place to rest your bones after a day on the slopes. The quaint town of Woodstock is within 45 minutes as are Middlebury College and other unique VT areas of interest such as cheese factories, cider mills, etc. Note: this is not a B&B. If you are renting with friends/family, you can cook your meals or eat at one of the local area restaurants within a 10-minute drive. If you have the money to spend, I highly encourage you to hire Alejandra Ramos (http://www.alwaysorderdessert.com), a personal chef and food blogger/journalist from NYC who will come and spoil you with an eclectic fare of Latin, European, Asian flavors for all tastes and food sensitivities. She was our chef this past weekend and the meals were all gluten free, with some special egg and dairy free delights for some of the other visitors in the group. Just returned from a week @ Good Commons where we hosted a ski house. INCREDIBLE location, close to Killington and Okemo, beautifully appointed rooms which slept our ginourmous party of 20, wonderful service and great chef! Did I mention the hot tub, 6 person steam shower, homemade post dinner smores or freshly baked scones in the morning....heven! I just hosted a yoga and meditation retreat at Good Commons and the experience far exceeded my very high hopes. The house has a warm, welcoming feel. There were lovely locally made bath products in each of the many showers. Everyone was comfortable in their clean, cozy rooms, and the shared spaces were perfect for casual down-time chatting. The yoga studio had every prop you might need, along with wood floors, great light and an easy music set-up. Throughout the weekend, guests happily disappeared upstairs one-by-one for their scheduled massages. What could be nicer? And the food! (I cannot emphasize this enough.) The food was perfect! We savored every delicious, healthy, body-and-soul-nourishing bite. Tesha, the owner, is an all around amazingly wonderful, talented, delightful person. Her team of helpers work with the calm, efficient, good-hearted grace that characterizes Good Commons. Really, I could go on and on. I will definitely go back. read more

Ohhh my where do I start!?!? I know this review will sound over the top - but that's how much love I feel for Good Commons after this weekend. I was blessed enough to be a part of the Singer/Songwriter retreat lead by Ginger Merritt this weekend at Good Commons. From the first moments on the Good Bus from NYC to VT, the energy and the warmth from Tesha, Chuck and Dave was palpable. They are beautiful people with giving, open spirits. We were mostly strangers and by the time we arrived at Good Commons, we were becoming friends. The bus was filled with each person passing the guitar, introducing themselves and sharing their music... and it didn't stop for one second through the 4 days I was there... Arriving at Good Commons, entering the beautiful B&B, exploring the house, bedrooms and cozy areas was beyond wonderful. After we all settled in - we had a delicious (locally produced!!) dinner of soups and salads and snacks and beverages. Delicious doesn't begin to describe how good the food was.... from that meal, to the amazing spreads for breakfast... 5 stars!!!! The retreat was filled with music, music, music, songwriting, collaborating, playing, performing a live show Saturday night, yoga, hikes, soaking in the hot tub and beyond beautiful souls... I wound up writing again, something I had been blocked from doing for over a year. It was organized in such an effective way to create the forum for artistic creations! Leaving on Sunday was really sad. No one, and I mean no one, wanted to leave. We experienced such a sacred, unforgettable time on our retreat, and I have to credit Tesha, Chuck & Dave as well as Ginger Merritt, Lizanne Knotts and Dana Gilly (organizers and music/yoga workshop leaders)for making that experience what it was... unforgettable. I would return to Good Commons for ANY retreat.... and am thinking about hosting a weekend or two myself !!! read more

I just got back from a yoga retreat at Good Commons and had an incredible time. The owner and chef, Tesha, made us all feel very welcome as if we were in her personal home. Our group enjoyed home cooked meals, and Tesha went above and beyond for me personally since I have dietary restrictions. I've never eaten better. Just spent a long weekend under the care of lovely Tesha, skiing Okemo and Killington. WIth the comfortable ride from NYC on the Good Bus, which incl. snacks and wine tasting, charming and equally comfortable rooms in a lovingly restored house, hot tubbing after the days on the slope, restorative yoga led by Marcus, dinners expertly prepared by Chef Matthew and the company of many amazing people, I really had the best time!! Being Gluten Intolerant, I particularly appreciate the care taken to accommodate my dietary needs, knowing that I can trust that what is prepared is not cross-contaminated and know that it's equally delicious! Knowing that Tesha caters for virtually anything, I can really recommend this lovely spot to anyone that wants to organize a special event or a group/family gathering. If you ever want to see the beauty of Vermont, do it while staying at Good Commons. It is an amazing retreat for any occasion. It is warm, friendly, and like nothing else I've experienced. The Chef is outstanding and the entire experience warms my heart to think about even though 9 months have passed. Good Commons is excellent for large groups or families, with several rooms to accommodate 2-4 people and the upstairs dorm style party room! (stay up there, its the most fun!) The hostess, Tesha is a very sweet and business savvy woman who knows how to throw a few good retreats! I came here for my first Gluten Free Retreat last month and I'm glad I did it. I met several interesting people, tasted some delicious gluten-free gourment dishes, and sipped a bit too much of good wines for my own good :-) In addition, round trip transportation was included, which is an added convenience for us city folks and I love the locally made toiletries they had for us and the hot tub and fire pit and more... read more

Had such an amazing time here last weekend! I took part in the Culinary Immersion retreat and it was seriously a dream and so great to get away from the city. It was my first time in Vermont and I'm absolutely smitten. The house is lovely and so comfortable. I had a shared bedroom and access to an incredible steam shower. The food was really good--all made with locally sourced ingredients and served family style on a long wood table for all to share. Our hosts Matthew and Tesha were so lovely and did everything they could to make us feel right at home. I ate several incredible meals, shared with some seriously cool people, and learned a lot. Add to that afternoons in the hot tub, nightly massages, s'mores by the fire, yoga and pilates classes, and visits to local shops and artisan food producers, and you have a dream vacation. Highly recommended for a relaxing retreat from home. Oh and even better? They offer round trip jitney transportation included in the price of the stay! read more

A large living room with cushy sofas and chairs offered a space to gather. The backyard features a brand new state of the art hot tub and fire pit and seating both on the patio and the hillside. For the past two years, the ski shop where I work has had our Season Ending party at Good Commons. This place is exactly what we want! They provide an incredibly relaxing vibe, a comfortable private space, and beautiful meals. When we asked to have our appetizers served at the local ski hill in Plymouth (Plymouth Notch Ski Area) where we skied for the afternoon before heading over to Good Commons, there was nothing but "absolutely - what a great idea!" as an answer. Tesha and her crew really know how to make you feel at home, and wonderfully fed. Most of us ended up taking a nap on the studio floor while watching ski movies on the wall after dinner. For our staff to spend a day skiing, eating, laughing, hot tubbing, movie watching and even napping/snoring together was an amazing experience for all of us. Hi, I had the most amazing weekend at Good Commons when I attended the Singer/Songwriter Retreat in late April, 2010. I am a Manhattanite and while I love the great outdoors, I don't really like roughing it too much! :) Good thing, because Good Commons was beautiful, well kept, homey, warm, inviting, really clean, full of amazing energy and a perfectly RELAXING spot to chill out and unwind. Tesha runs the place with the efficiency of a CEO, warmth and positive energy of a sweet Earth Mother, cooking skillzzz of Martha Stewart (but not attitude) and patience of a Saint. Yep, a saint! The other members of the crew were so sweet and any issue I had was addressed, down to the availability of raw veggie snacks to nosh on in between gourmet meals! Vermont is stunning and we enjoyed outdoor hikes and jogs. I was totally inspired by the artists who attended, the workshop facilitators (Ginger Merritt, Lizanne Knott) and even the on site dog, Stitch. :) Lots of emoticons in this email because my trip to Good Commons had me feeling totally blissed out and inspired for days and I can't wait to go back again! read more
