I had a great experience exploring the area and came across this jewelry shop. We've been on the hunt for wedding bands and every place we go we must check out the rings. They had such unique leaves and I fell in love with a ring that was very unique. Customer service was great and the lady really helped us learn more about the designer and I was able to try different rings that would pair nicely. We didn't buy anything that day but look forward to coming back again and possibly getting my ring from here. read more

Sad that the customer service has declined over the years and the and warm and inviting shopping experience no longer exists. I've been shopping at the Golden Whale for over 20 years, always stopping in while in Cannon Beach because they have a large selection of both high end and artisan jewelry and affordable fashion jewelry. I've purchased several pieces of each. My visits have waned because of the service, which often feels like it's a bother to wait on me, show me pieces, and basically have me or anyone in the store. Not sure if the woman is also the owner, which explains why even after dozens of reviews describing the poor customer service it continues. The Golden Whale is the best jewelry store on the Oregon Coast. During our annual beach vacation with my 3 adult daughters, one of our favorite activities is to visit this shop and buy a piece of jewelry to keep as a memory of our trip. I had to go on Yelp after how poorly I had been treated in this store today and was surprised to see all the bad reviews. The woman behind the counter was very short to a really nice group of women. When I asked a question it felt like I was bothering her, and I said sorry to bother you as I left the store. We also went in yesterday and it was totally great experience with two different ladies. One was younger and took the time to answer my questions. I won't step foot in again. This is not the way to run a business. read more

Bought a unique, edgy, metal/silver raven necklace here from a local artist today, and was so happy to find it. The windows showcased the store's most unique pieces (dinosaurs, ravens, dragons, rabbits, etc), whereas the inside of the store had more traditional jewelry. I had seen some negative reviews about a different staff member online, but I had Zoe today as my salesperson and she was friendly and great. Super helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another piece here. read more

My husband and I found this shop on one of our many visits to Cannon Beach. The first time we went in the lady was SO incredibly helpful and nice to us. With her help, we purchased 2 sets of earrings that I still wear to this day. They have a special meaning to me now. In addition, they are such great quality they don't irritate my skin which is unusual for me. This shop sells something for everyone - whether you want traditional, modern, or something in between. And their prices are reasonable for the outstanding quality you get. Anyway, I went back to this shop this past Thursday and while the ladies weren't quite as helpful as before, it was actually nice to be left alone while I browsed all the pieces at my leisure. They had a lot of gorgeous pieces to look at! I don't need help admiring beauty. This is #1 my favorite shop to visit while at Cannon Beach! read more

I love jewelry and the selection of jewelry at Golden Whale is wonderful. The customer service is terrible! I visited last October and while the store was busy I didn't mind waiting. The older saleswoman was very abrupt and inpatient with me. I felt as if I needed to apologize for coming into the shop! I've recently become visually impaired and I couldn't see the pendant chain that had slipped under the velvet. The saleswoman snapped at me. It was then that I mentioned her customer service needed improvement. This saleswoman started screaming and then went out the front door and started yelling before abruptly leaving. read more

Hi there! I wandered in today on a rainy day and recently had my ears re-pierced. I was ready to buy a pair of earrings and she got very snippy. I asked if she was okay as she seemed short and not really wanting to help. She commented back why would I dare ask her that. She told me she didn't like me. I left thinking I had done something wrong. At the end of the shopping experience, I just said I would pass on my earrings and walked out in silence as the other younger sales woman was mortified. After looking at all the reviews I feel supported that it was not just me and we all have had very similar experiences. Went here back in November 2021 and had a bad experience. The two old women working seem like they have a vendetta against anyone who walks in, especially Dixie. They're very rude and short no matter how polite you are. My mom bought some earrings and we left, i turned to look back through the window after we walked out and the associate literally bugged out her eyes, made a face and bucked at me through the window? it was the weirdest thing i have ever experienced. Door slammed on me! I entered this store 2 days ago and the only lady there did not greet me or ask if she could help me. I was only me in the store. I asked if I could see the items that were in the store display window and she hissed out "Probably Not" whereas I realized I was not going to be treated like this and left the store, where my hubby was waiting outside. I began to tell him the whole store, when she ran up to the door and looked at me, and slammed the door! I have been to this jewelry store many times over the years, and have bought many items. Though there are some nice pieces, the rude service has always bothered me. I kept thinking it would improve, but today cemented it for me. Though I was the only customer, the older female salesperson never greeted me, nor did she ever give eye contact. She never stopped what she was doing to ask if I needed any help. She was irritable when I asked to look at a ring. The item I wanted had a cracked stone. I asked if she had another, and she coldly said, "No." I asked to see another ring, and again she seemed perturbed to have been interrupted. I asked what type of stone was in the ring. She mumbled something, and I walked out the door. I can't and won't continue to give my money to a consistently horrible merchant. I've been visiting this store for the last (too many to list) years. I have, quite literally, spent thousands of dollars on jewelry from Golden Whale, and I love the wide range of prices, styles and materials. Seriously, until last weekend, this was my favorite jewelry store in Oregon. Now, not so much. Here is a copy of the letter I wrote the establishment, detailing my experience: "Hello, and thanks for reading this. I was in Cannon Beach on Sunday, with my children, and we decided to stop by GW to look for a small birthday present that my daughter could present to her friend this week. When we arrived, I was surprised to see two rather large dogs in the shop, and when I inquired, "Are dogs allowed?" I was met with a comment from the dog owner that, "My girls are both well-behaved and they know to sit on command." That's nice, but he had no understanding of my dog's behavior or temperament, and there was zero response from the sales associate to my question. Odd, and uncomfortable, but we carried on and left my son sitting outside with our dog. This is a very small thing. Upon entering the shop, we received no recognition or greeting from the two associates who were working, despite being the only customers at the time (the dogs and their owners departed before we went in). Again, odd and uncomfortable, but I'm really familiar with the store and happily began browsing. I have been visiting GW for the last 20 years. I am in possession of literally thousands of dollars of jewelry purchases from the shop and I pride myself in being genuinely respectful to retail and services industry workers. I understand that, sometimes, it's just downright painful to even be polite to customers, let alone chatty. So, here comes the best part... I was ready to purchase a new Samuel ring. Seriously ready. I have an 18k yellow gold, pink sapphire and diamond piece that I adore, and I wanted to see about adding another ring in white gold. I had decided this before I entered the shop and set about looking for any options that might be in the display case. When I realized that there were none of the Byzantine style, large jeweled bands with bezel set stones or otherwise, I inquired to the associate that was directly behind the case and right across from me. Here is her response: "I don't know. You have to ask (other person working)." Not an "I'm sorry." Or "Let me find out." Just total flipping dismissal. On top of the lack of greeting and lack of interest in my business, she never even made eye contact when she spoke to me. Guys, seriously? It was so bad that my 16 year old daughter announced, "In that case, we will be taking our business elsewhere." I have NEVER had my children say anything like this, and they are sometimes oblivious. Imagine my embarrassment when my daughter jumped to my defense. Yes, it was that obvious. If you care to respond, that would be fine. I am not looking to have anyone fired, but you really ought to take this seriously and work on the customer service. As it stands right now, you've lost a long-time customer and the associated referrals I've always given when asked about my jewelry." read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE! I worked for Nordstrom for 8 years, I am a gay woman and I know I thing or two about discrimination and bad customer service. I have never in my life been treated so poorly by someone than I did on TWO different occasions in this store. On October 14th I visited this store with my girlfriend and spent $152, buying 5 pieces of jewelry. This was my first encounter with Dixie. The store was very busy this day, Dixie was incredibly short with us, seamed irritated every time I would ask to see a piece of jewelry and all together seamed disinterested in helping us. I didn't say anything then and brushed off the uncomfortable experience. Weeks passed and I still had one of the pieces of jewelry I bought just sitting in the box, It was a bracelet that I hadn't worn. My girlfriend and I had a incredibly long week so we packed up yesterday and headed to the beach, I grabbed the bracelet so I could exchange it. When I walked into the store to do just that I was once again forced to be helped by Dixie as she was the only associate available. I handed her the box and the receipt and let her know I was hoping to return or exchange it. She rudely looked at me and said "so it hasn't been worn?" I told her no, I hadn't even taken it out of the box. She responded with "well I guess you can exchange it". While I'm looking at jewelry I hear her say to the other associate "doesn't this look worn". She comes back and is showing us rings. I ask her to see a diamond band and she was extremely reluctant. I asked her about looking at another one and she said non of them would fit me. We went to pay for two rings. When she told me the total I didn't expect each ring to be over $80. I told her I would only like 1 of them and she rolled her eyes and sighed. After going out to the car and sitting there for 5 minutes being so upset about how rude Dixie was I told my girlfriend I had to go back in and say something. When I went back in I asked for a manager, she said no one was there. I told her that I felt she needed to know she was incredibly rude and made us both feel very uncomfortable, she responded with "well that's your opinion. You came in here and got what you wanted, didn't you?" I asked her if that gave her the right to be rude to me as I am a customer she said "she didn't think she did anything wrong but would be happy to tell the manager." At this point my girlfriend and I could not believe how she was speaking to us. My girlfriend asked her what her name was and she said "non of your business." My girlfriend was so upset and responded to her and said she was being a bitch, which I understand was inappropriate, but then Dixie called my girlfriend a bitch! At this point I was absolutely speechless. I firmly believe this associate was discriminating against me and my girlfriend because we are gay. And honestly, I have never in my life been treated so poorly by someone. I have every last nerve to return everything I have boughten from that store. I will never again return to this store and I cannot believe they would even employ someone so rude, heartless and disrespectful. read more

Stopped by after a late lunch to browse, and found a great selection of sterling silver rings - which is what I was looking for. I specifically was looking for a turquoise ring, and presto! It was also 40% off, so can't pass a good deal. The staff was friendly and acknowledging. read more

This place has a wonderful selection of precious, semi-precious, and silver jewelry. Each time we visit Cannon Beach, this is a must visit shop. Only reason this is not a five star review is because the older lady that works the front of the shop is unfriendly and stuffy. Ironically the pleasant woman that runs the book keeping is the five star service we've received there. I think her name is Teresa but not 100% positive.
