The weather is cold, and it killed my battery. Initially my friend gave me a jump, so I drove it around for a while to let things under the hood cook a little. Luckily, I had the foresight to park the car in the Shell parking lot to test if it would turn back on. It didn't. So I explained the situation and dude told me a couple hours. Almost two hours to the minute he calls me up and said that everything with the car is fine but I indeed needed a new battery. So, they're honest here! The labor was a tad high, but they still do a good job. According to my friend the guys down at Grace Auto further down Damen will do it for about $50 cheaper. So my car decided to die. That's fine. It's a 92 cavalier with a ton of miles. It was it's time. I was prepared emotionally (not really financially) but, whatever. Such is life. Of course my car decides to die as I'm leaving work. Of course. I get the thing towed to the nearest gas station, Gomez Shell on Damen and Division. The mechanic calls me the next day, like he said he would, and told me what was wrong. He was honest about the cost and honest about the fact that the car wsan't worth the repair. I sold it to a junker instead of opting for the repair. I wish I could give these guys 5 stars but the repair never happened. However, they seem very honest. The mechanics were very nice. I've had planty of fast ones pulled on me by mechanics in the past but these guys seemed to be on the straight and narrow. If ever in the neighborhood with a car problem I would go back. read more

I have had my car repaired here twice once in 2010 for alternator and just recent in 2012 - And I will say the service is SUPERB - I originally went in for my wheel bearings to be replaced but my carburators went bad ..So I had them replaced I did not tell the mechanic about my bearings He told me he had to take the car for a test ride to see if carbs worked well - JAVIER LUNA is the best Auto Technician in Wicker Park bar none If there was a local award I would place my vote for him read more

I came here because I was in need of some band-aids. It was $5.84 for the largest assortment they had. Why buy band-aids at a gas station you may ask? I fell down the stairs at the Damen Blue Line. If you need your car worked on, the people here do a good job and they're really nice. As far as pricing goes, my brother got his car fixed a few years back, so 1) I don't remember what they charged, and 2) prices have gone up on some level, I'm sure. As far as gas goes, though...which is the MAIN service of a gas station...this place is majorly over-priced. There really is nothing else I can say or need to say. It's just over-priced. There are places in every which direction b/w a 2 and 5 minute drive of Damen & Division that are cheaper. read more

I would not recommend going to this place! As a young female, I originally had a decent experience at Gomez Shell, when my alternator died everyone there was friendly and accommodating to help me get my car fixed right away. It was not until almost 8 months later now that I have found out they were a terrible choice to go to. They ended up putting a USED alternator in my car without telling me. When I had to get my alternator replaced again 8 months after I originally got it "fixed" at Gomez Shell the new mechanic told me that it looked like my alternator was taken from a junkyard and thrown in my car! Gomez Shell charged me more for putting in the used alternator than it cost me to put in a brand new alternator! Definitely don't go to this place if you don't want to risk having to get your car fixed again for the same reason a few months later. read more

Javier is the shiznit of mechanics! He's incredibly good at what he does, and he's extremely honest leaving no surprises at check-out. One of my friends recommended me to him and now I pass the torch to you. You won't find a better mechanic for your car... no matter the make. I had a 1992 BMW 545 and he was able to fix it every time (which was often considering the year). I never felt not one ounce of worry that I was getting jipped. read more

I've been taking my cars here for about 9 years. These guys are the most honest and the nicest guys you'll meet. I typically deal with Javier. I keep telling him it's time to get rid of the '94 ford Escort and get myself a new car-- "no, Robert, this baby will keep running.." and it does. He keeps my car running and the odometer has flipped twice- I'm at over 200k miles. They treat my girlfriend with the same respect they've given me all these years. Yeah, you might find some cheaper gas- but Service is the key to a great business model. They stand by their work and they get things done when promised. read more

This was my go to gas station, for filling up and snacks, over the Citgo a few blocks away. But the employee, David (his shirt read), changed that. He was clearly bothered when I asked for a bag for the chips and candy I bought. So he tossed it on top of my snacks and said he doesn't bag the items. It's the little things David, that will now make me stop at Citgo instead. read more

DO NOT GO HERE WITHOUT READING THIS POST. I went to Gomez after reading the great reviews on Yelp and other websites. I went there to have a very simple service station procedure done. I picked up my car and left, but when I got home I noticed a sizeable dent over my wheel well. When I returned to confront them, the owner told me they had seen another patron hit my car, had gotten his insurance information, but then decided not tell me about it when I went to get my car. (I had a large scratch down the side already from a CTA bus and it seems they were hoping I would not notice the large dent!) The dishonesty was surprising and strange. While the accident was not 100% their fault, it was disappointing to see them try to cover for another customer over me instead of just telling me the truth. I would seriously warn anyone considering going to Gomez to think twice. read more

The guy working overnight just tried to overcharge me for cigarettes. I come here multiple times a week so I know the price. This is the third time I attempted to buy cigarettes and the same person has tried to overcharge me and I called him out on it. I told him to ring it up to prove to me and he wouldn't do it. I hope management knows that someone is ripping off their customers at nights or takin advantage of drunk people since he tried to do it to me. read more
