The owner can be a little much, as others have noted on here, but that's the kind of zany personality I suppose you can expect from a vintage shop owner. She seems to want to be helpful to her customers and points out all the deals and special items - although I could see how this might come across as overbearing. She helped me find a cameo necklace after I inquired, which I ultimately passed on, but I appreciated that she took the time to show it to me. The signage for some of the deals is a little unclear. I overheard a customer pick up rings from the "buy four get one free" section and then be told that those rings weren't part of the sale... definitely very confusing. After several minutes of sorting through, I managed to find a pendant, a necklace, and two rings that I absolutely adore. The total was just under $15 which was a steal considering, upon further inspection, one of the rings ended up being 14k gold. I'll return!

I've been here twice and picked up long-sleeved pearl-button jean Wrangler and pineapple shirts; a Hawaiian short-sleeve Pierre Cardin shirt from the 60s-70s; and and a tan 80s sweater collar puffer vest (as the employee said, "It's back to the future"). I'm always scouting for strange gifts to get people, and I'm a sucker for vintage clothes and used art books. The think with antique stores is that you're hoping that whoever is stocking the store has the same aesthetics and interests as you. For me, Sturgis Antiques knew me on that deeper level. While I love a good store chock-full of things, Sturgis is less crowded and instead has a seriously well-curated stock of pretty much all the things I would want from super cute floral-patterned dresses to Native American jewelry... and toonsss of art books! Beyond your typical Monet or Picasso books, you'll find some rare picks as well. Looking for "A Clinical Atlas of Venereal Skin Diseases"? They definitely have it. Books on occultism? You betcha. I ended up scoring a sweet Alex Katz book for a steal (yea, I totally price-checked with Amazon and they beat those prices). My partner and I have been venturing into Hampden recently. Charlotte Elliott was one of our finds…read moreyesterday. It's a great little vintage shop. I was pulled in by the bookstore next door. We spent about an hour in there. There's two levels, where books are well presented and deals featured. You walk through the shelves, and you'll see the different genres featured and bins with sale items clearly marked. The upper floor has poetry, photography, gardening, and cookbooks. The street floor has fiction, science books, and women's literature. These are just the genres that I remember. The other side of the store has antiques and other well curated items for sale. You can tell that the owners take a lot of pride in the presentation of their store. I loved it! I recommend anyone in the area to stop by and check it out.

Don't get me wrong, I take no issue with charging more for better brands, but prices between $60-$75 are unreasonable for a charity thrift store. Goodwill may do the same, but not to the same extent. This is NOT a thrift store - it is more on par with consignment prices. I just don't like that they get these clothes donated and then mark them up and call themselves an 'affordable thrift shop'. It's false advertising and frankly - especially considering their likely exemption from taxes - a little greedy.

Now, with the 75% off deal, things were reasonable. I got a dress, a necklace, and a jacket. The store was very clean. The women at the counter took a long, long while to figure out the cash register.
