I rarely write reviews, but Chris Welton is worth writing one for. I've been a member at the Culpeper Golds before Chris was the manager. The previous managers were fine but Chris is exceptional, he goes above and beyond to help whatever the need. He is fair and professional. He is an asset to the company. At a time where laziness and unprofessipnalism is at an all time high it is refreshing to interact with someone who exhibits the opposite of those characteristics. This gym is amazing. Full gym, tons of equipment, endless classes, yoga, etc. there is an amazing lady's only portion of the gym as well that I love. The BEST PART is the child care. Rebecca is amazing. My child begs to go to the gym every morning and literally cries when we have to leave. He loves it. It's clean, it's perfect. EDIT: Rebecca is still great but no one else is. This place is a huge disappointment after you peel the layers back. Tons of Illness to get too. Every-time we go we end up sick for a week with a head cold or stomach bug despite cleaning machines and washing hands. My son gets the funk from the child care center every time. I've been so focused on helping people this past year with meeting their weight loss goals, writing up kettlebell workouts, my business then on top of that homeschooling, self education, everyday mom life, I'll be quiet honest.. started to get pretty overwhelmed. I had no more time for my own home workouts or energy left to finish the day and be a happy person. I needed a change, get away from the house. That's when I started researching gyms near me that have day care. Despite 3 star yelp reviews on this location I still wanted to go in and take a good look at myself. Im so happy I did. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this place. Folks that left negative reviews about membership- don't y'all read fine print before signing? Everything is clearly printed. When shopping around for a gym, Always ask about cancellation fines and other fees that go with closing your membership. Most gyms have some type of a fine. Gym equipment out dated? no, they are not. Golds gym has a great selection on all of their equipment, from fancy to standard to old school machines. You choose what suits you best. Place is nice and clean, they do a pretty great job with cleanliness. Staff is friendly and super helpful. Their kids zone sealed the deal for me. The ladies that run that place are AWESOME! My kiddos love it. They do projects, kids fit, games, music... you name it, they do it! My kids can't wait to go back every day. (Motivates me to get out of the house even more) Love Antonio (manager) he goes above and beyond with helping people. Very friendly and a good listener. John, one of the trainers, is full of knowledge and motivation. Before signing up for golds membership I told myself I won't get a trainer due to already loosing 50lb (and having massive followers on Instagram for kettlebell workouts with weight loss program, I was pretty much settled in my comfort zone) but then came John who is full of enthusiasm, motivation and knowledge. It was nice to finally get someone who could push me for a change. While it's true that a personal trainer should have your best interest at heart, they cannot make you go to the gym. They are there to put the wheels in motion, support you, and help you reach your fitness goals. How often you go to the gym and the effort you put into your workouts is entirely up to you. When you sign up, you get a free 1 hr meeting with a trainer. Ask as many questions as possible on how to use some of the machines, what work outs are best to reach your goals, diets ect. They are there to help and guide you. The most important thing is to try and inspire people so they can be great in whatever they want to do. that's exactly what staff at golds gym do. The only changes I would do to this gym is replace all shower heads in the showers. They are painful. Oh and maybe build a pool :D ? High monthly dues compared to other gyms with more amenities and more hours available to members. The staff showed no interest in helping me avoid fees, like cancellation due to relocation, billing change, initiation fees when I added my wife and child. Childcare hours were strange, often times had to adjust other things on my schedule to be able to use the childcare I paid for which was an inconvenience for me. Overall of any gym I have been to, I have had the worst experience here. I recently moved back to Manassas and pay 10$ less a month for my membership at LA fitness for more amenities and equipment, and better hours. They also waived the fees for signing up, culpeper golds honestly only seemed interested in capitalizing off being the only gym in culpeper and definitely take every chance they get to charge you every dollar and fee possible. Also, I get charged 50$ for moving and having to cancel AND will get billed next months dues because apparently it takes 30 days to cancel my membership. read more

If I could give them less stars I would. When I tried to cancel my membership during covid in April 2020, they demanded that I come in and sign cancellation forms. I told them that we were in quarantine and they were closed so that was impossible. I asked that they accept the verbal cancellation and offered to pay for another 30 days. They then also charged the $56 bi-annual fee as well as the months membership. I then block my card from further charges from the bank. Bear in mind I had been a member for over 2 years and had fulfilled my contractual agreement. They sent me to collections where it sits on my credit to this day. $118 dollars. For what? They are money grabbers and don't care about your health or we'll being at all. There were so many ways this could have been handled better. They are overpriced and they are terrible people. I would not recommend golds gym for anyone. For the past three years they've been overcharging me or charging me for things that I haven't ever used light tanning and I've had to get over 20 money reimbursements because of this. For the past two years I've been trying to cancel my membership but they've always come up with some shit that didn't make sense and it is the hardest thing I've ever had to do is try to cancel this membership and I still haven't been able too. It is absolutely ridiculous and I will never recommend golds gym for anyone. read more

I'm not a member here, but I worked out with a friend several times. It's smaller than most Gold's Gyms, but I guess it does the trick for Culpeper. Would've liked a bigger weight room and more space for stretching or floor exercise. This location co-sponsors local 5k races, too so that's always fun for members. read more

This gym is a scam. I signed a contract specifically ending in August 2020. When I went to not renew my contract, they said I agreed to 12 months and I owed multiple more months due to COVID. Nothing in the contract says 12 months. I pointed this out multiple times to multiple people, and I now receive no response and continue to be charged. Don't waste your money here. Can't wait to see them go down to Planet Fitness. read more

Recently joined... I love love the Theater room. I'm a plus size lady trying to get fit and don't like to be in front of everyone. The theater room has lots of cardio equipment it's colder, dark and you get to watch a movie or listen to music. The kids Zone is super clean. My stay at home son loves it! They are very patient with him as he's learning to play with others. They have an old school scale (I just prefer digital). Locker room is big and clean. They have a bulletin board in there to keep you updated. My husband loves the free weight room. read more

I like working out here for the most part. It always seems very clean and that's important to me. The equipment, specifically in the ladies gold's leaves a lot to be desired but the theater room is nice. I love that they have a sauna and when it works and gets hot enough, it's a great way to end a work out. I've tried going into it to crank up the temp before I work out and hope it heats up, it doesn't usually and that's gotten very frustrating. Overall I like the convenience and the prices are better than the Powell center down the street but wish they would upgrade the sauna and ladies gold's. read more

There's really only two things to say about this location. It's overpriced and the equipment is outdated. Powell Wellness Center Health & Fitness is far superior. This isn't quite in Northern VA metro area, but it's close enough. I'm used to have my own personal TV in the machine that I can change the channel to and hook up some ear phones to. I hate working out, so the personal TV is a great way to take my mind off the fact that I hate working out. An even bigger sin, is that some of the machines (exercise bike for example) don't even have any exercise program settings. I'm used to being able to hit one button and it has a warm-up, cool down, and a mid section. Not so w/ Gold's Gym. The belt on the treadmill I was walking on skipped and I just about nearly fell off the damn machine! I also didn't see any child care options. Yes, a lot of gyms in Northern VA have a daycare! I just feel for what they charge, there isn't enough options, the place looks & feels old and the equipment is not up to par. read more

This is a nice gym with a great deal of amenities. They have a cardio cinema, where you can get lost in a movie while exercising. There are 3 studios to host exercise classes, which are all unique & expertly executed with flare and fun! The ladies only section is very tranquil (if you need tranquil in a gym). Mixed feelings about this place Pros: -Clean -Staff very friendly -Good selection/variety of classes -Really neat kids zone -Reasonably/competitively priced -Helpful/up-to-date website Cons -"Neighborhood" (strip mall) doesn't feel safe -Extremely overcrowded classes -Childcare ends within 15 minutes of classes (not enough time for a decent shower) -Loud atmosphere (and why in the world do we need a tv blaring in the locker room?) Things I didn't like that are just my preferences: -I was underwhelmed by the "lady golds". Not much in there. Frankly, I think that kind of space is lame anyway. -I didn't like seeing a scale in the locker room. I know lots of places have them. I just think it contributes to the wrong approach to fitness. Health is not about a number. -I don't like the windows where anyone outside can watch everything inside. Makes it feel like a zoo. -I wish there were more mirrors. First and foremost the staff is excellent, and informative to say the least. They have the knowledge and the drive to get you where you need to be, not to mention state of the art equipment to get it done. The trainer I have is awesome, sends me texts regularly to check up on my progress and nutrition. The child care here is top notch for sure. Our kids are always happy and well supervised. Honestly the gym is really nice and so is the equipment. Staff was very friendly. However, be careful in signing up for a membership. They literally will refuse to let you go unless you become disabled or "permanently" move... which you'd think a copy of your signed lease would be enough, right? Nope. Trying to get out of this membership is like trying to break up with a codependent boyfriend who refuses to let you go. Seriously, gold's, you're smothering me. I have been a Gold's member for years.... I have been a Culpeper Gold's member for over a year. The staff is great, and the facility is immaculate. I never take any classes as I primarily lift and do cardio - All of the gear is working, maintained, and clean. I have a trainer, and she is the bomb as well!! The staff at Gold's has always been very nice to work with. The gym has a core of members who are there every day and it seems to be growing in terms of membership because there are alot more people than when I had started working out here. The equipment is well maintained and the equipment you are looking for is usually availalbe when you need it. The main problem I'd have here is that there is not a pool, which unfortunately is becoming a bigger deal for me. For the price of membership, this is a great gym. read more

So I joined! That was step one. I met with Chris the manager, he was very helpful and his customer service skills are on point. I felt very comfortable joining after speaking with him. I haven't worked out in two years so this is like starting all over again. They have so many machines to work with that I never find myself waiting for one. Soooo many options. There machines seem all in great working order and they are newer. There is also a separate ladies work out room with pretty much all the machines I need. The locker room and showers are immaculate, and provide the privacy I need when taking a shower. I go in the morning and it's far from being crowded. The best part is my daughter loves the kids zone. She is far from trusting and when she went there the first time she walked in and just played like she had been there many times, she loves it. The staff that watches the kids are really nice, and the area is clean. My daughter actually gets upset when we have to go. So for me this is a huge deal. There are many classes and times to choose from, so I'm pretty happy with my choice all around with joining this Golds Gym read more

I have been a member of Gold's Gym Culpeper for about a year now. They have a very friendly staff and plenty of equipment available including the normal free-weights, squat racks, and machines for weight lifting. They have a ton of cardio equipment including a cardio area where they play movies on a theater screen while you work out. There's a section dedicated to women only, and lots of classes. I have worked out at all times of the day including "prime-time" (4pm-6pm) and have never had to wait for cardio equipment. I have also taken advantage of the personal training available here with my trainer Damon Vargason and it has been life changing. In about 5 months time I went from a pudgy 215 lbs. with around 25% body fat to a lean and strong 175 lbs. at around 10 percent body fat. Again Im stronger than I ever thought possible for myself. If you live in the area and are looking for a great gym there is no question that Golds is the best in the area. read more
