Nick's Chicken House & Pizzeria - Slices of Hawaiian and meat lover's pizzas

It takes them a while to make one of these maybe because it's so thick anyhow it was ready when they told me it would be. It's such a thick crusted pizza. It just doesn't seem to have as much flavour as it should. The sauce doesn't stand out. And it's just sort of blah with all those toppings. But hey, people in the area seem to love it. This place has been open since 1969. $37.90 for a 9" pizza seems pretty high. But it does weigh a lot. So if you look at per lbs it's likely a great deal.

The large meat lover's was $47.40 and the large Hawaiian was $44.85, per the online menu. There were for a birthday dinner as a special occasion to splurge a little. The meat lover's had pepperoni, meatballs, bacon, and Italian sausage. The Hawaiian had sweet ham, pineapple, and mushrooms. Both were really tasty, lots of cheese and toppings and thick crust. The crust was really crispy. Both were delicious and filling, heavy - I had two pieces and I was stuffed. We had a homemade salad on the side, but there's also salad on the menu. I think salad is the only veggie item and no fried zucchini sticks or mushrooms. Next time I'd like to try their pressure-fried chicken that they also specialize in - something with "chicken house" in its name has to be good, right?

Strange things are happenin lately, folks.... This is an adorable lil local spot that absolutely fills a need. But. Too expensive for the cheap ingredients they use! I wouldn't have minded those prices for better quality pizza, or that pizza for a much cheaper price. But as it was, the nasty costco-like generic pepperoni on the pizza, the uninteresting sweet thin tomato sauce and the obviously cheap quality cheese (possibly not even mozzarella) made for a disappointing buy at that price. The dough wasn't bad, actually. The fries were actually really delicious, though they looked unappealing. Definitely the reason they're called the Fry Guys and not the Pizza Guys. Service was friendly and quick enough for us obviously out-of-towners. I would definitely give them a 2nd chance if I was camping at Bonnechere again and it was raining again. But 1- I wouldn't order pizza again and 2- I certainly wouldn't go more than 5 minutes out of my way for this. There has to be better. P.s. I seem to recall it was cash only, but it's possible I'm mistaken. So maybe bring cash just in case.
