Im going to begin by saying, the food was not very good. The service was fine, and the sweet old man served me a lot of food. However, the quality was simply not up to standard. I was denied access by an old man sitting in the corner yelling at me with food in his saying "NO DOG"! I explained he was a service dog but then went on a tangent about how it is open food and he isn't allowed in the restaurant. ORDER TYPE: Dine-in MEAL: Dinner MY ORDER EXPERIENCE: Someone nearby told me that this restaurant gives free masks so I had to go to this restaurant and the food that was displayed caught my attention so me and my friends dined in to see what Golden Rice Bowl has got for us. As soon as we stepped into the restaurant, it was pretty much self-explanatory where the menu options are displayed and food is displayed in containers, where you get to pick and choose from it. Then you pay for the food at the counter and it gets served in a box for you to eat at the restaurant or it can be a To-Go. When we were at the restaurant the limit was only 6 people at a time to Dine-in due to Covid restrictions. But, luckily we were able to dine-in as there was only our group. Without any further delay, I ordered Combo One (2 Items) with Vegetable Egg Rolls on the side. There are a variety of dishes that are displayed at the counter where you get to pick and choose. They have varied vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes at the display. But, for my Combo One, I chose the Fried Rice and Vegetable Festival. The Fried Rice was a little bland and had very few eggs and veggies in it and I was expecting for the rice to have more eggs. The Vegetable Festival contained broccoli, zucchini, carrots and cabbage and again it wasn't that great. But, the Vegetable Egg Rolls tasted good and ordered more of it. The food was old, soggy rubbery vegetables, sawdust texture sweet sour chicken, with burnt favored fried rice. The white rice was delicious. Teriyaki chicken and jalapeño chicken was good too. I don't think I would eat there again. The cook was rude to the server but she handled him professionally even though she was embarrassed. No frills, very basic chinese food place right off the road conveniently located close to Monument Valley. The food is quite basic here - the buffet has your staple dishes like General Tso's chicken, beef & green peppers, and fried rice. They also have a "special menu" that includes items such as Ma po tofu. But if you're a vegetarian, your options are extremely limited. You'll find many locals eating at this place. It's conveniently located adjacent to a supermarket so that you have other food options, too. The ambiance is very simple with just a few tables all sitting close to the buffet. You'll also find this restaurant chain present across multiple other indian reservations including Tuba City. If you're dying to have something quick and easy, this is your place. Many things to complain about. The woman working the counter was very rude, as well as the cook/owner. I walk in with my asian mom and uncle, and the server is wearing a mask. (Take note). She asks for our order, and had a snarky attitude. We noticed 2 of the chicken dishes looked similar, so we asked, "why does the orange chicken look like the teriyaki?" To which she interjected, "ITS NOT, IT LOOKS DIFFERENT TO ME!!" Then, we continue ordering our food, pay, and sit down to eat. Halfway through, another customer walked in. She asked reasonable questions, like "which options are vegeterian," "what would you recommend," "do you have any more ___" and the lady answered the first question (haughtily), and then said "i dont know, i dont eat it" lastly, she yelled to the back for the owner. Normal, but then the man yelled at her, "WE CAN MAKE MORE ___, AND SOME OF __, BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE" . The customer thanked them, and left. A few minutes, she returned with her party (she was with lion's club int'l exchange student program (or smth similar) with a large group of older european teens. As soon as they walked in, the server TOOK OFF HER MASK. As the group eventually ordered, the woman still had a kind of miffed attitude. The food: my uncle ordered a 3 item plate w/ chow mein, fried rice, orange chicken, green chile beef, and squash chicken. My mom ordered 2 item plate w/ fried rice, orange chicken, and squash chicken as well I ordered a 3 item plate w/ white rice, broccoli beef, teriyaki chicken, and jalepeño chicken. The prices were ok, but the food wasnt. The noodles were bland, the fried rice was mediocre, and they managed to mess up the steamed white rice. It was dry and almost undercooked. The jalepeño chicken, squash chicken, and green chile beef were okay, but the other dishes had problems. The orange chicken was rubbery and cold, and tasted almost the same as the teriyaki. The broccoli beef had undercooked broccoli, mushy beef, and a almost water-thin sauce. I would never recommend this reastraunt. Kayenta: a random Navajo town on the 160 that caters to visitors making the long trek across Arizona's plain but beautiful landscape. Aside from fast food, the only two restaurants that serve this desolate impoverished wasteland are Amigo Cafe and Golden Rice Bowl. With Amigo Cafe suspiciously closed in the middle of the day, we decided to head over to Golden Rice Bowl, fully prepared to face Chinese food at its worst. Growing up in the SF Bay Area with tons of Chinese friends, I know how excellent Chinese food should taste. Golden Rice Bowl is the complete opposite, and if it was in the Bay Area, I'd give it a much worse rating. However, these guys have to make do with what they have in the middle of the desert. When viewing it that way, Golden Rice Bowl is pretty decent. 2 item combo is the way to go. Orange chicken and black pepper beef with fried rice. The orange chicken is ridiculously breaded but bearable. The rice tastes cheap, but what do you expect? Overall it's not too great, but it's the best you can find in Kayenta. Wikipedia says the city's population is 0.08 Asian (4 people), which is probably the restaurant owner and his family. Props to them for sustaining a business like this in the middle of nowhere. read more

We were driving to the Grand Canyon NP, after visiting the Arches NP and stopped by Kayenta by chance. Decided not to go for nearby McDonald's and Burger King, we opted to try this Chinese Restaurant, even though we understood that the taste would not be even close to the San Francisco Area when I live now. Just have to give it a try. We ordered total 4 different dishes and sour n hot soup, and found out actually the taste were OK. Considering it's located in such a remote place and had so few ingredients to select from, that was a great achievement. I chatted with the chef, and knew that he was the ONLY Chinese in town who was from Taiwan originally. He said some of the unique-to-local ingredients had to be ordered from Los Angeles Area, interesting to know. He was extremely busying at noon, as he had to take care both kitchen and floor issues alone. Thus we did not have chance to talk more, but was really touched by his dedication to maintain such a small restaurant to offer travelers like us to have different choice while we are on road. read more

Perfect meal for quick stop after driving long hours across country. The mid age guy who served us was very friendly and happy. The food was standard Chinese take out fast food, but it's better than junk food. I had chicken with green chilies it was delicious and spicy just the way I like it. Not a bad place to get some good fried rice, and teriyaki chicken. It's kind of hidden in a shopping plaza, but the food was good. I had the rice bowl. It was a great price for the amount of food you get. Also, the noodles were good, not over cooked. Seasoning was on point. Also, tried the egg roll, it had favor, was not soggy, and tasted good. They have many more options, I need to go back and taste the rest, but for what I got the food was good. The drinks are expensive at $2 for a small soda cup. The soups looked delicious. They are priced very low, and seemed to be very popular with the locals. The staff doesn't really talk much. I asked for suggestions, yet only got a shoulder shrug. Lol not big on customer service. Kayenta is a small Navajo town about 18 miles off the Utah border, it's pretty remote, so we knew that the chances of finding a healthy, tasty meal were close to none. And then bam! We stumbled onto this little gem. The Golden Rice Bowl is really a tiny hole in the wall kinda place, but they make their food with absolutely zero MSG. We ordered egg rolls, steamed rice, veggies and Mapo tofu. The spice was delightfully nose clearing, the meal was straightforward and satisfying, we came out full and feeling good. It's surprising to find a Chinese place in a remote town on the Navajo reservation. Yet, here it is! Went for lunch. The food is served similar to Chinese places in a mall- 2 or 3 options with rice or noodles. Most options are chicken based. I had the chicken with mushrooms and the jalapeño chicken. I wouldn't order the jalapeño option again- spice was fine but just one note of flavor- the jalapeño. The mushrooms were seasoned nicely but no (spice) heat, which was fine with me. Well this turns out to be the only restaurant in town that even comes close to having vegan options. I have to tell you, we're glad we ate here. We had steamed rice, steamed vegetables in a white sauce, two spring rolls and a huge bowl of mapo. (Be careful to get it low spicy because even mild this almost burned the hairs off my balls). Unfortunately I had the pleasure of trying this establishment earlier tonight. I'm sorry to have to say it was probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had!
