The team here is wonderful! I had been to three other physical therapy offices for several rounds of PT after having surgery to repair the torn ligaments in my shoulder. They all failed to complete my healing and help me find my full mobility again. The last place even just dismissed me at the end, saying that was all that could be done and to just go get a cortisone shot. They were wrong. With the help of Jona, and also Tim, my shoulder is making a full recovery. It's taken over a year this time, but they never gave up on me and my healing. I am already able to be more active, and I will soon be able to participate in activities, like tennis, that I thought were never going to be possible for me again. The support and guidance provided was outstanding and I have been able to completely recover and also learn how to manage the issue if it had to re-present itself. This place is fantastic. Adrian is the man. I started going to GGPT after herniating my disc (L5/S1) and experiencing extreme sciatic pain shooting down my leg. At its worst, I had a 10/10 pain level, leaving me completely immobilized. I initially chose GGPT because Adrian was certified in the McKenzie Method, which had previously offered me some relief. However, after several sessions, I discovered many different strategies to alleviate my pain AND strengthen my core to prevent future injuries. Adrian doesn't just adhere to a strict set of protocols like McKenzie or McGill (though he's well-versed and certified); instead, he customizes his approach to meet the specific context, needs, and goals of each individual. Adrian is literally the best. I went to him for one knee issue 17 years ago, and he fixed me right up. Now my other knee is playing me up (plus I have a shoulder issue, too) so I went right back to him. Adrian and the team at GGPT are amazing. I had visited several years ago for a shoulder injury and this time came in for treatment of a pinched nerve. The admin, scheduling, and billing team are friendly, proactive, and thorough. I really appreciated how they were able to still coordinate remotely during COVID challenges. As for the therapy itself - Adrian is great. He takes the time to truly understand your history, the injury, how you're feeling, and what you can handle in therapy. Then he works to put together a game plan that will help you on the path to recovery. He will work with you both in the gym and providing therapy. This is a long review, so in summary, they have questionable logic for extra charges, the sessions are short / inefficiently times, and they unreasonably overcharge for which they won't reimburse without your demanding it. That said, the physical therapy was effective. Now to the details... To start, you have to pay a $75 annual membership not covered by insurance. They say it's to make each session entirely 1 on 1 with physical therapists rather than using techs, but this is clearly bullshit. How does that make sense if it's the same price for someone who goes twice in a year as it is for someone who goes twice every week for the whole year? Wouldn't they want to just charge more for each session? I think it's just a shady way to charge a few extra dollars while still agreeing to insurance rates. Second, each session is only scheduled for 45 minutes, yet averaged closer to 40 minutes. They typically started a couple minutes late but always ended on time, if not a minute or two early. You can't blame the therapists because they schedule appointments immediately after each other. Third, even though it was 1 on 1, probably half of my session would typically be cupping. I'm not saying cupping was the wrong approach, but why do you need to dedicate a licensed PT to each patient if 15-20 minutes are spent standing around chatting doing passive treatment? The PT I've had before had the same or more amount of active interaction with the therapists themselves, but lasted an hour. They used the passive time to work on other patients. You'd have a 5 min conversation to start and end (same with this place), about 15-30 minutes of manual therapy or movement monitoring / coaching that was 1 on 1 with the therapist, and the remaining time would be either with a tech doing exercises or passive treatment like icing or cupping. It wasn't entirely 1 on 1, but it was effective and efficient. The therapist would rotate between 2-3 patients, one at a time, while the other 1-2 patients would work with a tech or receive passive treatment. Instead this place tried to reinvent the model in a way that is less effective and costs the patient more. Fourth, the billing was sketchy. Even though they confirmed my insurance rates, they would charge me extra. My insurance rate was $81.77 but they would charge $100. I brought it up multiple times, but they always said it's because insurance rates can change, but once it's confirmed, they would either reimburse me or charge my session from the balance. But the claims would post right away to my insurance account for the exact amount. Plus, I called my insurance before going and they gave me the exact amount I would be charged. Maybe I misunderstood why they charged extra but I find it hard to believe they didn't know the rate. Plus, there was a two month gap between my first and last appointment and they said the same thing the entire time. Even if they were unsure if the rates could change or something, they have my info and could bill me in the mail in that event. Plenty of healthcare is billed after. Still, I never got a call or check for the balance in the three months after I stopped going. I had to call them to get them to mail a check to me for the balance. It only makes me suspect they wouldn't do anything unless demanded and used this as a sketchy way to skim a few extra dollars. I cannot rationalize this practice any other way. Outside of the shady business practices, they were able to help me resolve my simple issue relatively quickly. I realized I didn't post this review from a while ago, so things may have changed, but this was my experience. read more

I went there in 2020 and my therapy was likely effective. I worked with Brent who was really nice. I don't have anywhere to compare this to as this was my first and only knee injury. I felt like we did a lot of cupping and massaging, and the exercise time was short. My issue, and why I'm coming back after years to review GGPT, is the front desk girl Victoria- I really disliked going for my visits about halfway into my sessions. I can't forget how she made me feel. I called in one day hours ahead to explain I needed to cancel my session as my card had been stolen and I was feeling unwell and she SNAPPED. This was the only time I cancelled and I went multiple times a week AND I paid completely out of pocket. Regardless of how I paid or if this wasn't my first time cancelling I was a customer. The nastiness coming from her was insane. She told me the reason I couldn't come in wasn't an "excuse" and when I explained I wouldn't be able to get an Uber to get there due to my card being gone she said I could wait for a cab. Yes, that really came out of her mouth. She was very aggressive! After I said I wanted to speak with management, I will never forget her tone switch and her apology. She acknowledged that was my first time cancelling and had the nerve to ask if I still wanted to speak to management. To be spoken to like a child still bothers me to this day :) I still continued to go and I should have found another place. read more

I've known Adrian for almost 20 years. I met him back in 2004 after a bicep tendon tear after surgery. I was back playing tennis in 9 months thanks to him. In 2019 I was back at GGPT for rehab after two knee replacements and was back on the tennis courts and hiking after a year. Recently I was back again after tearing two tendons in my back after a fall on an hike. No surgery this time because of his great rehab. I would recommend GGPT for any kind of rehab even if surgery is not involved. read more

I can't say enough great things about GGPT. I've been coming here for two injuries as of this year and was met with nothing but the best care from the entire front desk staff and my PT, David. We began working on my shoulder issues (a very tiny muscle tear) and my knee issues (quadriceps tendonitis) 2x per week. Each appointment I am met with knowledge, care, and enthusiasm by the entire team. With David's recommendations, I have been able to easily incorporate treatment and preventative care into my weekly workouts. His humor and guidance have been extremely helpful in making the arduous task of PT much easier to do. I'm actually excited to come here and do my weekly sessions which you can't say about a lot of doctors. The types of therapy we've done have been: deep tissue muscle work, cupping, stim therapy, and lots of rehabilitative workouts. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. The staff is made up of some of the friendliest people I've met. On first glance I was a bit timid. The office was packed with people of all ages doing exercises around various locations within the relatively small space. Sitting on my left was a young man waiting for his appointment, while on my right was an older woman who clearly needed a break from her arduous walk around the room. She was reluctant to keep going which made me giggle. I could completely relate to her as I also wasn't looking forward to my long road to recovery. The women at the counter are the sweetest and make an effort to remember everyone's names. I should be better about remembering theirs. For the past 3 months I've been working with Tony and he is amazing. After several months of dealing with chronic back/sciatica pain and barely being able to walk, I can now say that I have never felt better! I agree with Josie M. - the staff is nice and the therapists do their job but they find every way to empty your pockets. To start off, they charge $50 "concierge fee" - HUH ?? Then once you are rehabilitated and only need to go back for an adjustment they charge you $175 for an evaluation + another $200 for the session itself. Hopefully, you have insurance. And whatever you do, do NOT miss an appointment or you'll get charged $75. What's crazy is that when you first sign up, they ensure that you will have the same therapist every time. The reality, this is a far from the truth. By the time your therapist has an opening you will no longer need therapy. This is so critical especially after surgery when you need consistent sessions and therapy. In 2016, I was diagnosed with a 4.5mm bulging disc. This caused such severe sciatica to the point where I couldn't go up the stairs, stand in the shower, or brush my teeth without sitting. My only relief was lying down; my entire life had to be worked around, my social life limited, my personality switched due to being in constant pain and stress, and ultimately the quality of my life nosedived. I spent a 1.5 years going through 4-6 different physical therapists ranging from dogcrap to mediocre quality at best (Luna PT, GSports). After being fed up with the lack of progress, I switched to Adrian's and GGPT after I saw their Yelp Page and noticed on their website showed specializing in lower back treatment. From October 2017, my quality of care improved, my symptoms lessened, but I still couldn't work around the injury without getting surgery. While some PT's think they can heal anything with just their training, Adrian was smart and honest to let me know that this was a mechanical issue and that surgery would allow me to bounce back to combat sports and my general life much faster than waiting/working around it. I honestly wouldn't have done the surgery if Adrian didn't strongly recommend it. Adrian pointed me in the correct direction and I locked down one of the best spine doctors in the Bay Area to perform the corrective surgery. Adrian was supportive and communicative throughout the entire ordeal and healing process. I would not be here without his guidance and have transformed my life as a result. I've gone from not being able to walk around the block without pain to literally running/kickboxing this week. I am hugely grateful to be able to work with one of the top physical therapists in the San Francisco Bay Area and am expecting to make a full return to combat sports. I fully recommend Golden Gate Physical Therapy to anyone that's dealing with a physical injury as I believe they are first in class at what they do. Can't say enough good things about Golden Gate Physical Therapy, especially Sasha. After nearly a year of failed PT at a different clinic, I re-injured my back and my doctor recommended Golden Gate PT. I was so impressed by the methodical goal-oriented nature to actually get me recovering rather than ad-hoc therapy to manage pain that I've received from other clinics. I also really appreciated how they pushed me. Many times I was nervous to perform a new exercise or use more weight, but I quickly learned to trust Sasha who was carefully watching the whole time and push through. When I first came into the clinic, I had near constant pain whether I was walking or sitting; I struggled with basic household chores like cooking, laundry, etc. With weekly sessions with Sasha, I quickly began recovering. GGPT is amazing. Each therapist and each session gets better as I progress. I'd recommend Adrian, Tim, Brent and David to anybody needing to rehab from a sports injury. They know their stuff cold and work together/collaborate incredibly well, so you can book appointments that meet your schedule and never miss a beat with whomever you see. Victoria and her front desk team are incredibly professional and easy to work with to book appointments. They make everything so easy. I tore my Achilles in January and had surgery with Dr. Akizuki. Working with GGPT and Dr. Akizuki -- I was back in the gym riding an exercise back after 2 weeks, walking in a boot without crutches after 5-6 weeks, walking in hiking boots in 10 weeks, walking in tennis shoes and riding my road bike for 2 hours in just over 3 months. I still have more rehab to go to get to 100%, and I look forward to each PT session at GGPT. They are so knowledgeable, helpful, interesting and tough on me, which is exactly what I want. I really like the therapists here, and the receptionists at the front desk run a tight ship. Everyone is super nice. The problem is that they charge you a $50 bogus "concierge fee" or something when you first sign up. They said its to ensure that you have the same consistent therapist every time you come in. (see Mike F's review) Which is funny, cause that didn't quite happen for me anyway - my therapist was very popular/busy, so I did end up seeing a different therapist on occasion after all. I've been to Golden Gate Physical Therapy for three separate injuries. Every time I completed therapy, I was fully healed and more informed on exercise/health. Being athletes themselves, the team understands that Golden Gate's patients want to return to their pre-injury lifestyle. Golden Gate designs specified programs for its patients' needs. The team acts its clients' coach through the rehabilitation. The PTs explain the purpose of the recommended exercises and provide drills/workouts to ensure the injury does not reoccur. I have been going to GG Physical Therapy 3 times a week (thanks Obamacare!) since early March after I had my second ACL surgery in a month due to infection. I was in a lot of pain and could barely move my knee when I got there, plus my quad had attrophied to nothing. Five months later I have most of my knee flexibility back and I've started running again! I am tremendously pleased with the therapists and the front desk staff. They conduct business in a professional, yet lively and happy atmosphere, but most of all THEY GET RESULTS! I highly respect this business for its multi-dimentional approach to healing and rehabilitation. They have so many "weapons" in their arsenal to combat your problems that I get the feeling coming here is the right move for anyone: knee, ankle, shoulder, back, etc. Tim and Kevin have primarily been working on me, and they are wizards! Tony and Sasha have done good work with me as well. Then there's Adrian who founded the practice; he has a next-level grasp on physical therapy and has done a great job of passing his knowledge down to the other (previously mentioned) therapists, who have all loyally worked there for many years, matching his effectiveness. I can not say enough good things about Bianca - SHE IS THE THERAPIST YOU WANT! I recently dislocated my hip back in July during a freak slip accident (I'm 27 yrs old, but may as well have the hip flexion of an 80 yr old). I was in so much pain and I doubted I would make a full recovery, however I'm thankful I came across GGPT for their great reviews....and they certainly live up to them! Over the course of the past 3 months, Bianca has worked diligently with me to make sure I build back up the strength and flexibility in my leg. She's smart, personable and has great attention to detail. Her various techniques have helped tremendously. These guys are awesome. I worked with Kevin to rehabilitate my ankle after a sprain. I had consulted with a couple orthopedic surgeons that had recommended surgery to repair several damaged areas of my foot that had sustained injuries over the years. One of them also prescribed me to physical therapy to see what kind of progress could be made before opting for surgery. In the end my ankle has progressed to the point that I am no longer having surgery at all and it feels stronger than it has in years. The staff here is very knowledgable and they are able to give you great one-on-one attention. I highly recommend this business. read more

These guys are as good as it gets. I've done PT elsewhere and GGPT is simply in a league of their own. I've worked mostly with Tim, who is extremely skilled. He knows the science behind the exercises he recommends, and is flexible enough to adjust to each patient's specific situation and feedback. Tim is particularly good at deep tissue massage work, which can really open things up to make it easier to do my exercises without pain. I've worked a bit with Kevin and Adrian as well, who are also great at what they do, and the staff at the front desk is extremely friendly, competent and professional (especially Victoria). Can't say enough good things about this place. I tore my ACL playing soccer and the goal after surgery was to work back to full physical activity ASAP. Dr. Allen took care of the dirty work putting me back together and I came over to GGPT shortly after. I used a number of therapists here (all were great) but Tim was my main squeeze. He was incredibly thorough in assessing my progress, adapting workout routines, and just keeping spirits high in general. Every check-in I had with my doctor began with her praising my progress and ended with her giving me clearance for new sweet activities. Tim quickly helped me get ahead of the recovery schedule and we never looked back. Receptionists are top notch, facilities are surprisingly versatile given that the office looks like it may have been a dentist office in a former life. I had a knee injury due to a car accident and after a year and a half, I still had problems with my knee. I had previously been to physical therapy at Embarcadero and swear it did next to nothing. I went to Ken Akizuki for a 2nd opinion and he recommended this place. Adrian was great. He really knew his stuff. I felt better after our 2nd session. Highly recommend this place. Adrian really is on top of it. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because paying is a pain. It's cash or check only and they prefer "exact change". So I have to make an atm run and then a walgreen's run right after so I can pay them the amount of my session. Other than that, the PT was great! read more
