Golden Bamboo must have been owned by the same family for over 40 years now. My grandparents used to take my dad in there when he was young.
I also remember growing up and going here all the time. I remember sitting on the stalls on the one side waiting for the takeaway and thinking how high up I was. I recently went back here a couple of months ago, after not going for years. The staff were still the same, just older of course! But it was great to recognise them. The stalls also seem really low down now, compared to when I was younger. There's also a distinctive, once-alive turtle hung on the wall, which I also remember vividly as a child. This turtle remains a symbolism of the past to me, because obviously now it would be illegal and be seen as cruelty to kill a turtle just to be hung up. So that really does show you how old long they've bee in business!
The food at Golden Bamboo is very distinctive compared to other Chinese takeaways. I love the noodles here, they have this extra favour to them that I've never experienced anywhere else. Which is great! This has to be my favourite takeaway to go to, because of the memories, and great tasting food. read more
