I was happy about that because my front door was not secure and I was about to go out of town for an extended period of time. The lockset on my narrow stile door is not a garden variety lock and has many variations and nuances. The locksmith was puzzled from the get-go and when I offered some advice, he welcomed my input. I am technically capable and had worked on the lockset before. Regrettably, he did not follow my guidance on how to complete one of the tasks in the reassembly process and as a consequence, one tiny screw could not be installed. The holes were slightly misaligned. So he just left it out. The lock worked and was safe, but the cover plate would bind on the jam. To his credit, he told me about it and gave me the screw. After he left, I disassembled the lock to the point of being able to make the adjustments necessary so that the screw could be installed and then reassembled everything. The main plus was that he came out right away and brought the replacement lock components that I could not obtain locally and got my lock functional within hours. Had I been able to buy the part myself I would have done the work myself. I'm pleased with everything, even considering that I had to redo some of it. I think it is unreasonable to expect any particular locksmith to know the nuances of every possible lock, especially unusual / exotic ones, so I'm OK with it and will call Howard again if I find myself in a bind.

DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM…read more He initially told me that one bottle of coolant and the part we supplied were all he needed. Once the process started, he called me down from my house and told me I would need to pay for another bottle of coolant just to test whether his work was complete. That was odd because we had already supplied him with a full bottle. We refused, but he still went to the store. While he was at the register, he called us and told us the total, as if we hadn't already declined to send him to the store. After he claimed he was finished, he knocked on my door and told me he had locked his keys in his car and had left his equipment in MY CAR. He then asked if he could wait inside my house while his wife drove 30 minutes to bring him another set of keys. At that point, my house was not in the right condition for someone to be waiting inside, so this was extremely uncomfortable and honestly a huge inconvenience. Once his wife finally arrived, he came back and said that he felt he wasn't paid enough for the job he had done. At that point, I was already extremely uncomfortable and frustrated with the entire situation. Then, to make matters worse, I started finding loose bolts in the corner of my car that were supposed to be on the water pump. When I asked him about the bolts, he said he had purchased new ones because he didn't have enough of the correct bolts to finish the job. However, after he went to the store--which we never agreed to send him to--he came back claiming that he had the correct amount of bolts all along. What really pissed me off was that he left my car jacked up IN HOUSTON, OF ALL PLACES, with the engine exposed. AND NOW, LESS THAN TWO MONTHS LATER, THE WATER PUMP IS STILL LEAKING COOLANT. The exact issue we paid to have repaired has not been resolved. With all the confusion throughout this entire process, I honestly don't understand how we could be accused of shorting him when the original agreement was completely different. It's WAY too hot in Texas for people to be spending their hard-earned money and still not have the problem resolved. I paid for a service, and I expect the work to be completed correctly and my vehicle to be left in the condition it was supposed to be in. It hasn't even been a full two months since he last worked on my car, and we are STILL dealing with a leaking water pump.

When the technician arrived at my teenage daughter's residence she felt intimidated by him especially when he said one price then charged another, without explaining the extra charges to her, and then the guy offered to give her another key is she gave him $100 cash!! This was abusive tactics of a business towards a young vulnerable woman. She just paid so he would leave. I believe he discriminated based on location, as she is in a nicer neighborhood than I called from, and took advantage of my daughter being young. I talked to the owner the next day and he laughed at us and blamed us for not knowing what a 'key' means, for being dumb enough for losing her key in the first place and then said they did nothing wrong by charging us undisclosed trip charges and coding charges and stands by the idea that a basic 'key' with no remote access should cost $335! He denigrated his female customers even further and refused to supply my daughter with a key that make her have safe and swift access to her car with a remote access.
