Wow, I had only ever been to the Emergency place on E. Francisco, off the freeway in San Rafael…read more Being in So.Ma(rin) VEG was closer (old Tower records spot that is now Trader Joe's off the Freeway to the right- before Sir Francis Drake/Larkspur Landing Exit w/BEVMo -next to TJs and World Market) and although seems small from the front was spacious and modern and fully staffed & equipped for an emergency. I had spent the night debating if I should take my Pug in or not- for potential Aspiration Pneumonia- (wet loud barking sound) and how they can go from better to bad at day 3-7! Anyways, I tried my vet first in the AM and she had explained that they needed X-rays and to hold her - would maybe need to be put under- and for a brachiocephalious dog- if she took a turn while under(wet lungs) they would NOT have what they need to save her- ie oxygen etc to intubate her. So, my Doc made notes and sent over to them, while I headed over. Was greeted by very friendly staff in a clean tidy spacious space. It was probably 8:30am. I was the only customer. Saw Dr Anderson who went over her history of the many recent things that got us to this moment. She did a quick Sonogram? To look at her lungs to see if she could see foreign matter in her lungs. Yes. They were able to do X-rays and not put her under. They were able to discover this GI issue we have been trying to solve- which put her on rice and cottage cheese which led to it in her lungs- and then this Xray. They prescribed Amoxicillin and cans of a Hill's Rx diet. She just finished all that and really has been doing better each day that passes. I just really appreciated the Doctor's thoughtful process and everything we needed for success. She was luckily on the upswing. *This is the Modern ER for your pets. Totally would recommend to everyone. Call ahead or just go- they are helpful either way. They are 24hours open.

Wow, what an incredible team at VEG Veterinary Emergency Group in Larkspur!…read more Our 7-year old pup had been lethargic and occasionally yelping in pain, and we knew we wouldn't be able to get into our regular vet until Tuesday at the earliest. So we called VEG on a Sunday - we were able to speak with Dr. Tracy and she was helpful over the phone. Given his age and handful of symptoms, she did recommend a visit. I brought him in around noon on a Sunday and thankfully beat the rush. VEG is located in a BUSY shopping center with Trader Joe's and Cost Plus. Thankfully they have a few dedicated parking spots out front. We were triaged in the waiting area, and our whole visit took place there. They have dog beds to make the pups/pets comfortable and water/coffee/snacks to make the humans comfortable. The space is light and bright and very welcoming. Most of the team got down to my pup's level and checked him out on the floor - what a lovely touch to make the experience less stressful for my pup (rather than elevating him on a table). Dr. Tracy and Team took great care of us. My guy had an ultrasound and some bloodwork taken, and nothing major was detected. What a huge relief. They were communicative and clear about wait time and pricing. They gave us an anti-inflamtory for the likely neck pain and a script for a pain med, if needed. We saw some more serious cases come in, and the VEG Team acted calmly and with such kindness and compassion. Thank you for all that you do. We hope that we don't need to visit again anytime soon, but if we have another emergent concern, VEG will be our first stop.

We had to take our kitty in on NYE evening, and while it is not an ideal situation to be in, they made the experience as stress-free and compassionate as possible. They quoted us a wait time of 8ish hours, which in my experience is pretty average for an ER. After 10 minutes or so, they took us back to get vitals done and hold onto our kitty while they discussed treatment options. Both the assisting technician and primary doctor were incredibly kind and understanding, and laid out very transparent and varied pricing for different procedures. We ended up opting for the lower range and less intensive exam, which was quoted at about $1300-$1500. We completely understood, and while a bit steep, is again average for what needed to be done. To our surprise (and delight) they told us they would hang onto our cat and give him some mild sedatives while he waited to be seen. They gave us some good food recommendations near by, and let us know they'd give us a call when he was ready. Once again, to our absolute surprise, they gave us a call THREE HOURS later that it was a successful procedure and he was all ready to go! We rushed to get him and they had us settle up our bill. The total? $420. I nearly broke down in tears on the spot, I sincerely was not expecting the cost to be so low. Every single staff member from the receptionists, assistants/residents, and doctors were SO nice despite working in what I imagine is a high-intensity and stressful work environment. Our cat is almost back to full health less than 48 hours later, and the weight has been lifted off of our chests. I cannot thank the heroes that work here enough for everything they do.

This is not your ordinary veterinary visit. The open layout was incredibly unique and reassuring, no hidden back rooms or closed-off areas. You can actually see the equipment, the medical teams working, and the level of care being provided in real time. It was very eye-opening and created a sense of transparency and trust that we really appreciated. The waiting area was also so thoughtful and comfortable, with coffee, tea, and cookies available for guests. The atmosphere overall felt calm, modern, and supportive rather than cold or overwhelming like many emergency clinics can feel. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, professional, and genuinely helpful. A special thank you to Dr. Nicole Marter, who was incredibly friendly, compassionate, and informative. She helped ease our worries and made us feel so much better about our little one's care. We left feeling truly impressed and grateful. Highly recommend VEG San Ramon to anyone needing emergency veterinary care.

The level of compassion and care that we received from her is unparalleled. She was so patient, kind, called with updates frequently, and genuinely cared about his well-being throughout his stay. When his condition got worse and had to be transferred to specialty hospital, she called hospitals multiple times, trying to get him admitted after being told they wouldn't take him and even escalated to her Director to also make phone calls. She fought for him - fought to keep him alive. After she was finally able to get a specialty care hospital to take him and he was transferred, she called daily to check up on him even after he was discharged from VEG. The world needs more doctors like her especially during difficult times. Dr. Matsuo is a kind human, who gives me hope again that there are doctors out there who actually care about their patients vs. focusing on volume. VEG is so incredibly lucky and fortunate to have her and I highly recommend that if your pet ever has the unfortunate need to go to VEG, you ask for Dr. Matsuo. We thank her so much for being so patient, having tenacity in fighting for patients, and being just an amazing, wonderful, compassionate person. We thank you so much for saving Pinot.

This…read morepast experience is in no way a negative against the staff as far as their customer service, but more of an "educational" review. I sent this email to them on 1/3, and I haven't received a response yet. Even when this incident occurred, the staff was attentive and went above and beyond to try to resolve the situation. I'm posting this for education to anyone who has a cat. This is a copy of my email on 1/3: Good morning, I wanted to personally write instead of posting a review on Yelp, about our experience when we brought Maple in on Sunday, December 28th. Our family has a long history of pets that we have brought in over the years, and we have never had a negative experience in any way, in fact, I have always spoke highly of the entire staff there when recommending to friends and family. I want to start off by staying that our experience on 12/28 was not a negative one with regards to the staff, but I am writing this email to bring something to your attention in hopes of educating staff to prevent this from happening in the future (and yes, it's not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" when cats are involved!). Maple has been very sick and multiple visits to her regular vet and your emergency, have happened the past month. We brought her to emergency on 12/28 in hopes of finding out what was wrong and finding a solution. Maple is a very nervous cat and doesn't like strangers, and she really did not like having anything shoved up her butt when she has been in a lot of discomfort due to the diarrhea. Maple was examined, then taken to the room for further testing. I wish I would have objected, but I trusted that staff would do their very best with regard to safety. Unfortunately, Maple escaped their hold and tried to find a place to hide, which was inside an open cabinet where there was an opening to the underside of the steel exam table. I'm sure I don't need to state how dangerous this is and could have been if the outcome was different. Cats are very unpredictable creatures, and after we were invited to go back to the room to try to coax her out, I was surprised at the lack of secure spaces for cats. I want to add that this ordeal ended up being just short of 9 hours at. We tried everything to get her out. This was an extremely stressful and upsetting time for my daughter and I and resulted in my being awake for 24 hours. My daughter ended up calling in sick for work since we left the vet around 6am. I was doing my best not to be upset at staff, but I feel like looking back, there is a bit of negligence on their part. My request is that staff is educated, more careful, and that there is some type of plan in place to mitigate any future occurrences. Maple was lucky. We were lucky that she didn't have a serious health condition and that she was healthy enough to be in that hole for that length of time. My ask is that you also find out from the manufacturer if there is a cover for the inside of that exam table, so that in the off-chance staff leaves that door open, that another cat will not have the same experience as Maple did. I look forward to your response.

I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.

All staff were kind, patient, & considerate. Spencer & Dr Gabrielle were very understanding of our situation and gave us all information necessary to make informed decisions. Our very unfriendly kitty received wonderful care and this facility will be missed when it is shut down by greedy VCA (owned by MARS Inc- yes the candy!) at the end of the month. More money in the MARS corporation's pockets and less care for pets in need. Such a pity.
