The roots were exposed above the ground and a lot underground. Dan came by and gave us a reasonable estimate. We weren't in a hurry and he said he would find an available time in the near future. He showed up a few weeks later. We did not have to call him again like we have had to do with many contractors who promise and then never show. He and his helper got the big root grinder off his trailer and started the nasty, dusty job. He spoke with me before he started going over exactly what we wanted and he made suggestions which we agreed to. Then he did exactly what we agreed to. He used protective boards to avoid sending rock and/or pieces of roots in to our house, fence, or shrubs. They cleaned up the pieces including the rocks that we have in our yard all over. He only asked for the agreed estimated price. Dan and his helper were both friendly and professional. We would certainly recommend his service to others and we would have him do any tree service we might need in the future.

That did not make the cut for winning our bid. My father had his own tree company for years, Z Trees, I went with, helping, so I am a bit particular what I want plus one tree was on our neighbor's property and leaning over our roof. I do with that rate them very high. They are an arborists unlike three other companies bids. If you have big trees please do give them a chance to bid your job.

I never removed a tree before, and the city permit application needs some docs like site plan which I am not familiar. They helped me a lot during the whole process, made files I needed for the permit and finally got the permit approved (thanks god the city didn't ask for the arborist report). In addition to the branch removals, tree shaping and trimming, Matthew took the time to replace an old cable on our biggest locust that he saw was cutting into the bark with a superior cabling system. Despite all the heavy branches that needed trimming, there was no damage to anything and cleanup was above and beyond.
