The machines were all in good working condition, and I really liked using the Nautilus equipment. The gym itself is solid and well maintained. However, having to pay for parking just to work out was a downside. If parking were free for members, this would easily be a 4-star gym. read more

I usually don't bother writing negative reviews I prefer to highlight positive experiences. But in this case, the situation genuinely calls for it. The equipment is worn out. The benches are cracked and in terrible shape. I was told the downtown location is "last on the list" to receive updated equipment all while being charged a semi-annual maintenance fee. I still don't know if that explanation is even accurate. The bathrooms are dirty. Validated parking is advertised, but not reliable. I got stuck several times because the gate wouldn't open allowing me to leave even when it was during a window that should have been free. I once got stuck in the parking garage for 30 minutes because there were a line of cars unable to validate which made me late to work. Despite multiple calls and emails, no one responded until much later, and only was a solution offered when I was fed up enough to cancel. They say they are a separate entity of the garage and don't take responsibility for it! There's more I could list, but ultimately these were my personal experiences. Based on that, I wouldn't recommend locking yourself into a contract here. I didn't feel like my concerns were taken seriously and it was like pulling teeth to get a call back for anything and all of this combined is what led me to cancel. read more

Just moved here. Joined due to being close to my home. Got up early one morning and walked to the gym. It "opens" at 5 am.. got there at 5:45 and the door was still locked with people standing outside. No one was there to open the gym. There were several people standing outside, and someone had said this has happened several times before. I would not recommend signing up to this gym and going elsewhere. The equipment isn't that great, the parking sucks, you have to pay for parking, and the restrooms are gross. I would give it 0/5 stars if I could. read more

Good to go to this gym!!!! I saw many reviews of this gym which were quite negative. I always enjoy Golds Gym, so despite the reviews I came anyways. Glad I did! Yes, staff is SUPERIOR and friendly and helpful. The gym was quite clean, not busy, good machines. Yes, it's a bit smaller than what I like with fewer machines than I was accustomed with Golds, but as a visitor it was great!! I'll come back when I visit next. read more

It's unfortunate what happened to the Gold's downtown and Hixson locations. Up until 2023 [the downtown location especially] had great staff and I'd always leave the gym in a great mood just from the vibe. Both of these locations got new managers in 2024 and they're both very rude the few times I've had to take care of issues with them. I assume they're making close to minimum wage because their customer service is terrible. The Shallowford location is the only decent Gold's left in the area. At least there's still a guy at the front desk who enjoys being there. All these 3 Gold's aren't that clean and have old equipment, but it's a decent place to workout and by far the cheapest. But the staff are so bad now that I'll probably join another gym for double price just to not feel bad about giving these guys my money. read more

Worst place ever. -Chattanooga downtown location. Ever since the new management took over the place is absolutely DISCUSTING. I spent thousands of dollars in personal training in 2019 when I was preping for my first body building conditions. Went to cancel my membership (which I have had with them for years) and was advised there was a $15 cancelation fee. Management came over and changed that to a 30 day oitce few but WOULD NOT Provide any of he requested paperwork I asked showing me where I had agreed. I have NEVER received such RUDE and poor service. Good thing..... I am so relived to be finished with this company. I've been to gyms all over and this gym is def suffering from upper management/owner problems. Staff at front is awesome I will say!!!! The gym is literally falling apart, equipment is very old, leaks in ceiling, a/c doesn't seem to work, even the basic attachments for cables are falling apart. The gym needs a full renovation unfortunately which happens when whoever runs it lets it fall apart... this is golds gym, someone needs to take pride it's in operation. read more

This gym is okay. The folks behind the counter are always very friendly, however the gym doesn't offer much for a strength trainer. One squat rack with pins that don't move isn't sufficient, so I rarely visit this location. If that rack is in use, it's waiting, working in or the *gulp* Smith Machine. There is no deadlift platform either. As I do all lifts with a barbell, I can't safely bench here as the pins on the squat rack don't adjust and are too high for benching. The benches they do have don't have pins either, so as I'm at risk of rep failure, I can't bench here. There aren't many good options in town, so the gym is good enough for most stuff, but could be better. read more

One of my favorite gyms I've ever worked out at. I moved away from Chattanooga and needed to cancel my membership as there's no golds near my new home. First I went in and couldn't cancel because a manager wasn't there. So I come back when a manager is there, and he tells me I can't cancel because I'm not the head of the account, and that I need to send a letter to the corporate office in Murfreesboro. I send the letter in December of 2020, a couple months go by and I'm still being charged. So the head of our account drove 45 minutes to the closest golds gym, and cancels the membership. We are still being charged for half of what we were paying. Now I'm being told they were separate accounts and that whoever set the account up must have mislead us. They refused to refund me for the past 2 months since canceling the "first" membership. And want to charge me for 2 more months! Unless I have a picture of me sending the letter, which is unheard of, that is the only way I can get refunded. I took this picture in November of 2020, when I was told I couldn't cancel because I wasn't the head of the account. These people are pathetic, they take no responsibility when it comes to misleading us and stealing our money. read more

This was my first time coming here while I was in town since I'm not from here, and this by far is one of the best gyms that I have been to in a long time! The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and they got me signed it fast and painless! As a bodybuilder I have to eat often and they let me use their microwave without any issues or questions. Gym is also near the aquarium which is where I walked to after. Tanner smith is who assisted me along with the other gentleman working the front (didn't get him name) and they were great! I'm not sure what people are expecting when you only pay $10 a month? The staff is always friendly and helpful, the locker rooms are clean enough and you don't have to wear a mask while working out which is GREAT and completely logical. They have everything you need equipment wise and it's about as new as any other gym you would go to. Having just moved from California I cannot believe what a deal this gym is for what you get. We stopped in to the gym for information about a silver sneakers account. When we walked into the gym we were not acknowledged at all because the man who seemed to be the manager was too busy to offer his assistance while he was at the front desk. We toured the gym with out assistance until a lady named Andrea introduced her self. Andrea took it upon her self to give us the information about the facility, the silver sneakers program, finished showing us the gym and kindly gave us parking directions. Honestly if it wasn't for how kind Andrea was I wouldn't even be comfortable leaving the one star. read more

The staff, particularly Andrea and the young morning manager (whose name I forget), are all very helpful. The swimming pool is immaculate, as is the dressing room, showers, etc. I've been going to Gold's Hixson since it opened and now use the downtown location for convenience. I find the weight machines to be more ergonomic than Sports Barn. read more

This might have been a 4 or 5, but after paying the $15 drop in fee (which I expected), I went to leave the parking garage and found that my supposedly validated ticket did not work. After two trips back into the gym, the manager told me that it was only good before 8 am and after 5:30 pm. This would have been nice to know when I asked about parking when I first arrived. The person working the desk said he had validated my $10 parking fee, but this was obviously not the case. Taking a direct quote from the manager "we have a copy of our parking rules around here somewhere....". I was only visiting so no help to me now. read more

Might as well be called Planet Fitness. The 'rules' included no grunting, do not drop your weights, etc. Which is fine... at PF. This is supposed to be Gold's Gym. A bodybuilder's gym. Far cry from it. Their free wight section was sad. A single squat rack, 2 benches. This is a nice facility, it's just overrun by cardio equipment and strength machines. Definitely directed at the more casual lifter. I used a VIP pass that I signed up for online, and the guy tried to charge me $15 since I was not a 'local'. read more

I travel for work all over the country and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a gym. Firstly the gym itself is small, crowded, and geared towards casual fitness and not weight training as every other Gold's gym I have ever been to has been. Like the other reviewer, it reminds me of a small planet fitness. Secondly as I stated I travel for work so I only needed the membership for a week. They associate told me that I had to sign up for 2 weeks minimum (not a big deal as I have had to do this before) and that at the end of the two weeks my membership would be cancelled. It has been 3 months and I just noticed on my account statement that they have been charging me every two weeks. I called them and was informed that it was basically my fault for not cancelling it after the two weeks even after the associate told me that it would be done automatically. This place is a rip off and I will never go to another Gold's gym. I really hope that extra 2 1/2 months of membership dues was worth losing a customer and anyone I know.
