This is one of our favorite restaurants in the country! We have been here probably 4 or 5 times…read moresince it opened. We have a place not far from here but live full time in Texas. My wife was spending some time up here and drove up to surprise her for her birthday! Reservations at the counter so we could watch Chef Geno work his magic! The food is usually spectacular and tonight did not disappoint! We split the Caesar Salad to start which was plenty. And then I had the Pasta Rags and my wife had the Pasta Carbonara. Both were as good as they looked! Perfection! No splitting dessert! I had the Tiramisu and she had the Chocolate Cake. Both to die for! It's byob so bring a nice bottle of wine and round out the experience. As Chef Geno says..."Cheaper than a plane ticket to Italy!"

The bad: The wait staff was not very engaged. I wanted this review to be about the food but that just wasn't meant to be. The Ugly: I am very well travelled on 3 continents. I've dined elegantly as well as from street vendors and I have NEVER had service that was this off putting to the point of being overtly rude, and I am an American who has eaten in France and doesn't speak much French. When we wouldn't sit at the bar, even though the main area was only 1/4 occupied They moved our party of 2 into the side room with chairs up on tables. It went downhill from there. Due to this, it wasn't possible to really enjoy what should have been a fine meal. I will say it is a wise policy to ask for payment and tip ahead of this type of service before it is provided.

In fact, it is a domestic beer! Also, for a substitution pepprocini peppers instead of green peppers we got charged five dollars extra. It wasn't explained to us that they don't do that normally which is what I should've been informed of in the beginning. The server did apologize though. She did get it taken off of our bill which was appreciated. Food was OK, but once the Customer Service experience starts to break down, it just doesn't taste as good as it probably would've. We were excited to try this place because we saw a lot of good reviews, but didn't think it was as good quality as most of the reviews stated.

The restaurant was very clean and had a pleasant vibe, with lots of interesting pictures on the walls. Even the bathroom was spotless, which is always a good sign. Today instead of ordering the daily lunch special like we normally do my wife got the soup and salad (I think soups are a new item here) and I ordered chicken Parmesan. The side salads you get are pretty large. We don't like tomatoes peppers and olives so ours are pretty plain. She had Caesar and I had regular. Both came with lots of cheese and mine had bacon. They do give you a pretty small container of dressing, but I guess that is kind of a good thing. Soup choices were tomato or potato and she chose potato. She thought it was a bit underdone. My chicken parm came with a half sized serving of pasta, which was pretty large. I was so full from just eating the salad and chicken parm I took the pasta home. I've had the baked meatballs too and both dishes are pretty similar. Lots of cheese. The meatballs could use more sauce, but are limited by the baking dish. I like them both well enough to have had them multiple times.
