After watching the 2025 comedy-drama film, Nonnas, on Netflix, I definitely wanted to visit Enoteca…read moreMaria now known as the Nonnas of the World Community in Staten Island, New York.
On Sunday, October 18, 2026, I would be driving back to NY from Maryland and would pass through Staten Island so I checked earlier in the week if there were any reservations available. Each seating lasts 2 hours starting at 12:30pm through 7:30pm. I joined the waitlist for 12:30pm and I would receive a notification via text and/or email linking back to the reservation page to try to book a reservation once more on a first come first serve basis if there is a cancellation. Since I didn't get any notifications on Saturday, I decided to check the reservation website and saw that reservations for 2:30pm were available and I secured it. At the time I made the reservation, my credit charge was charged $87 per person, which includes a three-course meal, tax and tip.
On the day of the reservation, I arrived to Nonnas of the World Community about 10 minutes before our reservation and found street parking. I went into the intimate 35-seat room and provided my name and was told to go back outside and wait a few minutes. At 2:30pm, we were seated and Nonna Rosa came to our table and greeted us. I immediately felt so warm and welcomed. Also, we made acquaintances with our table neighbors. Our server came and explained the menu. The menu consists of specialities from today's Nonna's and additional items on the house menu. Our reservation includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Any wine, beer, coffee, and additional items can be ordered as well and paid with cash or Venmo.
Nonna Sabbia from Italy was featured today with an appetizer: Panzanella Salad and two entrees and Nonna Yumi from Japan had Eggplant Dengaku. Our orders for appetizer, entree, and dessert were taken all at once by our server. I ordered the Burrata, Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa, and Basque cheesecake. My husband ordered the Panzanella Salad, Spezzatino di Manzo, and Nutella Cheesecake. Food came out fairly quickly. A plate of focaccia and salad came out first. The focaccia was very soft and tasty. Then, the appetizers came out and it was very refreshing. I've had burrata a few times, but this was probably the freshest and best burrata I had. Then, Nonna Sabbia brought out our entrees and explained the ingredients. I really enjoyed the Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa; the pasta, sausage, and broccoli rabe was delicious. My husband's Spezzatino di Manzo was not as stewy as he hoped and some parts of his meal were uneven temperatures, but the beef was tender. The Basque cheesecake was smooth and creamy. The portions were a great size.
Nonna Rosa and our server came by a few times to check on how we were doing and were both very friendly. I had a wonderful and memorable dining experience at Nonnas of the World Community. I loved the story, the mission, and the whole environment.
