had a very disappointing experience here. The food had an unpleasant taste and seemed poorly prepared, to the point that I couldn't finish my meal. I was hoping for much better, especially since it's a local restaurant. I think there is room for improvement in the quality of the ingredients, seasoning, and overall preparation. The lady is very rude in the front. Why offer free coupons if you don't honor them? She walked off while we weren't finished ordering and charged us more than what the prices listed are. We asked for extra sauce she said she put it on there and there is nothing at all. ON TOP of not honoring the coupons we asked to use that are on the actual menus. We will NOT be back. read more

This place is a hit or miss, sometimes you get good food, other times not so good. I wish they would stay more consistent.

I travel from Florence and this is by far the best Chinese in the area. I'm not sure if they are under new management however the owner is polite and kind. The food is amazing. I highly suggest this place. I normally order chicken broccoli, crab Rangoon with pork fried rice and it's always great. Was on the hunt for boba and did have a craving for Chinese, which is next door to the boba place... boba place was closed for the day :[... anywho!? I ordered a lot: Sweet and sour pork with pork fried rice: bite size servings and the pork fried rice wasn't dry. There was a good amount of flavor and wasn't overly seasoned, which is what I prefer. Egg Drop Soup: light, fragrant, and with a hint of ginger. It was really good, for how cold it was out. Scallion Pancakes: were a little burned/overcooked and a bit oily. Not sure if this is how it's normally, but it was still tasty with the sauce. It wasn't totally a ruin. Finally, the reason why I hunt for Chinese, FRIED CRAB RANGOON!!! The food is without question the best anywhere in the Burlington/Columbus area. The dumplings are more filling than dough with a lot of flavor. The food is always fresh and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. This has become our go-to spot for Chinese. read more

I LOVE that they actually use bean sprouts and fresh ingredients. Gold Garden is a middle of the road Chinese/American shop in the Homestead Plaza II, in Columbus, NJ. It has 5 tables for those choosing to eat in. The front of the house is a large counter where the wife of this H & W team holds court with efficiency and a smile. The menu is what you would expect. My Sesame Chicken was served on a plate (rather than in Styrofoam), with Fried/White/Brown rice options, as well as soup or soda. At $5.65 it was one of the better prices I have seen for this luncheon combo. Taste-wise, it was okay, with a nice pile of chicken breaded, fried, and smothered in semi-sweet goo. You know ... the way you have seen it a million times. Plenty of rice made earlier in the day. The plaza where it is located also has ice cream and cupcake stores right next door, for those seeking things from all the nutritious food groups. It's hard to find a bad Chinese place , but after sitting here , I had to take my food to go to avoid being rude. We ordered the sesame chicken and fried chicken combo meals. The chicken tasted as if it was old,frozen , and fried too fast . The egg roll had a thick layer of wrapper and also tasted frozen . The food was tasty, but not extraordinary. For finer Chineese dining, I would recommend Asian House in nearby Florence, but this good take out. Also, the staff the was friendly. I've gotten take out from Gold Garden about a half dozen times, just to make sure that my assumptions were accurate. And I've come to the same conclusion every time, so here it is. The food is middle of the road. It's not the greatest, but it's by far not the worst. I've gotten some kind of lo mein every time I went and it's inconsistent. Sometimes it was really good and others it was "meh" and had a funny after taste. The same for any shrimp or beef dish. Chicken has been consistently good however, as are the egg rolls, wonton soup, dumplings and pork dishes. One thing that has been overly consistent however is the good customer service. They are very friendly at Gold Garden and very quick with your order. They don't stand out as the best or worst for Chinese food, so if you keep moderate expectations you will be fine. read more

To start, the food itself was mediocre in the way all american Chinese food is. Lacked any great flavor, salty, and mostly brown. Bonuses were that the tofu in the vegetarian tofu and vegetables was a fairly good size, not overdone, and actually tofu- not bean curd. To an extent it was potentially fresher, in the sense of the vegetable's colorings, than some of the other local Chinese places. Three of our dishes asked for the omission of onions, yet only one of the three dishes actually arrived without onions. The breaking point for us was that two of the dishes had strands of the same sized black hair (those of us eating were blonde). We called to tell- not in an effort for any compensation- but more in an attempt to notify the owner/workers so that they can take measures to prevent this in the future. One dish with one hair may have been understandable, but two contaminated dishes clearly shows they are not taking proper sanitary precautions. It makes me wonder how else the food in contaminated in a way we cannot see... The woman we spoke to was very apologetic and offers us free dishes in compensation, but this was not a consolation. We can not bring ourselves to accept anything as we will not be eating there again. read more

We read that this place was excellent and decided to try it. Unfortunately, we should have looked at the date on the reviews. This Chinese restaurant has been my go to for years. Even though there's a Chinese restaurant two minutes from my house my husband and I still drive over 20 mins to Gold Garden. It's definitely worth the drive each and every time and I've never been disappointed with my order. Pork dumpling are homemade and amazing and a must have (the sauce is a delicious combo). Our go to for Chinese despite others being closer. Food usually tastes fresh. But recently we had an issue with food being over cooked and rice being hard ( like old rice or maybe bottom of the rice cooker). Eating there is not to bad portion sizes are huge if you eat in. We tried Gold Garden a few weeks back and we are now hooked. We live two towns over and we still take the extra time to drive there to pick-up diner, even though we have a Chinese restaurant in walking distance from our house.
