Always nothing but problems at this place. I've came to this location three times because it is only steps away from my apartment, but after today I won't step foot into this circus again. Today I called ahead, asked if Apple Pay would be okay, I was told it's fine "we'll make it work" I expressed to them I am going to leave work early and asked for assurance if Apple Pay would suffice. I was assured it would be. I get into the chair, mention to my barber the guy on the phone said Apple Pay was okay, my barber said no, and told me he would have to cancel the appointment. I asked for a quarter inch off and come back essentially bald with open ends everywhere. Not sure the quality of their cuts is consistent. My appointment was 4:25 pm 7/29/24. I showed up on time. RayJ was not there and did not show up. I waited 30 minutes. The female barber said she did not know if he was coming in. I decided to try them out because the barbershop is usually busy. I'm thinking they must be good. I also like the pictures of customers' haircuts. I will not go back. Arrived a couple of minutes before my appointment start time. Checked in with one of the barbers and he asked me to sit down and wait. 10 minutes past my appointment time and I'm still waiting while one of the barbers is just hanging out. I check in again with the guy who asked me to sit down and he tells me I need to wait for ANOTHER 10 minutes. I politely remind him that my appointment time was more than 10 minutes ago and that's when he began yelling at me. Saying that he can't just leave his client mid-way through a haircut, which I understand, but I also told him that my appointment was supposed to be with anyone who's available. He raised his voice again and asked me to just wait. I'm a conflict-averse person but at that point, I decided not to be disrespected like that and just walked out. He shouted, "Have a good day" behind me in a sarcastic and mocking tone. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day, or if he was discriminating against me because I didn't look like the usual clientele of this barbershop. I was in today to get a haircut after seeing the shop as I walked by. In my case, I got a fade on the sides and some of the bulk on the top removed. All in all, I'd say it was a positive experience. The barber I had (younger guy) was skilled in his craft. I loved that he knew how to use the clippers to do the fade. Also, he did a great job with using the blade to cleanup the nape area. The $20.00 charge for the haircut seemed reasonable. I tipped $5.00 just because it seemed right. That said, I have a few sugguestions for the owner. Mind you, none of this takes away from my giving 5-stars. 1. Get a coat rack for people to hang thier jackets. 2. Get more than two chairs for waiting. When I was there, only two were available. Please people don't want to sit on window-silll pillows. 3. The owl picture is cool. Why not put more of that stuff up? 4. Put up a sign somewhere that tells people your prices. Finally, know that the neighborhood you are in has lots of LGBT folks. A pride sticker in the window will tell people you support the community. Andrew has been cutting my hair every 2 weeks for over a year now, and if I have it my way, for years to come. Reasons why (in no particular order): 1) Attention to Detail - Andrew painstakingly goes over his work before sending me on my way to make sure that my haircut is perfect. I've never once gotten home and found a stray hair that was missed. I honestly believe that he cares more about the way my hair looks than I do. 2) Personal Relationship - He takes the time to get to know his clients. Each time I'm in, he checks in with me on personal details from our previous conversation weeks ago. It's amazing to me that with all of his clients, he's able to keep it all straight. It truly feels like I'm hanging out with a friend for 30 minutes who happens to be cutting my hair. 3) Price - I'd happily pay double for the quality and service, and haven't found better pricing for a true barber in Chicago. 4) Ease of Access - Simple, to the point, no frills, online scheduling system. 5) Listens - The first time I saw him, I described the look I was going for and he took it slow, making sure the length was right, etc... After that, he committed it to memory and now I just sit down in his chair and he cuts it perfectly every time. I've lived in 9 different cities in the last 10 years and I can confidently say that Andrew is the best barber I've come across. He is very precise and articulate to making sure your haircut looks the way you want. I just showed him a picture and he knocked it out as shown.
