Older equipment though there is a variety of machines. I'm just not sure it's worth the cost every month for older equipment.

I selfishly hesitate to write a review because I don't want this gym to get overcrowded... :)…read more Nonetheless, for those looking to join a new gym or switch gyms, Retro is the best choice. I switched to Retro from BZ, having also attended Gold's, LA Fitness, and a few smaller gyms in Berks County in the past (including the colleges' fitness spots). The facility is better all around: it's cleaner, more up-to-date, has better ventilation, better equipment, and better showers/locker rooms. If I'm being picky, the only changes I would make would be to add an additional mirror in the Group X room and raise the placement of toilet paper dispensers in the bathrooms (they're very low if you're tall). But really, that's all I've got by way of constructive criticism! Staff is friendly and they remember your name. (And if you're reading this, Retro staff: Claire is a pseudonym.) To be particular: Janet is an awesome group fitness director and the classes reflect that. I also love that I can sign up for classes online: it guarantees me a spot in class and helps me feel that I cannot skip the gym because I treat it like a scheduled appointment not to be missed. Retro also has a smoothie bar, tanning, and better hours than most of the other gyms in the area. Biggest plus: Retro is far more affordable than just about any other facility. It's friendly to your wallet. My husband and I are both very happy with our decision to switch to Retro.

After being there for years because they had day care, I moved and was told I had to pay a cancelation fee. Way to make moving even more expensive.

It doesn't matter what level of athleticism you are coming in at, as there are modifications for all the moves without judgement. The coaches take the time before each workout to go over correct form and answer any questions. I am getting in the best shape of my life and it's all thanks to CrossFit Rhythm! great facility and great people!

I was extremely tired of going to gyms like LA Fitness, and wanted to find a welcoming place that…read morewould offer more than a standard gym. Well, CrossFit Rhythm is definitely NOT that type of business. Don't be fooled by their pleasant demeanor when you first walk through that door. Like any other business, they're always eager to get new members. But they're seemingly unwilling to put in that little effort to maintain their membership. And it shows. There were weeks where the gym (a small room with poor air circulation, IMO) would be inundated with new members, but they always disappeared, and so there were weeks where I was the only one that showed up for the class. You might wonder why that is, but once you get to know the owners you won't be surprised. The owners are less than professional, spewing their political opinions and racist views for anyone to hear. The so called "coach" barely pays attention to your form and technique during the workouts after the first couple of weeks. So if you ever do have improper form, you will most likely injure yourself as a result. You might think it'd be easy to ask him to re-demonstrate an exercise for you, but be warned it comes with a load of judgement and disapproval that you haven't already mastered it--because you know, all I think about is CrossFit 24/7. Now back to the gym itself. It is an enclosed room that can comfortably fit approx. 10 people; has zero to poor air circulation so even if you don't think you have asthma, you could very well experience an asthma attack; has 2 floor fans that are mainly decorative because the more "dedicated" members enjoy the suffocating heat. You'll think to yourself, that's ok, I'll just stay hydrated throughout and after the workout. Just make sure you bring your own water because there is no water fountain, so you'll be told by the lovely management that you can drink the pristine tap water or purchase a bottle of water that has to be securely locked in their fridge. I highly advise that you find a gym that isn't operated unprofessionally by people that do not give a damn about your well-being, and one with owners slightly more empathetic than a rock.
