My mom wanted to travel through South America, down to Argentina and then hop on a cruise to Antarctica. I've always seen deals for cruises to Antarctica from Argentina. So I had her call Albert for some advice on this type of journey. To my surprise, my mom had a terrible phone conversation with Albert. Not only was Albert rude to her, he criticized her for supposedly confusing him with her questions. The most shocking part was when he questioned why she would travel to Antarctica and that it was super hot! Um, really? I have no idea why he would think Antarctica is hot. Last I checked, it's -24 degrees Fahrenheit down there! And this was just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended). He then proceeded to tell her that he was really busy and that she was wasting his time. Told her to just go to his office instead. I understand if she's not a customer and just a random caller with questions. However, she was a referral from a customer. Even if she was just a random caller, why be rude to the person? The whole "Antarctica is super hot" comment was just perplexing. A travel agent made this comment...a travel agent. And to make her feel stupid for asking about cruises to Antarctica was unnecessary considering these cruises DO exist. The poor treatment of a referral from a regular customer was very disappointing. After the cruise, We wanted to rent a car and drive through Italy, see Pompeii, drive to Barcelona, Milan, Florence and Tuscany and Valencia Spain. In addition we asked her to book a gondola ride in Venice and we wanted cooking classes in various Italian locales and in Spain. We learned how to make Paella in Valencia at a country retreat outside of Valencia. The hotel accommodations were outstanding, each place we visited had breakfasts included in our hotel stays. In Madrid there was a change in our travel dates that the hotel did receive. We contacted Susannah by message on the mobile application Viator. She took care of the change in hotels immediately and sent us confirmation on the hotel reservation. She found a gorgeous villa in Tuscany where we had outstanding sunsets from our second story spacious living room, bedroom with a huge bathroom suite!! We went on a truffle hunt, learned how to make stuffed raviolis and we were treated like royalty at every hotel we stayed. Susannah did an Exceptional job coordinating our trip, from airfare from Los Angeles to Rome, to Milan to Barcelona. The pickup of our rental car at both locations was seamless! Driving to each of the hotels in Europe and trying to find parking for our car was not necessary. She picked hotels that had parking garages that the porters took the car and parked it until we left. We highly recommend Susannah Tomlin, she is taking care of our next trip in May 2025! She is an outstanding travel agent!!

Anita's unprofessional behavior, explosive temper, and outright disrespect throughout the process were absolutely unacceptable. AVOID ANITA AT ALL COSTS. Working with Anita was an ongoing source of stress and dread for our entire group. From the beginning, Anita made repeated errors and failed to provide critical details to us. When we would reach out with any questions or clarifications, she was immediately frustrated and would answer with an attitude. Unfortunately, we let these early red flags slide and continued working with her. But as soon as our initial deposit was paid, the very low level of service that she was providing completely disappeared. She became increasingly impatient, defensive, disrespectful, and hostile. Our questions were treated as annoyances. Requests for very basic and necessary information were met with a condescending attitude. Communication was all over the place--sometimes we were bombarded with irritated back-to-back texts and voicemails, other times she would vanish for weeks, only to respond with frustration on our first follow up. The most disturbing aspect was Anita's explosive temper. As we neared the end of the process, she became less concerned about hiding her agitation and disrespect. Our final list of questions triggered a series of rage-filled phone calls from Anita. She called us several times yelling inappropriately at the top of her lungs, saying belittling and disrespectful comments, and using an extremely angry and hostile tone that was completely uncalled for. After that, we reached out to the company to switch agents. Unfortunately, they said we couldn't switch agents after booking; but one of the agents offered to act as a liaison so we would not have to deal with Anita directly. We also provided feedback about our experience to the company directly; however, since Anita is apparently an affiliate/contractor (not technically an employee), they said they could not hold her accountable for her actions. This wasn't a simple personality clash or a style mismatch. Anita completely failed to show a basic level of decency and respect, emotional regulation, and professionalism. No one should ever be treated the way we were treated. I'm sharing this review so others don't have to go through what we did. We will not be recommending Anita or this travel agency to anyone.

Not very knowledgeable, misinformed us of several details about our Japan group tour and not very…read moreorganized. This agency surely have a lot of work to do! Flight was not included in the tour, we were told to secure our own flight arrangement! This is rather bizarre, people use travel agencies to make the whole process, easy and cohesive. That's just the beginning! Here's more: 1) Luggage transfer: We were told no worries, our luggage was going to be checked in through our final destination to Akita. However, the moment we checked in at LAX we were told differently. We actually had to pick them up and take it to the terminal for the connecting flight. 2) Ritz made it sound easy, told us that upon arriving in Tokyo, the gate to the connecting flight to Akita is just "a few steps away" from terminal 3 to terminal 1. Wrong again. To get from terminal 3 to 1, we had to take a shuttle bus, which was about a 5 to 10 minute ride. Keep in mind, we had our check in luggage with us, take it up to the bus and back down to the next terminal. 3) Currency: Ritz's representative told us "don't worry about it just use your credit cards". This was very misleading, because a lot of places in Japan accepted cash payment only. Needless to say, those who did not exchange currency prior to the trip had to scramble to exchange cash while in Japan. 4) The guide seemed green - can use better crowd management skills. While leading the group towards the bullet train station, she did not make sure that everybody is following and accounted for. One got separated from our group and until we told her that somebody was missing, she had no clue! We had to suggest to her to please occasionally stop and make sure everybody was still together. Navigating through a sea of people getting on the bullet train is not easy and keeping the group together should be top of a tour guide's mind. 5) the boat ride to Lake Tazawa was canceled due to inclement weather. The agency was not thoroughly prepared for a Plan B. We were brought to a samurai town to "visit" 3 Samurai houses - but as it turned out, we were only going to see the houses from the outside. Entrance fee to the houses were not included. A few of us who chose to go in paid for our own entrance fees. The rest went back to the bus to wait. As of this writing, we are waiting to hear if the group will be refunded for the cancellation of the boat trip. The group's overall sentiment is disappointment and to never use this agency going forward. If you choose to, we recommend you ask a lot of questions and doublecheck the information they give you.

He even gave us money to use the toilet when we hadn't exchanged any of our money into Euros/Pounds yet! (They make you pay to use the loo in Europe!) We took the 17 day tour of Europe. The countries we visited during this tour were Italy, France, Britain, Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Belgium! The tour was awesome and its a shame they don't offer it anymore (at least not what I can see on their website). They might offer it though because I remember the tour was only advertised in their brochures but not on their website. So make sure to call them to double check! The tour was approximately $3000 for all those countries and included many meals! It was such a deal! Our main transportation to Europe was by plane, but travel to the adjacent countries were by bus or high speed train (Eurorail). The tour was mostly an Asian tour and our guide spoke Mandarin and English, so I did not have any trouble understanding what was said. The only thing I would have changed were the many meals at Chinese restaurants. Unless we did their optional tours, where an ethnic meal of the country we were visiting was offered, all other meals were at Chinese restaurants! This was mostly because many of the people on our tour were Chinese/Asian elderly people (and I guess they like what they are accustomed to?) Thankfully I did not get sick from eating any of the food which is an indication that the restaurants Ritz Tours took us to were clean and sanitary! (I have a sensitive stomach) Overall (in 2008), I thought Ritz Tour offered a very organized and well planned tour! I'm so grateful I got to visit all those countries! Quick update: Just read the filtered reviews for this business and Kelly C indicated that there are two types of tours with Ritz. One tour is for the Chinese speaking Americans (the one I went on apparently...) going to Asia and Europe (ritztours.net) and the other is towards English speaking Americans going to Asia (ritztours.com). Check out her review. It was flagged (dunno why?) but very thorough on how the tours are like.
