DONT STAY HERE. Very old and dated. Yes I know it's a "motel" but c'mon. Upon entry I had to re-plug in the mini fridge. No outlets by bed. Needed extension cord. Bugs/Flys in the room. When visiting Hyde Park, it's tough to find decent accommodations. We normally stay at the Roosevelt Inn, but it's August and we really wanted a place with a pool. When I made the reservations in June they assured me the pool would be open. Also, while making the reservations they didn't take down any credit card info and they didn't ask for an email address so no confirmation was sent. I was a bit nervous we'd get to town and we'd be stuck without a place to stay. Fast forward to August. We check in. We did not get adjoining rooms as we requested--important to us since we wanted our kids right there "with" us. Then we checked out the pool--never was opened this summer. Big bummer. We got a chuckle out of their business cards with the "HBO" and "AAA Approved" crossed out. So for $75 ($85 for 3 people) we got two beds and a little kitchen area with fridge and microwave and table with two chairs. Decent space and set up, but smells musty. I'm sensitive to mold, so not good for me. Bathroom is circa 1965--quaint and clean enough, I suppose, but it could use a good scrubbing. Don't depend on actually using the minuscule soap and shampoo. Bring your own. We even went out and bought our own toilet paper. On the positive side, the water pressure is excellent. The owners seem nice. There's a really nice nature trail right next door that we explored; go in the entrance to the drive-in and you'll see signs. There's quite a bit within walking distance--Dairy Queen, CVS Pharmacy, movie theatre, Roosevelt library, and a handful of restaurants. Summary: pros are: great location, good price, nice sized rooms, family-owned and run Cons: old, needs a thorough cleaning and fresh paint, internet connection is weak, no working pool, needs sheers for the windows so we can get sunlight without gawkers walking by (and with the shades closed the fluorescent lighting is horrendous) read more

For the price and location this place gets 5 stars. What do you expect for a doors on the outside motel? Double headed showers and Apple TV? Give me a break. You can stay at the corporate chain up the road-which is totally fine, or you can stay at a family owned small business for 30 years. I literally waked to Eveready diner and FDR's home and presidential library. That's pretty hard to beat. The trails (Roosevelt Farm Lane trails) directly behind the hotel are awesome, and travel directly to Eleanor Roosevelt's home as well. Oh and there is a brewery one business to the south? yeah. For $60 a night, working tv, wifi, hot shower, coffee, cinnamon rolls, a mini fridge and clean towels...yeah I'll take that all day. I saw some people complaining about the owner's english. I'm a gun-toting Republican from Texas, and didn't have any trouble. Aren't y'all supposed to be open minded and such? Stay at this hotel if you're not an uppity douche, you can't beat the location for Hyde Park. read more

I almost don't want to let anyone else know about this hidden gem. Everything was in very good repair and the room was spacious and immaculate. Comfy beds, good water pressure, free wifi and unlimited ice are all bonuses. True, this is a no frills place and things are a bit dated, but the price can't be beat and the owners were extremely pleasant and accommodating as well. (While you're there, check out beer sampler and some appetizers next door at the Hyde Park Brewing Company next door - most items are made in house from scratch, and you can tell.) read more

Anyone that does not give this place 5 stars is crazy. I am not putting this place on a 5 star hotel like Hilton's which I have stayed at before. But compared to ANY OTHER hotel in area it is HALF the price. Come on people, you get what you pay for. No it is not as nice as the Hilton extended stay in New Paltz or Mariott in Poughkeepsie, but for $60 night compared to $160 at Hilton or $100 at down street, you can't beat it. Yes, it would deserve 1 star if they were all same price, but they are not. Clean and nice staff. Quiet and out of the city of Poughkeepsie. This isn't an all inclusive resort that we are hanging at pool and going to restaurants. We are crashing at night and sleeping. Use your head and save your money and stay here. read more

This awful hellhole of a motel deserves less than the one star I'm forced to give it, bugs everywhere, a stench that seems to exist everywhere in the room that really can't be placed, and to top it all off our tv didn't have a remote, was older than sin, and you couldn't change the channels with the buttons on the front. The Good: - $60 a night - Owners are nice. - Directly across the street from the Roosevelt Library, in case you happen to be in town for that reason. - Located directly beside the Hyde Park Brewing Company (decent bar and grill place) and the Roosevelt Cinemas. - No fancy breakfast, but they brew a pot of coffee and leave some pastries in the lobby. The Less Good: - Internet was decent most of the time, but I did have some trouble occasionally. - The rooms are oddly conducive to the production of static electricity. - Desk chair felt like it had seen better days. Overall, this place is a little rough around the edges, but it has charm and it's not dirty. Good budget option. I'll definitely stay there next time I'm in town. HORRIBLE!!!!! The motel is extremely dirty, has a dreadful stench, and is all around very uncomfortable to stay at. That said, the reason for this review is to explain the incredibly, disturbing experience we had with the management/owners. When we first arrived, we paid with a company credit card. We went to our room, and a few moments later, the woman who we believe was the owner of the business, came running after us saying we had a stolen credit card. She yelled on the top of her lungs and said "GET IN HERE!" We were very concerned because we didn't know what she meant and why she was so violent with her language. We went in, and she continued to yell at us saying that my personal name was not on the receipt by the company name. I explained to her that the reason this is, is because I used a company card. I showed her my card and license and she instead of saying "So, sorry", she said, "How the hell am I supposed to know?" We were about to leave but decided we would stay as it was late in the day. We went to eat and when we drove back into their parking lot, the same woman was there watching us park. We parked, very nicely and even in their very disorganized parking lot. before we could turn the car off, she was yelling to take down the window and started to heavily knock on our car's driver's side window. I got out of the car and asked "What??" She replied "You have no idea what you're doing. You are taking up three parking spaces!" I told her that i was not and showed her I was within the lines of her own parking lot layout. After a couple minutes of yelling at us, I said 'We're leaving and I want a refund." She waved to get into the lobby and I quote "get in here - we don't need your F++++++ money!!!" I was astonished. They did refund the money and we left. It was clearly the most horrible experience I have ever had in hospitality. The motel is nestled within a very nice area, Hyde Park. because of this, you'd never expect such an experience. We have since went to the Chamber of Commerce and wrote a four page report on this terrible business. STAY AWAY!!!!!! read more

For about $60-65 a night, you get what you expect and I still enjoyed it. When you walk into their lobby, it's clean and standard. There's a microwave in the front and a place to eat their offered breakfast. After getting your room key and remote, don't forget to ask for the WiFi password! I went to my room and it was very clean. There was the standard bed, lights, TV, mini fridge (that you have to plug back in), clean towels, and little soaps/ shampoo/ conditioner in the bathroom. The cleaning lady starts every day around 11 so you can always expect a clean room when you come back. I stayed there for 3 nights and had no fuss. The FDR residence is literally across the street, the Hyde Park Brewing Company (restaurant) is right next door and the movie theater is right next to the restaurant. The CIA is less than 5 minutes south and ~10 minutes away from the Poughkeepsie station. I really enjoyed it here and cannot understand why anyone else had problems with this place. I thoroughly liked my stay here and they have a loyal customer. read more

We stayed here in April of 2013. We didn't plan our last night in NY too well and got stuck trying to find a hotel after doing our touristy stuff for the day. We visited a couple hotels to check the rooms out. This one was the one we chose. As others have stated, it is no frills. But, staff is accommodating and helpful. The room, although very dated and with a musty smell, was clean. Bathroom was fine, too. I had an awful cold and my asthma was having a hard time with the mustiness, but I got through it. I think with some minor updates, this hotel can bring in the money, esp with it's proximity to all the FDR tourist attractions without sacrificing the cool allure of staying at a historic roadside motel. read more

Calling this place a DUMP would be an insult to a real dump. The Golden Manor Motel is below a dump. We arrived at 10:50 PM, paid for the rooms and got our keys (yes, old fashioned keys) and went to the car to off load our luggage. We had rented two rooms and there was an outside light in front of each door which attracted a copius amount of flying bugs. As soon as you open the door the bugs fly into the room. There were more bugs in the tub and even more in the bed. By now my wife is crying and demanding we leave. Now it is about 11:15 PM and the motel office is CLOSED. There was a key box outside so I wrote a note and put it in the box with the room keys and told them about the bugs and told them not to charge me since we did not stay in the rooms. They charged me anyway. We moved to the Quality Inn about a quarter mile to the north and it was a very pleasant two day stay. read more

We have stayed at the Golden Manor motel several times with the kids because it is the only pool in the Hyde Park with a pool. It is no frills, but clean, and we love a pool. However, I just heard from a friend who checked out last week that the owners decided not to open the pool for the summer. Beware -- the sign still boasts a pool. We would be happy to continue staying here if the pool is reopened, but without the pool there is nothing to distinguish this place from the string of second rate motels on the strip. We stayed at the Golden Manor Motel for one week in Jan 2009 when we first moved to Poughkeepsie and were waiting for our furniture to be delivered. We stayed in one of their efficiency units which was huge and roomy, had a kitchenette with table, desk, 2 beds and plenty of room for all of our luggage that we were carrying with us. This motel is of the era when my parents used to take us kids on vacation in the station wagon and we would stay at a small family-run motel that was affordable and no-frills. It is retro and old-fashioned but extremely comfortable, exceptionally clean and served our needs quite well. They had fast wireless internet in the room, which is not advertised on their website so it was a nice surprise. The owners were very nice and friendly to us, especially the wife, and this family has been running the motel for 22 years. I would highly recommend this place for anyone needing a inexpensive place to stay in the Hudson Valley area ($65/night). The Hyde Park Brewing Company is right next door so you can easily walk to a nice dinner and pint of brew. read more
