Instead of addressing our primary concern, the clinic immediately hit us with an astronomical, predatory estimate of $6,000 to $7,000 for surgery. When we declined their inflated quote, they ultimately did nothing for our cat, stating he was unmanageable and too upset for them to handle. Yet, despite providing absolutely zero care and failing to clean the ruptured mass, they still had the audacity to charge us $880. Charging nearly $900 for nothing while trying to pressure owners into thousands of dollars in unnecessary surgery is completely unacceptable. Pet owners deserve honest, competent help when their animals are in pain, not financial gouging. Look elsewhere. I am fully intent on reporting this clinic and reviewing elsewhere so people know.

My cat, Theodore, suffered a rectal prolapse on a Sunday. It was one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever been through. He was in excruciating pain, vomiting, having diarrhea, yelping, and literally had tissue protruding from his body. I genuinely thought I was going to lose him. Before finding Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin, I called well over ten emergency veterinary hospitals throughout Marin and San Francisco. Every single one either had wait times ranging from hours to over ten hours, couldn't perform surgery for days, or simply didn't have the staff to take another emergency. I was driving from place to place and calling anyone I could think of while watching Theodore continue to suffer. By that point, I felt completely helpless. Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin was the only hospital that could take him almost immediately. Within minutes of arriving, he was being evaluated and prepared for surgery. After spending hours hearing "no," finally hearing someone say they could help was something I'll never forget. What impressed me even more was the quality of care. Every single person I interacted with -- from the reception staff, to the nurses, to the discharge team, to the veterinarian -- was compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly communicative. They never made me feel like I was asking too many questions, and they took the time to explain every step of Theodore's care. Theodore had been dealing with a complicated medical situation for months that involved a lot of uncertainty. Their team quickly helped me understand what was happening and what needed to happen next. For the first time in months, I finally felt like I had answers and that Theodore was in the right hands. One thing that really stood out to me was that the care didn't stop when we walked out the door. The follow-up from the doctor and staff has been incredible. Recovering from an emergency like this is overwhelming, but they continued to answer my questions, check in, and make sure Theodore was doing well. I'm happy to say that he's recovering very well, and I'm beyond grateful for everything they've done for both of us. I genuinely cannot thank this team enough. They were there when no one else could be, and I'll never forget that. If your pet is having an emergency, I cannot recommend Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin highly enough. After we arrived the Dr accessed and then emailed an estimated cost to which you agree to and pay electronically. Melissa A. was Lacy's nurse/tech, I don't know her title exactly but she was AWESOME with Lacy ( and me, lol ). First she administered drops in her eyes to make her vomit. After it works then they reverse it with a shot. Then they rehydrated her via IV. Followed by charcoal mixed with baby food to absorb anything left. Lacy stayed with us the entire time, it seemed like most pets stayed with their person. During our close to 2 hours there I witnessed a ton of tug on your heartstrings stuff. I watched them treat a lot of dogs for different things, someone brought in their snake. Everyone working there was calm and gentle with the pets and the people. Emergency vet isn't cheap but I am so grateful to them. Lacy is feeling fine now. We have now nicknamed that cake our 1000 dollar cake;) If your pet needs them I highly recommend!

I was dismissed and full on disrespected by Dr Katy Wilkinson. My dog can be reactive/anxious at the vet. I called before coming asking if I should give home his trazodone/gabapentin to keep him calm and they instructed me not to do so. Which I listened to. After explaining my pets symptoms and behavioral issues I also explained to the Dr how my pet does better with exams when I'm out of the room because he is very protective over me. After hearing everything DR Wilkinson determined they would want to move forward with an XRay and said he'd need to be sedated. I informed her he's had X-rays at his primary vet without sedation and an ultrasound at VEG without sedation before. But she was firm she would need it. She said she would try to examine him first with the muzzle on and go from there to determine if they could do it without sedation. Her and her helper came in the room, huddled over my anxious dog on the couch and tried to examine him in front of me. He was growling and I reminded her he does better with me out of the room. She asked me to step out, which I did and watched through the blinds. They finished in 30 seconds max. After opening the door she goes yeah we have to sedate him since he was thrashing and snapping at us during exam (this never happened I watched the entire 30 second exam). I asked her if they could try to do the X-rays without sedation and if it didn't work they could sedate him. She said she would not. I explained I don't understand why we wouldn't even try when they've been able to do it before without sedation. She said "I'm not sure how they did it at your vet if they had to pin him to the table but I'm not comfortable doing that here" (said this about 5x in the next 20 minutes) insinuating that I take my pet to a place where they abuse my dog or that I'd be okay with someone doing that to my pet when I would never do or say such a thing. It was insanely rude to be saying such a thing to a pet parent. She also repeatedly said "I refuse to put my staff in danger" which o would never ask for and assured her I care about her staff as well but don't see how they would not even attempt if it had been done before. At this point in the interaction I tried to see if my primary vet could get him in for X-RAYS,but they couldn't. I let her know we could proceed with their plan but I wasn't happy with my experience and disappointment in the staffs care today. She tried to back and forth with me about why it makes sense to examine a dog with anxiety by crowding him on a couch then tried to send me to sage veterinary. I declined and said I just want my dog to be okay and taken care of here. Then she goes fine we can try to do the X-ray without sedation but you'll have to help me because I'm not putting my staff in danger. I refused. At this point I didn't have trust that she had positive intentions or even wanted to help. They switched drs and I got dr kwon instead who was AMAZING. She actually listened, did the exam on my pup with me out of the room and said he did surprisingly well (LIKE i SAID HE WOULD IN THE BEGINNING) she agreed to do the X-rays without sedation and guess what, done in 10 minutes vet tech said he did great! Her assistant Kyle was so so helpful too! If dr Wilkinson actually tried to assist my pet instead of taking the easy way out through sedation and not insinuate I take my dog to a vet in the alley where they pin him down. I'd probably have a positive experience from the start. Trying to shame a pet parent who is asking questions or trying to save on an expensive bill when it is possible is insanity. I also want to recognize the nursing staff. Every technician and team member was kind, professional, and welcoming. They treated both us and our dog with incredible care and compassion. They throughly explained every single part of policies and procedures. Including the aftermath of Sadie passing away and dealing with their third party company. In the morning, we knew something was wrong with our dog Sadie. I called VCA and Collin was absolutely helpful and so sweet and talked us through. In a few hours she got worse, I called them back and they told me to bring her in and gave me warning that they did have many patients and there could be a long wait for me not for Sadie to be looked at. They would assess her and proceed. Sadie's paws and leg were already swelling by the time we got there. They took her back and asked all the questions before examining her. The Vet Dr. so and so, came in after a bit of wait to explain more what could be happening and what they needed to do. They came in and explained the costs and why the tests were necessary.

This review is for the Internal Medicine Department, which is separate from the emergency room…read more(this department is in the building in the back of the parking lot). I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.
