BUYER BEWARE! They may be the more affordable option, but be careful of the quality of the product and the level of service. The frame for one of our shutters almost completely fell off the wall after our cleaning lady was simply dusting the louvers. I called the business and spoke to Evelyn (who was extremely nice btw). She asked me to email her some pictures and then quickly scheduled an installer to come over to diagnose and fix the issue in two days. AWESOME right?! WRONG! A few minutes later, she called back to say that the owner didn't believe the shutters could've separated from the wall like that and they would need to charge me $150 to anchor it back to the wall. 150 bucks? We paid $400 for that single window covering, so somehow nailing it back into the wall would be more than a third of the entire cost. Seems excessive... especially (see photos) when they were just nail gunned to the drywall and not even securely screwed into place. Oh! And if that wasn't enough, after looking at the original receipt, we discovered that they overcharged us $150 when they miscalculated the costs for all the windows. So if you're looking for a shutter company. I would recommend you look elsewhere and for a business that actually stands behind their products, cares a little more for their customers and maybe knows how to work a calculator. read more

Buyers beware and take note of my experience. I want to share my experience in case you are considering shutter from this place. The rating here is reflective of the product quality and the customer service I experienced today and the last 3 weeks. I reached out to GW shutters regarding paint chips and cracks that started several months ago. The shutters were installed in 2014 but I didn't think that I would start to see issues. Based on my experience with shutters in prior homes, shutters should last longer than this. When I first called them, Evelyn responded and immediately said do you have sprinklers where water is coming through the window. My immediate response was "no" because who would let water through the window when their yard is being irrigated? Evelyn said that Dave would reach out the following Monday and two weeks later I still didn't hear back. I reached back out to Evelyn in which she said John or Dave would reach out the next day. I had to reach back out to Evelyn when I didn't hear back for two days. So customer response time can certainly improve here when customer is addressing an issue (vs a purchase) So I finally received a call from John on 11/9. He seemed nice at first but that quickly dissipated. He start out by saying that they don't cover warranty due to moisture damage and from the photos I emailed, he said that they are moisture damage...due to water from Irrigation system or rain. Similar to the response I gave to Evelyn previously, I shared with him that there are no water coming from irrigation(because we have drip irrigation ) and on a rainy day, I would expected normal people would close their window. I also shared with him that most of the windows where I see paint issues are not windows that are ever open. He continued to argue with me that he has no way of validating whether I subject these shutters to moisture and refuse to service these under warranty. In my mind, I was thinking to myself that shutters will also be on windows so he can always refuse any warranty service under the premise that they were exposed to moisture damage. So I am not sure if they would ever stand behind their warranty. Throughout my conversation with John, I was surprised at a number of things that occurred. 1. He discounted everything I said to him and didn't believe me when I said the shutters were never exposed to any moisture. 2. He didn't take any accountability for the fact that the product or paint could have been defective 3. He was very argumentative with me and continue to force the moisture issue on me when I repeatedly told him these windows are never opened...at one point he said that he would hang up on me if I continue to speak. I have never encounter any customer service where they told the customer they would hang up on them. 4. He said that the issues he has seen with paint chips occur near the bottom or edge where the window openings are and where moisture come in contact with the shutter. If that were true, that does not explain the paint chips I am seeing in areas outside of what he describe. 5. I felt he was quick to make judgement when he only saw a snippet of photos I sent vs coming to the house to do a proper assessment. So the simple and short takeaway to this long story is that just be aware of who you would be dealing with down the line when you go through GW shutters. I use Yelp often to make decisions when I look for vendors to use or restaurants to dine at. And I wanted to share my experience today so that readers can benefit from my experience and make informed decision for themselves. My experience with them today was not positive at all. I was going to get shutters done on a second home that I am about to close on, but now I am reconsidering. John said he was headed out to the airport when we spoke and that he will call back in a week when he returns. I would like to see the issue resolved and will reserve further judgement until then. I will modify my review and feedback if things turns out for the better. But the review today is purely based on the interactions I've had so far. read more

We had 3 rooms equipped with the plantation shutters and 6 years later 1 room the blinds are chipped cracking but others are not. We reached out and they said water damage will not help at all. Although the other blinds did not chip or crack. These were inferior materials not water damage as they claim they never even saw in person we wanted to do 10 more windows and they wanted 95.00 just to look at the problem windows they installed! Shame on their lack of craftsmanship product and warranty. In these difficult times you would think a little repair for a potential large follow up order would be the right thing to do. One company had a factory overseas, and the other one did have a local factory, but both quotes were higher than Golden West. All shutters are custom made. I have used them 16 years ago when I bought my first house at La Habra, at that time their quality was great. Back in 2008 when I bought my 2nd house at La Habra Heights, I called them again to install shutters, BIG MISTAKE - their quality went down dramatically, the materials are thin, there seems less layers of paint, won't recommend them again :( Update - they fix my broken shutter and I will use them again. I have been very impressed with the entire process at Golden West Shutters. It started with Dave coming out and educating us on the quality of their locally made product along with an invitation to come in and view the manufacturing facility. Dave was very responsive texting and calling to make sure we didn't have any additional follow up and at the facility he spent quality time with me to go through our options for louvre size, frame selection etc. Once we decided to move forward Dave continued to stay engaged throughout multiple upgrades to our order and I was very happy when just a few weeks after placing the order the majority of the shutters were ready and the installer appointment was made. Meh, good product however the fit no, one 90 degree frame corner didn't meet and was coverd with caulking, the final fit is too slopy for me, large gaps with too much caulking, that never holds up over time and large window sill gaps. I tried two windows the smaller window fit better than the larger. Not impressed with the installer nor having high finish carpentry skills in my opinion. I've tried two companies both with high reviews neither met my expectations. If in the future if I can't order based on my measurements or install shutters myself I will pass on shutters all together. The sayings always applies - little paint a little caulking makes a carpenter what he/they ain't. It all looks good form a distance... however thats not what I like. read more
