We ordered for delivery after a lovely long Saturday in the sunshine. We were tired and hungry and decided to avoid cooking.
Our order was placed online via Just-Eat at 6:40. We were told that it would arrive by 7:40. At 7:45 the order had still not arrived so we placed a quick call to find out where our meal was. The driver was lost, so after a few directions our dinner appeared at the door.
I opened the vegetarian spring rolls and the chips to give to my eager 4 year old, except it was all luke warm. I gave him his food hoping it was the exception, but as we delved into the bag it was clear that our food was all way below the temperature you would normally expect from a takeaway.
Being so hungry, and having waited so long for the delivery, we decided just to get on and eat. The chips were hard and unappetising. The spring rolls were pale and flavourless. The best of the bunch were the satay skewers, but there were so few we felt rather disappointed.
Then came my crispy chilli beef, a favourite of mine. I love the sweetness of the sauce mixed with the gentle chilli and the crunchy chewiness of the beef. If only that had been my meal. The beef was all stuck together in a manner that appeared overcooked. The sauce looked oddly dark, and as I took my first bite I was to discover why. OH. MY. GOODNESS. It was so spicy and hot in taste that my mouth felt on fire. Drinks would not put out the apparent flame on my tongue and I struggled to breathe through the spice, shedding a tear as I removed the beast from my mouth. It was like I'd gorged on a whole naked chilli.
I called to complain as I was unsatisfied with our entire experience and in particular felt my food was inedible. They were kind enough to offer to send out a 1/4 aromatic duck for me to make sure I wouldn't go hungry. I was promised I would have it within half an hour, but it has been 40 minutes and still no sign of it.
