From the ashes of many other restaurant rises Golden Buffet. If you've lived in the East Peoria area long enough, you'll remember Grand Village Buffet. At least I do and I remember it fondly. Golden Buffet is the latest incarnation of a restaurant going into this building and I believe all the prior restaurants have been owned by the same family. But, that's a discussion for another day. My dad suggested we grab food here since we haven't had time to hang out recently and that sounded like a good idea to me. We dropped in right at open and many other people had the same idea. The place filled up quickly as we took our seats and waited for some coffee to come out. The lady waiting on our table was very friendly and delivered us some coffee pronto. The first cup was definitely the first one out of the coffee machine as it had a very strong blend to it. Not bad, just not the usual taste you get from your average cup of coffee. The second cup tasted more like a normal cup of coffee. The interior was a lot nicer than I expected but had a bit of a fast food vibe to it. That's kind of hard to explain but the way the tables and seats were set up, it didn't feel like a place you'd lounge at for hours. Once you go, you might get what I mean. There were these robot guys at the entrances that seemed like fun things for kids to take photos with. And the plates had the business name printed on them so they definitely seem invested in this iteration of a restaurant in this building. My dad and I joined the lines at the food troughs and started grabbing food that sounded good. The selection here is a bit pared down compared to other buffets I've been to but there's still plenty of options for everyone. My first plate was a bit light as I was tired of waiting for everyone else to make their food choices. I went back to the table, dug in, and waited for the initial rush to be over. I went back up for another plate after about 10 minutes once I noticed everyone settling into their food piles. Between the two plates, I got a variety of food and goodies. Fried rice, General Tsao's chicken, sweet and sour chicken, some delicious buttery potato chunks, and other items one would come to expect at a Chinese buffet. With the first plate of food, the meats and chicken were a bit dried out. I think this was due to the food being cooked a bit ahead of time to be ready for opening. The second plate had a bit of the same problem but I think it was more of what I just described. The food was incredibly tasty and full of flavor despite being a bit dry. My dad seemed to enjoy every bite of his food, though! It's nice to see East Peoria have a Chinese buffet again. I miss Grand Village Buffet dearly. I do see myself going back during a different time of day to see if the food is a bit more juicy than my experience this first time. I should note that our tab was $44.88 for two lunch prices and two coffees. That does feel a bit high but with it being a buffet, you definitely get as much out of that as you want. We ate at 11am and its 8pm as of this writing and I'm still not hungry. Until the next review, stay golden and stay hungry (for new adventures).

Finally a really good Chinese buffet. Honestly, it felt like we were in Vegas. The food was good, and hot. The place was immaculate, and decorated with a modern style.

Review Visit: November 12th, 2016…read more I wonder if they have a Peoria Buffet in Hong Kong... ha. Ok, lame jokes aside, I may have found a new love at this buffet. Jalapeno Pepper Chicken. Soooo good. I generally get General Tsao's (or Tso's) because it is supposed to have a nice spicy kick to it, but this takes the cake. General is hit and miss at places on spicyness, but I think Jalapeno Pepper Chicken would have a consistent spicy kick due to the... well, peppers. A few of the items on the buffet were meh. The sweet and sour chicken was a bit dough-y. Sugar biscuits had clumps of sugar instead of it being evenly distributed. General Tsao's was not spicy, but was still good. We came here for my friends birthday and I am pretty sure I have been here before to eat. I know my friend comes here at least once a week to get food to go. Yup, they sell food to go. Probably charge by the weight of the container? I don't know. I typically don't add buffets to my travel list. Why exactly? I don't have a specific reason, really. But I've added this and Grand Village Buffet now, so there are exceptions to my rules. This one is a bit pricey. The price for a dinner on a Saturday night was $15 and change. All in all, a pretty good buffet. The service was prompt. Selection was decent and plentiful despite them closing 90 minutes after we got there. Online reviews are hit and miss, but that seems standard for any Chinese buffet/restaurant.

The size of these ribs are extremely small. I definitely got the end of the rack and it's pretty disappointing to be honest considering This meal for just one with two sides two meats a dessert and drink came to $38. Disappointing tonight for sure!

Review Visit: March 20th, 2019…read more Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. This fire was caused by barbecue sauce mixed with jalapenos. On a dreary and boring day off from work, I asked my mom out to lunch. Since she loves BBQ, I asked if she wanted to come here. Not long after that, the small lunch grew to include my sister and niece as they were also free and hungry. We pulled up shortly after they opened and must've been the first customers there as the place was empty. Upon entering, we were greeted by one of the chefs and he asked us if it were our first time there, as we had the clueless look on our face on how to order. He told us the layout is similar to a cafeteria. You order your main meal with him and then you slide down and get your sides/extras from the second chef. At the end of that is the cashier. I have to say that at every stop, the staff was patient and courteous to us ordering our food. The menu is posted behind the food counter, so you can peruse it while deciding what you want to eat. Once you are done paying, you carry your food to a table of your choice. If you ordered wings or anything that needed cooked, they will bring it out to your table. We all sat down and immediately dug in to our food. I got up to get ketchup for my fries and noticed they had jalapenos available. So, I snagged some of those for my pulled pork sandwich. That was a mistake but a good one. Hot hot hot! The first bite was the fire being started. By the 3rd or 4th bite, my mouth was ablaze. Between the jalapenos and the mixed bbq sauce (combination of hot and mild, I believe), my sister asked if I needed the fire department. I politely declined as I downed my soda and took some deep breaths to extinguish the five-alarm fire in my mouth. My mom got the 'Cue Shoe, which is their version of a horseshoe. She was in love after the first bite. My niece got some mild barbecue wings and chili fries. She didn't seem too excited about the wings until she got some hot sauce to dip them in. My sister got one of the turkey sandwiches and also fell in love after the first bite. She was so impressed that she wants to come back for dinner on her birthday. Price-wise, this place is cheap for the quality you get. My meal was $9 for a sandwich, two sides, and a drink. If you want, you can order just the a sandwich for as little as $4.99. I've been to a few barbecue places and this one wins on both price and quality. As for the restaurant itself, it has a heavy Texas theme. Texas license plates all over the walls. Wood floors, walls, and ceilings. Southern hospitality from the staff. On the back wall, they had one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile. A mosaic made of beer bottle caps. You can see it in the gallery below. All-in-all, it was a great way to spend the afternoon with the family. We left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Those smiles may be hidden behind the barbecue sauce left on our cheeks from the food.
