I was really not expecting such delicious pho in Oakley, but it's safe to say that Golden Gate Pho is a very solid spot. We were in the area last month and I really wanted pho, especially since it was a chilly and stormy day. Golden Gate Pho came well recommended, so it was a no brainer for us to try their food. It was a quiet day, but service was friendly and attentive. We were seated immediately. There were only a few others dining in, so it was pretty peaceful. The restaurant was clean, with ample seating. We got to sit at a comfy booth this time, but there were also regular chairs and tables for larger groups. I went with the #60 pho, which comes only in the large size. My husband went with one of his favorite Vietnamese dishes, the beef stew with bread. We didn't have to wait very long for our food to arrive. The baguette that came with the beef stew was a really nice size. It was toasted and crunchy on the outside while pillowy on the inside. I tried a bit of the beef stew itself and it was tender and seasoned well, with a rich broth. My pho was so good. I loved that it was served with the rare steak on top for me to cook at the table. The herbs were fresh and the meat was tender. There was a good amount of meat as well, and the broth was flavorful without being heavy or oily. The noodles were perfectly cooked. This was definitely one of the best bowls of pho I've had besides at my usual spots in Sacramento. While we don't go to this area often, I would really love to return whenever we next pass through. Nothing beats a solid, comforting bowl of pho, and Golden Gate Pho fits the bill. read more

First I heard about this place, and a good alternative to Antioch's Da Nang. I like my Pho piping hot and this place met my requirement. I've been coming to Golden Gate Pho for a while because it's local and convenient, and I usually order the vermicelli with beef. The flavors are good and I've generally enjoyed my meals here. However, on my recent visit the portion of beef was noticeably smaller than what I've received in the past. It looked pretty sparse compared to usual. I mentioned it to the server, and while he was polite, he said he isn't involved with food preparation. I didn't want to make a fuss, but for the price, the portion size should really be more consistent. For comparison, Danang offers a similar dish at about the same price point and provides a more generous portion. If value and portion size matter to you, that may be something to consider. I'm going to give a two star just due to the portions that don't match the price. read more

I also like the attentiveness of the person serving us. Their combo of grilled chicken is generous in size. It came with a few shrimp and an egg roll. You have a choice of their steamed rice, fried rice, or their garlic noodle. I've tried the garlic noodle with their combo and it's good The papaya salad is different. If you want to explore something other than a regular salad, you have to try this or the mango salad. It's a little bit sweet but I like the flavor and the dressing of the salad. I come here often (2-3/times a month), it's our go to when we want a dinner that will always hit the spot. The food is always delicious, the pho is incredible. Staff is so friendly and makes sure you have everything you need whether you dine in or pick up. More recently have been eating in, versus picking up, but either which way you cannot go wrong! They get the food out to you super fast- be prepared to eat shortly after you sit down. Order straight off their website for pickup, too. This is one of the legit Asian pho spots that doesn't taste Americanized. The broth is what makes makes the pho taste delicious. If the broth isn't good the rest of the food wont be good. My nephew/neice tried their Thai tea here with boba. Thai tea taste great and boba is soft and chewy. Customer service is great. Employees are nice and warm and attentive to you. The chicken wings came with a lot of flair but we only got like 4, and the salt and pepper sauce was good the wings weren't seasoned so without the sauce it would've been breaded chicken only! Came here today for to-go for dinner. First off, great service, nice people! Called in the order & was also ready within 15 minutes. At first glance, there is a huge portion of the serving! I ate everything one at a time (not sure why, but that's what I did today). I first ate the shrimp. The shrimp was well done! Dipped two of them in the sauce and they were devoured. I next had the egg roll and the vegetables. The egg roll was crispy! I was impressed for the level of crisp for a to-go order that was enclosed in a plastic to-go container, which would usually make any fried food soggy. The egg roll wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst; just average. The vegetables on the other hand were good. Threw the sauce on them and they were gone! I then ate the egg. Nothing special, but it was good. Then finally had some of the chicken then the garlic noodles. The noodles were good, however, tasted like it was missing a little something; possibly a bit more salt? I'm not sure, but it seemed to be missing something. The flavor wasn't all there, but was still do-able. The chicken was good & no complaints there, flavorful and a good consistency; wasn't dry or hard. Overall, the food was good & the service was too!
