They made the experience as comfortable as possible. I was given numbing shots in my gums and nitrous gas to sleep. I woke up a few times, said some really stupid things, and went back to sleep. I felt absolutely no pain, even when I was conscious. They provided me with plenty of painkillers afterwards and instructed me on how to take care of my mouth while healing.
