I haven't had food from Golden Krust in a long time. There was a quiet ambiance at the Oakland Park location as I entered. With adequate table seating, this location offered: * a variety of fresh patties/pastries/bread & buns * breakfast dishes/combo meals * pasta/soups/sides * cold beverages * lunch specials I was greeted by a female employee who dished out my order of brown stew chicken into a carry out container. It was served with rice & peas, steamed vegetables, and fried plantains. She also added enough sauce to the rice. The food looked delicious and tasted good as well. The chicken was nicely browned and was tender. The rice & peas was cooked to a soft consistency and had a peppery kick. The veggies was tender and flavorful, while the plantains was sweet. Wish I could have tried one of there hot meals, but I was pressed for time. I ordered the jerk chicken and spicy beef patty. I was served the jerk but the other was NOT a spicy patty as I ordered I have no clue what I was served and I ordered my food to go so by time I realized my order was incorrect I was away from the restaurant. The jerk chicken patty was ok. It wasn't spicy as I thought it would be. The crust was soft and super flaky. The chicken was tender and mildly seasoned. Anyhow service was good. The cashier was nice and friendly. The restaurant was clean and there was plenty of indoor seating. This place gets crowded for lunch so definitely try to get there early to avoid crowds. Beef patties are the best here! Ladies who work here are always so sweet. It's always busy here but the food speaks for itself. Patties are always fresh throughout the day. Great layout. I made the mistake of stopping at Golden Krust for lunch this past Thursday afternoon. The young lady with the bad attitude was a reminder of why I stopped going to Dutch Pot & Donna's years ago. She was angry at the world from the get go, and just got worse as time went on. I am normally there on Saturdays, and I have never seen her before. That was just not the type of service I am used to at that location. In this case, my lunch hour was ruined and it didn't matter about the food at that point. They had a nice selection of Jamaican entrees, the service was organized and efficient, and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Everything looked neat and clean and I especially liked that they have a sign saying no cell phones in the serving area for the staff. The couple of times I've visited this Golden Krust has been with hubby who's office is close by and is convenient for grabbing lunch. I'm always surprised (which by now, I don't know why) by the less than enthusiastic greeting the staff greets me with. This is not in isolation to this location, it's an overall thing in these kinds of restaurants. I guess I'm looking for it to be different which would offer a pleasant experience, but that's just not the case. And the one time it was different, I was happily surprised. The way the staff greets me and interacts with me in a restaurant is highly important and encourages me to want to return. The reason I return here is because I know the food and what to expect, it's consistent, the taste never changes, and their lunch meals are inexpensive. But then there's that one thing I can't seem to understand...I can't tell you the amount of times I've asked for something on the menu that they never seem to have any of. It's been a minute since I've been to a golden crust and I'm honestly disappointed. I was visiting family and as soon as o got off the plane, this was the first place I headed to. The service wasn't bad, but I was very disappointed with the food. I got pattie and coco bread. I had to throw out the pattie. It was not good. I also got the oxtail, which wasn't bad, but how do you mess up fried plantains? I had high hopes and I was let down :-( read more

If you stop by Golden Krust and aren't all the well acquainted with the foods of the Caribbean, you may have problem figuring out what is what. Though they have some pictures on the wall, not of much help. When you view the actual food displayed in the food service area, you'll find none of it labeled, marked or identified. So if you're going to try to tell the difference between a dark stew of chicken and some of the other items, you're going to have a problem. Another thing that I found particularly aggravating is that everything they serve is served in those Styrofoam take out containers. They don't even have any plates. Then, if you order anything to drink, they'll merely plop an unopened can of it in front of you, not even offering a straw and worse, they don't even have any cups. I ended up drinking my soda out of a Styrofoam soup container. So, though one may think me picky, eating in but having to eat out of takeout containers, not having any cups and with food unlabeled, unmarked or just plain unidentifiable deserves at least a minus one star from what I would otherwise rate the place. As for the food itself, it's noted as Caribbean, hence not particularly authentic to any particular area of the Caribbean though it tends more toward that of Jamaica. Of what I've had, it's sort of all over the place as to taste, flavor and quality. I found their jerked pork to have a real jerk flavor imbedded throughout and being some of the better jerked pork I've had. I also thought that their curried goat particular good. But then their fried plantain had the texture of leather, their shredded cabbage yucky in taste, and their chicken, no matter the means of preparation, all rather subpar. I'd easily go three stars but because of having to eat of takeout containers, unlabeled foods, and no cups, two stars. read more

The staff here is friendly and courteous. If you're a regular (or not-so-regular) visitor to Caribbean restaurants, you'll understand why this is worth mentioning, and appropriately placed as my introduction to this review. This Golden Krust is my go-to lunch spot. They've got a great lunch special until 3pm, which gives you a small plate of food for under $6! Be aware that not all Golden Krust locations serve their lunch specials in this small container. Somehow others have managed to find a small, small plate. That just makes me appreciate this location even more. The food is always consistently tasty. The menu is full of a welcome variety, including daily soup and porridge options. I haven't been particularly successful at getting fish ready to serve at this location. It could be that my typical visit time is during lunch however. I've never been disappointed here. The restaurant is always clean and is a convenient dine-in location as well. Parking is fairly easy to get in and out. My one complaint is that they have a tendency to serve pre-ripened plantain. This being my single favorite side dish by far, this is more of a frustration to me than it might be for you, but hopefully they'll pay more attention to this in the future! read more

I waited in line ... when it was my turn I was rudely told by the line person to get them at the cashier... the Cashier was also rude as if she didn't want to give me my patties. So strange. A great place to get some Jamaican food. It's always on point. My 5 year old had patties from another place and told me I had to keep coming back here for her patties. She said "they have the best patties". The service is also great. They greet you as you walk through the doors and get you in and out.
