Inn At Twaalfskill - Room 3 bathroom

Inn At Twaalfskill

Really great. This place should not be called Inn At…read moreTwaalfskill. It should be called The Nancy Show. I say that in the most respectful way and only mean to say that I'm guessing the whole shebang would be next to nothing without her touch, her oversight and her attention to detail. The detail in the rooms, the perfection at breakfast, the lovingly manicured grounds, assorted wonderful nooks... at first I was wondering what there is to DO in Highland and, to be honest, I'm still not sure... but given the bike path, beautiful scenery and Inn At Twaalfkill, I'm not sure what else you need. I'm not always a fan of B and Bs... they can tend to be a little twee and you feel like you have to tiptoe around... partially because the walls in a good hotel are much thicker, the spaces less cramped, your anonymity more protected. There may be a bit of that tip-toeing here (the floors are pretty squeaky and you are worried that you are making too much noise for someone on a different sleeping schedule) but that is the only downside. We had just spent two nights in a pretty nice hotel in Beacon. The room was over 50% more expensive than here and, while large enough, there was not one square foot of horizontal space to put anything down in the bathroom.... The room at Inn at Twaalfill had so much guest-friendly space (especially in the bathroom), you would not likely have a use for all of it. If all B&Bs were this great and this price, I would never stay anywhere else.

The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The common areas welcome you to sit in the sunroom, by the fire, or in a private outdoor nook to read, have a drink, or watch a thunderstorm or some softly falling snow. Tea, water, Nespresso, and coffee are always available along with some delectable baked delight. Nancy is always full of great ideas for things to do and places to eat. A walk or bike on the nearby rail trail to the river is always beautiful. This is our place to reset, recharge, and relax.

Stayed here for one night while hiking in the area. For a Saturday night stay, we paid $268 which…read moreis on the pricer side for what the hotel was offers. Room was clean and spacious; we had a 2 queen bed with sofa on the 2nd floor. Plenty of parking and they had breakfast. Front desk lady who checked me in was friendly. They don't have an elevator so if stairs are a no go then you'd want to request a room on the first floor. The door by the stairs is exit only which was inconvenient since you had to walk around in the parking lot and enter through the lobby. There was a card reader on the outside of the door so they should consider fixing it so it can be used as an entrance. Coffee in the lobby was weak in flavor, very light. Breakfast options were limited. Only hot options were microwaved eggs and bacon and you can toast English muffin. A waffle maker would have been nice. Since they don't have a gym, there wasn't a water fountain in the hotel. While they did have a pitcher of water, it was small and not really effective for the whole hotel to use.

For all outward appearances the hotel is nice. No pool though. The staff is friendly and helpful,…read morethe room was clean. Good size bathroom. Complimentary breakfast is just ok, but it is something to eat. My primary complaint is that we paid weekend rates and our room was never serviced. Got back from a long day out sightseeing to dirty towels, unmade bed etc. I had to go to the front desk to ask for clean towels. I wasn't able to reach the front desk via phone, it just rang busy. I also realize the screaming kids next door weren't their fault but I couldn't call the desk to complain. Not sure we will stay here again without a compelling reason.

One employee we experienced that really needs help, is the elderly bartender who when I asked what beer I should try? She replied, "I don't drink beer". The gentleman in the morning restaurant and the lady who made coffee was outstanding and worked hard to keep up but not enough staff for 3 consecutive mornings. Fairly obvious they don't or didn't staff based on occupancy or share that information with the staff. Only 1 server for every morning and everyone wanted breakfast. Seems like they just need more help. Hotel room was beautiful and large and would recommend the hotel just not the restaurant unless you have ample time.

Just take a ticket to get in but once you check in, your key card will get you in and out for free. Check in was quick and easy and the front desk team was very nice. We had a room at the end of the hall on the 9th floor and it was super quiet, even thought they had four weddings going on. When the front desk guy told me that, I thought it was going to be a loud, long evening but our room was quiet all night. We were on a corner so had corner windows which were lovely but the shades were great and kept out the light. Everything was clean and the bathroom looked like it had been recently updated. The bed was a little soft for my taste but overall, the room was great. I've only been to Poughkeepsie once before but I know I walked to several beer bars not too far from this hotel. The convention center is right next door and there's a big theater just down the street, so I'd say this location is pretty convenient. We had a great stay here!
