Hyped up and so overrated! Very disappointed and would never go back. We got the cod & fish,…read moreseafood box and garlic mushrooms. Opened the box with the mushrooms to find then literally laying in a layer of grease. I used 2 napkins to soak up the grease. The mushroom themselves were a dark brown, almost burnt to a crisp, and when you bite into them your mouth was soaked in grease :((. The seafood box: calamari was the opposite of the 'dead' mushrooms and pale as a ghost. Cod super greasy batter and not eatable like the mushrooms although the cod inside was flaky and good. Haddock was the best thing in the box both in flavour and batter, which was different to the cod. Fish and chips: batter same as above, very greasy but cod inside was good. The chips were totally bland.

This was one of my favorite meals we had in Ireland. We were only in Killybegs for one night and…read morenone of other restaurants looked very good. The guy at the visitor's center told us about this place so we decided to give it a try. She is known for having the best seafood chowder in County Donegal (she won a competition). We tried to get it, but unfortunately, she was leaving for vacation the next day and had run out so we didn't get to try it. We all got the seafood box so we could try a little bit of everything. It came with calamari, scampi, haddock, cod, and chips. The calamari was the best I've had. The scampi was also delicious. The regular fish which I believe was haddock was very good. The fish sticks which I think were the cod were just ok. The chips were pretty good. You can also choose your sauce so I got the tartar and the pink sauce. I would probably do the scampi and calamari (half and half) next time. Everything is made fresh, so after you order you wait about 10 minutes for your food. It's cash only and there is an ATM across the street. There is no seating so we ate at the picnic table outside the visitor's center. We had fish and chips several times on our trip and this was definitely the best we had. If you are in the area, this is definitely a must try!

I'd read some glowing reviews of this fish & chip shop so I kept it in mind. I don't eat this food…read morevery often now but I did eat a lot of it in my early teens, but that's a whole other story. So pulled up into the car park, two degrees outside and 'are we human or are we dancer' coming out of the radio as I turned off the engine. First duty was into a nearby supermarket for a soft white bread pan. When it's fish n chips it has to be tea, bread and lots of butter. A good sprinkling of salt on the fish n chips too. Carbs, animal fats and hardly a healthy calorie in sight. So into the chip shop to a friendly welcome from a man, certainly didn't look like Paula but it's a funny old world so I thought better than to ask. Two fish and chips please (or as we used to say: two fish suppers) £11.60 was required. I checked it was cod and he almost seemed taken aback at my question - he said, 'of course'. I waited a bit pleased that the food was being cooked to order. The portions of cod were huge, with fresh, white chunky and skinless meat. If you aren't sure how fresh cod tastes try it here as it's very fresh. I thought each chip portion was a tad mean but once home and in the plate it was generous enough. The food is cooked in beef dripping. There is no substitute good enough, groundnut, peanut, rapeseed, olive, corn oils none come close. The batter was towards thin and I like that, and to be fair the food sat in a take out bag until I got home and put out the plates and do on. Despite this the food was excellent, perfectly good food and still quite warm. A chip buttie was a must. Now I've eaten some of the finest foods on earth but I gotta tell ya the taste of a white soft pan bread chip buttie with a bit of salt and a generous slap of butter is wonderful made all the better with hot tea. The glowing reviews are right, it's a great place. The next time I want very good fish & chips I know where to go. Maybe next time I'll sit in and have it at its very best. Who knows now that oil prices have fallen the prices here should drop too.
