This photo was taken on Nov 18 2023, after a light rain in SF. You can clearly see the reflection of the water that sits in in it.

This review is not for their brick and mortar store, but their customer service. Our bedroom window was installed by Golden State Lumber a few years ago. It leaks water into the sill when it rains. I spoke with a someone who works in the sales department at the Brisbane office, who tried to convince me that it is normal for a window to leak water into the sill when it rains. When I asked to speak with his manager, he accused me of "attacking him," and hung up the phone on me. That by itself is troubling. So then I tried contacting the manufacturer of our window (Milgard). Milgard sent a technician to our house and said that there's a bowing in the middle of our window, which is about 1/8in, and it causes water to sit in our sill, instead of running through the weep holes. The Milgard technicians said that this type of problem is due to incorrect installation, not the window itself. So I go back to Golden state lumber and speak with a different salesperson. He hears my story tells me to send him an email with the photos/video of the issue. I sent that email on Nov 22. The salesperson says, that he got the email, but "It might be a hard fix." I have called him back leaving multiple voicemails over the past 3 weeks and no call back or response of any kind. This is some of the worst service I have ever received in my lifetime (I even have Comcast internet). I'm sure that some of their staff are good, but the two I've spoken with are downright terrible. Meanwhile, because our window doesn't drain water after a rain, there is mold growing on our walls.

    Great selection of windows.

This is specifically about their windows and Deborah. She was amazing. So patient and helpful. The showroom had a nice variety of items. Deborah wasn't remotely pushy, she was knowledgeable and gave excellent suggestions. If you need some windows, make sure to give her a call! We have not purchased yet, so don't know about their pricing.

I am a science teacher and I have gone there to get materials for my STEM elective class. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars here over TWENTY PLUS YEARS! I'm a "member " here. Basically they track my spending habits with my phone number. (I guess. Because I've seen no benefit to me from it ). Anyways that ends here and now. I've never been made to feel more unwelcome or unappreciated than I was 45 minutes ago. I work hard. I started my day at 5 am. Midday my trusty Carhartt jacket tore and I spent the rest of my 13.5 hour work day with cold drafts and a plan to come here for a new one. This is after all the same place I'd bought all my other high priced Carhartt gear. Put yourself in my shoes. 5 am start. Off at 6:30pm with a torn jacket. A feeble lunch of whatever it was I had and enough coffee to get me through. Race to the Outdoor supply and walk in the door to be "Greeted" by "You have one minute to shop!' We close at 7!!" (Mutters to coworker. Loud enough for me to hear "I know I know I shoulda locked it !" ). But I look at my watch it's 6:58. So apparently you don't "close at 7" you close a little before that. I'm followed by 2 men that are acting like children telling me "we close soon ! We close soon ! He's closing the register !!" In the MOST WHINY AND PATHETIC way I've ever heard. As I say. "I know I know I was already told. But I NEED A JACKET!" I'm followed to the jackets then I'm told again. "We close soon he's closing the register !!" (Look at my watch. It's 6:59) I find my jacket. It seems to have increased in price nearly double what I remember having paid previously but I'm literally so uncomfortable because I have two grown men and a teenager pacing and acting like they'll all be punished or something terrible will happen in the next 12 seconds. So I quickly find my size jacket. Only to discover that it's literally CHAINED UP!! With a steel cable and padlock ! In MILLBRAE. Not a third world country. Millbrae. Let me be clear. They've chained up the jackets and you can't even try them on!! Then as the three employees pacing around me figure out that they can't annoy me away. They begin to frantically try to unchain my $150 windbreaker while conversing loudly how inconvenient I am and how "he's closing the register !!" (Question ? Does ... like ?? I dunno. A BOMB GO OFF? Does like little Timmy lose a thumb if the register closes at 7:01? ) Cuz by 7:03 as I walk ran to the register in time to see another man shooed out the door with the entire rest of the store staff pacing by the door as If they all need a wee wee and the potty is closed .. the cashier is hurriedly ripping the cash drawer out of the register and trying to leave. Making me wonder what woulda happened if he left my sight ?? Would I have been told in that same whiny tone "sorry. We told you. He. Closed the register .." Seeing me ; his shoulders slump , he turns to the cash drawer and shoves it closed and BEFORE I can even ask "what's the easiest way I can pay and get out of this awkward mess?" He says "card only we're closing ". (Ok. I get that. It's literally all I've heard In the 4 minutes I've been here. ) I (for some reason) give my phone number even tho I already am seething and also oddly feeling guilty like I've somehow ruined 6-7 people's night by being their last customer. I pay and I'm followed out by 2 people. Only hearing my first friendly "thank you " as I walk out. Thinking to myself it felt like "thank you for FINALLY LEAVING !" It was 7:05pm So. I'll say online. Publicly for all to read what I said to her. "I'm sorry I came in .." I mean it. And when I say "I'm sorry. " the man I am means that it won't happen again. So don't worry Outdoor Supply. I won't bother you all again ever with my patronage. I'm sorry.

I said I needed some keys copied and was told the different options to choose from. You honestly can't beat the price they charge too & they work quick! As my keys were being made, I was able to pet and play with their "2nd best worker," Jackson. He was the sweetest doggo (as of today, he's 15 months), i wish i was able to stay and play with him more. As I was paying to leave, Jackson put his head on my foot. Would recommend this hardware store if you are looking for any merchandise for fixing up your house. This is a small business with hard worker owner and staff in a real neighborhood service oriented business. There are not many left. 3. My assumption is that they'll be there for you and if you aren't there for them and think only about the price tag (cost) you are killing the entrepreneurial small businesses. Unfortunately, I called about an item, got the price and availability and arrived between 1-3 mins after the posted closing time and the cashier/worker could/would not make an exception to help me. Maybe it's a store policy with San Francisco being the armpit of retail crime and they need to avoid any potential incidents. Maybe it's the litigious nature of owning a business and making transactions outside of strict operating hours outlined in insurance policies. However, in the humanity of a customer to business relationship, it's disheartening. I know many stores make exceptions. So, my disappointment probably would detour me to Home Depot for my hardware needs unfortunately. Parking is difficult with a lot of speeding vehicles and blind spots as well as Glen Park BART user congestion and traffic along with the supply and demand issue of available street parking lacking makes it a hard place to frequent unless you're a neighboring resident in the community who can walk here.

Since the 2019 lockdowns the current manager seems to be hell-bent on making it the most miserable place to shop on Earth. All the cashiers are gone. Now there are just an array of self checkout kiosks and at least 8 of them are closed at all times just to make sure that you still have to stand in a ridiculous line while some old woman looks over your shoulder to upsell you on a rewards membership. Item doesn't scan? Welp. You'll just get to stand there for half an hour while somebody figures out what to do about it. Need to push a large cart full of drainage pipes to one of those three open self-checkout kiosks? Well surprise, idiot. Mr. Manager Man has decided to put giant display racks in the middle of every aisle making that completely impossible under the best of circumstances. 99% of the time there will also be a waddling gaggle of morbidly obese people obstructing whatever's left of the aisle because they want to look at the moose scented candles or whatever stupid bullshit they're carrying for no apparent reason. Need to find a particular electrical or plumbing fitting? Too bad. Every single box has had its contents thoroughly shuffled with every other box in the store so there's absolutely no chance the fitting you need is anywhere near where it's supposed to be. Asking anyone where they put them just gets you a stoned "Uh, like... What?" from the random idiot wandering around. Entire aisles will be cordoned off for the entire day because someone eventually plans on restocking something. They're not stocking it now and they won't be stocking it in the next hour but it's closed. If you dare walk down it anyway a pimply kid will yell at you and that's like really threatening or something. Just in case you haven't been run off yet, there's also an obnoxiously beeping inventory robot ramming into you from behind and a scam artist from some solar incentive sales ponzi scheme following up shortly thereafter. He got his job on the TikTok. Given what an unbelievable hassle it is just to set foot in this place, you might think that you'll be clever and order whatever you need on their website so they have to go burrowing through their own randomized inventory piles but you'll be screwed there, too, because the website automatically reloads itself at least a dozen times so the search field clears itself out and is absolutely worthless. The actual order pickup process is also every bit as time consuming as it involves a stoner doofus reading numbers on a tag to find your order. The manager needs to be removed so things can get back to their usual degree of mediocrity.
