I have been a member of the Gold's in Crofton, MD for two years and have been more than happy with facilities, staff and overall experience at the gym. I wanted to specifically highlight a situation that took place a couple weeks ago where my car keys were inadvertently locked within one of the lockers up front. I've been going to golds for about 2 years , I really like it ! I rarely have to wait for a machine unless It's at a peak time, even then not very long! The vibe in the gym is really good I think that's Important! Lots of different kinds of people beginners , pro bodybuilders and everything inbetween working For one goal , better health! I have never felt like I'm being Judged! Equipment breaks in all gyms , if Something is broken it doesn't say that way Long,I haven't had many issues with broken Equipment . In the time I've been there maybe 3 times , But there is always another machine that Does the same thing. I recommend this gym to my friends, and to anybody looking for a gym Thanks! The Gym was good. The problem I have is trying to quit. My roommate had told me a story of his nightmare to remove his ex from his account and the 6 months they continued to bill them, so I was on the lookout for the next month deduction from my bank account. Sure enough, there it was. I just called them and they told me it was their policy to bill the extra month after you cancel. On the paperwork I received when when I canceled it said I was canceled as of 09/01/14, but the guy on the phone claims I can come in still. I don't live over that way anymore, hence the reason I canceled my account with them. He was pretty much like tough luck. How many others have been robbed by them? Is it worth ten bucks to make people hate you? Great Job Golds. I will tell everyone I know about you ripping me off. read more

Great gym to work out with your friends at, a gym accessible to all different types of gym-goers

I've been a member at Golds Gym Crofton for about 4 or 5 years now and its a great gym with decent pricing for whatever type of membership you need. Friendly staff and good personal training. If you get a personal trainer, ask for Danny, he's the best there is. One thing I would say is, they do need to upgrade some of their equipment. I feel like every time i go in there something is broken or out of order. Other than that, its a great gym! I tried LA Fitness for about a month and couldn't stay there. Golds all the way! read more

New owners have taken over. The gym is still dirty and outdated. Included in my membership like mostly anyone else's is I can bring one guest per visit. My fiancé and I go together a lot and he signs in as a guest. Since the change I have noticed that every day that I check in, and he signs in and the front desk employee will hound him to sign up as well. This has never happened in the 4 years that I have been a member here. The first couple of times we brushed it off and said no thank you. But then the other day once again they pushed the membership and I kindly said, this is my spouse we live in the same household so it wouldn't make any sense to buy another membership when I can just bring him as a guest. She apparently did not hear me and I went on to repeat myself for her not once but 3 times and she finally said, "oh I'm sorry I heard you talking but I wasn't listening" I found this to be SO UNPROFESSIONAL and ignorant!!! Come to find out she's actually a front desk manager. Why should I have to pay for two memberships when I have a free guest pass that is included! Why are you pushing memberships so hard when THE GYM IS OVERCAPACITY AS IT IS. I literally couldn't believe that an employee would have the nerve to act in such a manner towards a customer it took everything in me to just walk away and not spazz on her right then and there. This woman should be fired. These new owners really need to re-evaluate what they see as customer service. Once again I have been a member 4 years now! If possible I will be taking this to corporate and canceling the membership as soon as I go sign up somewhere else! And if canceling will be an issue I will just go change my card information! There are plenty of things to like about this gym, the variety of equipment being one of them. Periodically there is a row of machines that are functional but not calibrated correctly (you know you are on a flat surface but the machine is displaying 50% incline). This has been the case for the past several months. Otherwise the maintenance guy does keep things moving along. The manager of this gym is humorless and in my opinion not customer friendly. The desk staff however makes up for this with their helpful attitude and cheerful disposition. I agree with a previous reviewer that I have never received any interaction with the trainers, nor did I ever receive the "free t-shirt" promised when I signed up. I believe they are mostly interested in collecting my payments and sending me on my way. [you would think that their liability insurance would insist they have someone circle from time to time just to ensure someone isn't doing something silly!] I shouldn't have to chase someone down. There are of course your "gym rats" and "old, naked guy in front of a mirror who doesn't care ", but for the most part the other clients are friendly and helpful. Even had someone correct my form in the politest and generous manner possible. So go for the exercise, just don't expect too much from staff [excluding desk staff as I previously stated]. read more

My comments are solely based on the trainers. If you are looking for a knowledgable trainer one who understands how body parts move, AND where they are (Anatomy and Physiology), then LOOK else where. I have watched trainers texting and taking phone calls while their clients are performing exercises incorrectly (very dangerous). Most do not even pay attention to their clients when performing an exercise. Some of the trainers at Gold's--should NOT be training anyone! These trainers have their clients performing the P90X or Cross Fit techniques--poor judgement is being used on folks who are out of shape (i.e., overweight, muscle atrophy). These moves are intense and can be extreme. Before performing any of these exercises, it would be in your best interest to talk to your doctor first. People who do not exercise regularly face an increased risk for low back pain, especially during times when they suddenly have to perform stressful or unfamiliar activities. Exercise is critical for strong muscles and bones. Muscle strength declines as people age. Careful weight training can also be very beneficial for elderly people. If you have not taken care of your muscles; these are NOT the exercises to start out with. The mindset of some trainers is to make you feel the burn, then you know you did something good for your body--BS! That mindset will get you injured! You need to start out slowly with any exercise or cardio program (young and old, no exception). Here's the ugly truth, you wake up one morning thinking your soreness is coming from that great workout you did--think again, it might be coming from a pulled muscle(s), pinched nerve, or muscle tissue damage. Never push yourself beyond your health! A good trainer will evaluate his/her client's performance, step-by-step before moving into anything intense. Some folks will never perform high-energy cardio or extreme exercises, AND that's okay. Taking care of your body is the main reason for going to the gym, not to damage it. If you decide to hire a trainer at Gold's, be smart interview the ones you would like to work with to see who will be a better FIT with helping you achieve YOUR goals. Do not be pressured into someone else's ideas about what is right for you, you are the BOSS. Beware of " so-called" trainers who have ONLY certifications in aerobics and this is their first hands-on job as a trainer. These folks are not sports trainers--most have online training. Every new trainer must start somewhere, you may want to re-think it through before you hire them. Even if the trainer is a master trainer, sometimes these folks have too much of an EGO (both genders display this bad model), which can lead you down the wrong path. Ask for references, a good trainer will be happy to provide that information. While you are at the gym study the trainers and their behavior with their clients. You may be glad you did! I stress this part, because my friend hired one of the head trainers (short male) at this gym, and was injured. Do not let this happen to you. Here 's the ugly truth for trainers. Not all of the trainers at the Crofton location need to be educated and properly trained, "you know who you are" so stop texting, STOP WATCHING TV, stop taking phone calls, stop making phone calls, AND watch your clients. You are responsible with helping them obtain goals, and their safety. It's painful to watch clients performing exercises using bad form because the trainer is not watching. Clients All eyes need to be on you if this is not happening you are wasting your time and money. You have made a commitment to yourself one you should feel proud about. This gym is going down hill fast. If u want to watch tv from parking lot u can what a bonus. If want to not be able to use dumbells for 2 months because there broken and not fixed like the machines here then this is the gym for you. Also if u want to use air filled bubble benches and stuipid smith machines instead of real benches then this is the place. Anytime u start to love anything here it seams to be broke for an extended period of time or they end up getting rid of it for some more equipment that no one wants or uses. read more

I have been a member for over a year and am looking for a new gym. The staff from day one were not knowledgable on what they were offering. I am paying $60 a month for myself and my spouse. The $10 a month offer was offered the following week! The bathrooms/showers are molding. The classes are so full that if you do not get in early and push your way in, then you will not be able to participate. The cinema room is regularly filled with loud people talking. The machines in the cinema room are dusty and if you rub your fingers on certain spots, they are sticky. All around, I have had uncomfortable situations. Rude staff, lack of supplies, cleanliness underpar, billing mistakes, packed areas, and loud/unreasonable behavior from other members. If your child is over age 4, I do not recommend the childcare. I don't recommend it at all, but understand the need to exercise and that the child will survive. Not up to my standards. read more

They ONLY reason it gets 2 stars is the price of membership. The down side of that is management is only concerned about packing us in like sardines. I joined this gym the very first day it opened, and I loved it for many years. I can't stand it now and my husband and I are doing trial memberships at other gyms for double the price. Problem 1: it is packed, ALL the time. I work from home 2 days a week and do a late "lunch" at the gym around 2 or 2:30. It's packed. Really? It used to be empty at that time because it was after the morning and lunch rush and before the after work crowd. Not anymore. I suppose if all you want is a treadmill, you still think its empty at that time, but not if you are there to LIFT. Problem 2: Personal joke between the hubby and I (we are power lifters) is they have a sign painted on the wall talking about how Gold's was created for bodybuilders. Ha! Not anymore. Staff will yell at you if you use chalk in THE POWER RACK! Get this, because the cleaning staff doesn't like cleaning it up. Really? In this economy, you can pay someone to clean it and not complain. Problem 3: Management has misplaced ideas of what the gym needs. The water fountains are always broken, yet an expensive projector was installed to play old Gold's footage. They just installed a new 60" flat screen.....get this....that you can only see from OUTSIDE the gym! Why???? Every new trend is purchased. Bubble benches? WTF are those good for? Falling off and breaking a bone while trying to workout? A trapeze?? So that one or two daring people can use it?? How about 2 or three more cages?? There is always a wait on the ONE cage. Gee, that means a lot of people use it. It doesn't just look cute. Towels....it's a 50/50 shot they will have them. Do you not realize you need more if you only have them for 50% of the people who want them? Problem 4: The clientele, total lack of gym etiquette, and management's complete lack of care/concern. You have a 50/50 shot of finding matching dumb bells. Why? Because someone brought it to another area and never returned it. Oh, you will also trip over said db and break your ankle because it was left in the middle of the floor. Any time of day or night, all bench presses look like they are in use (same with the leg presses, hammer strength machines, squat racks...). Why? Because no one unloads their plates and management doesnt care. A guy walked away and was finished with (my hubby asked him) the leg press today, loaded with 630lbs!! I mean, that's light weight for my hubby and I would only need to remove 2 plates, but what about the general fitness people who go in there to press 180 lbs? Suck it...unload it yourself. And the people using the leg room for stuff that can be done anywhere but they chose to do it one the preciously limited equipment. Hello curler in the squat rack. Hello idiot doing pull-ups in the cage. Hello guy doing cleans....in front of....not even in, the cage. Problem 5: The trainers. Why are they teaching everyone to (improperly) do clean and jerks!? They should not be hopping while doing it. Why are they having people do lunges all over the gym? Go in the aerobics studio or do stationary lunges! Why are they having people do step ups on the bench press? My are they having people run up and down the stairs? Go to a football stadium! I, sure I could come up with a lot more if my fingers weren't tired from typing. Bottom line, don't join. read more

Extremely poor customer service. One of the sound on the channels of the TV was broken for about a month, and I repeatedly told them it was broken. Management is extremely rude when I come to them with concerns or problems that are their fault. Don't join this gym! It's dirty, machines are not fixed in a timely manner and the employees don't care about you if you're over 35 years old and the place is infested with rude millennials. The management is horrible. In trying to contact anyone there, they are never available, do not return calls and or emails. Also in a habit of charging your account more that what is owed. Working in management and in the service industry I would not be this inconsiderate to anyone. Choose wisely before you make a poor mistake and have to deal with someone higher up. read more

During the cooler months the gym is better. At any given time I would not give it more than 4 stars though. They take a long time to have equipment fixed and only have one of some machines. If it is hotter than 80 degree outside you might as well work out outside because it gets HOT in the gym! read more

Joined while I was living in Crofton temporarily, had been a member many years before. The people are nice, if I noticed a piece of equipment was broken it was fixed very quickly, clean, etc. Also, when I moved to DC they were very easy to deal with to cancel my membership early. The monthly fee is extremely reasonable to what I am about to pay for a new gym membership in the city (Over 3 times the amount) because they don't have a location near where I am living in DC.....to anyone at Golds listening, please create competition for the WSC in Columbia Heights, I am joining an expensive gym within close driving distance b/c of the complaints about the WSC. People in CH are wanting a good clean gym with nice employees to go to that won't break the bank. read more

I figure most folks know what's inside a Gold's Gym but I am writing this about how they handle a customer situation. A family member had allowed some fees to accumulate while they were busy with other things and just plain got behind. I stepped in and contacted the gym to see if I could help sort it out. When I called the location and explained the situation the person on the phone was very helpful and I decided to visit the location because not everything I wanted to do was available over the phone. When I visited the gym I was greeted by another person and then a third person was able to help me sort everything out. I am writing this because not just one, but all three of these representatives were very pleasant and helpful and I was able to find a solution that was better than I expected. I have never lifted a weight in a Gold's Gym but I highly recommend any business that has great customer service. This one does. read more

This place used to be nice when I first signed up back in 2011-2012. I'm not sure what has happened but its gone down hill. The equipment there is old and out dated. A lot of the stuff there is broken and needs to be replaced. They added a new electronic system where you scan your card to sign into classes. Those screens attached to the scanner do not look cheap. Instead of those, they could have bought new flat, incline, decline benches, t-bar row, shoulder press, squat racks and treadmills. I've considered leaving but LA fitness up the street is too expensive. Guess I'm stuck. They shouldn't charge that $39.99 yearly up keep fee when they do not use it to up keep anything. The GM said he added new equipment on his wish list and sent it to the owner. They won't buy anything. From a business stand point, they're marketing toward the women (nothing against women at all) and classes. They do change the flooring every year though... The bathroom is disgusting, it constantly smells of crap. The sauna is disgusting as well. I will never ever shower there. They could at least change the toilet seats white has the finish peeling and dried poop stains... Always wash your hands before leaving... read more

My friend put me on their membership for a month trial to see if I liked it. After that month the gym somehow started my own membership for me without my knowledge or consent. I received bills for 4 months of membership that I did not want or use. Once I finally got this taken care of, they sent those bills to a collection agency.
