South Indian cuisine but not just vegetarian they also serve meat too. Located in a busy shopping center they have a nice patio and pretty big inside seating area with booths and tables. Service was good and they were very polite. There was something about this place that just didn't sit right. Not sure what it was. We all ordered dosas with different fillings. A south Indian staple. Crispy thing pancake type but paper thin stuffed with usually potatoes but here they had so many different things to pick from, eggs, cheese, chicken tikka, etc . I had a masala dosa which was traditional spicy potato filling served with chutneys and Dahl. Others on the table had the chicken tikka masala and the chicken keema which is ground chicken . They were all tasty. The Dahl dipping sauce was good. The chutneys also tasty. The dosa itself was very oily and didn't stay crispy like others I've had before. This was kinda disappointing and I didn't end up eating most of it because it was soggy. The filling was also nice and spicy. We all kinda felt that way about the dosas. Also had a plain naan, which was kinda flat not puffy and crispy, which makes me believe they don't have a tandoor to make naan like most places do. Shame really . We also tried the medu vada, served with Dahl to dip into also these are fried dough but spiced . They were ok. Nothing spectacular. Anyway they have a pretty extensive menu and seem to have a good take out business . Probably not a return here for me though. read more

Godavari seems to be a local Indian spot for people. It is a bit out there from Charlotte, but a solid choice if near University City. The inside had enough seating for people and service was good. Although I think our server could have paid a bit more attention to us in terms of refilling our water. But it is a fairly chill atmosphere inside. We got the Gobi 65, Chicken 65 Boneless Biryani, Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Mango Lassi. The Gobi 65 at mild spice still had a slight kick to it, but it was very flavorful! I really enjoyed it. The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted very buttery and not as spicy as I wanted it to be (asked for medium spice), so it makes me wonder if they accidentally gave me the wrong dish... like Butter Chicken? Otherwise, it was alright. Lots of bell peppers inside the dish and the chicken was cut into small pieces. The Garlic Naan was super garlicky which I loved and tasted great being dipped in the Chicken Tikka Masala. For the Mango Lassi, it came pre-packaged in this small bottle. It tasted fine, but not as sweet as I wanted it to be. My friend liked the Chicken 65 Boneless Biryani, which came in a massive bowl. Overall, I enjoyed the food here. Although I kind of want to get the Chicken Tikka Masala again and see if it tastes less buttery and more spicy next time. I would come back to try the other items on the menu! read more

Really enjoyed the dosa and vada at Godavari - it is a decent price and overall no nonsense good dosa. I liked their ginger chutney that I've never had before with dosa and their coconut chutney had some peanut in there I think, but both were very good. It's a chill spot for good South Indian food. I've never had the North Indian food here but I'd probably stick to the South Indian menu since it seems like what they are known for. Quick and friendly service. Will be back! read more

I placed an order online and I was so disappointed. I do not like super spicy food and I requested mild and my lamb vindaloo was SO spicy I couldn't eat it. I ate the naan and plain rice, though, and it was good. I wish the instructions for the order had been followed because I would have really liked to try the lamb curry but it was so spicy it wasn't even enjoyable. I tried a few bites and had to skip it. Ordered online for pickup. Online ordering was easy, they have pictures of the food for ordering reference. Pickup was smooth and easy. It's nice and cozy inside. Good for 2 or better for smaller groups of maybe 6-8. The only downside for me is that their mild heat is extremely hot. There was no option online to choose no heat. The food was fresh and flavorful, but even the mild made it extremely uncomfortable to eat. I do recommend and will try again, but make sure I voice my heat preference. read more

Had a wonderful time with new friends. I have lived down the street from this restaurant and had not been before, and so glad I finally got a chance to visit. The service was amazing. We had quite a large party and the staff were so patient and honestly really attentive. Making sure that we were getting our water refilled, patiently reviewing our orders. Even at the end of the night when I asked for a box to pack away my left over rice I was given a fresh box. I appreciated their patience and honestly the size of the dish! I got the vegetarian dish and some extra garlic naan. Didn't take many pics because I was so busy chowing down. Everyone's dish looked so delicious, and it's honestly a move to go family style. Very cozy casual spot that I would be down to return to with a group so I could try more dishes. read more

I think there is change of ownership/ management therefore the food quality n service has deteriorated ...Most of the menu was not available .. there was one lady who was at the reception n was running around serving tables too ..n one guy who came in n out of kitchen serving dishes .. with zero interaction n just dumping dishes at every table n seemed rushed... we literally had half of our meal without cutlery ... we ordered dosas .. dosas were dry n okish .. sambar was very less n did not taste like sambar ... no one cared or was bothered abt if customers liked the food or no or needed something more ... it was crappy food n very transactional service ... never going back .. old godavari was much better n we were a regular ... read more

My family and I decided to check this place out while on vacation. I had the masala dosa, which was good- the chutneys seemed pretty basic but the sambar felt rich. My husband had the mandi chicken pulao and really enjoyed it. The portion was generous, the flavors were good, and the medium spice was sufficiently spicy for him. The variety on the menu is refreshing, especially when it comes to biryani and pulao. My husband's been looking for something new since we returned from India, and this spot was a success in his book. Overall, we recommend it. read more

Very good and tasty! They serve authentic Indian food. If you like Americanized creamy Indian without a strong flavor profile you will not like this place. I ordered Rasam Soup (AMAZING) and Paneer Tikka Masala. The paneer was delicous and clearly freshly made. The service was good, which I don't expect at Indian Restaurants. What a secret find on mallard creek. I walked in around 6pm and it was clean and organized definitely a place worth sitting in for. I ordered takeout but ill definitely be back to dine in. The food was very flavorful and just enough spice. You will need to be able to handle spices to enjoy the food. It was quick service for takeout and easy. Our waiter was SO kind. My mother and I wanted basmati rice with raisins and cashews in it and they made exactly that, personally for us! The menu and portion sizes are good. While the spices smelled good, everything was too hot - likely hot sauce. We ordered medium heat on the Panak Paneer and Navratan Kurma which were so spicy, even after trying to tame heat with nut paste and sour cream the acidic heat remained with a wicked aftertaste burn. Beware of the Butter Chicken - no spice level options and again burns the tongue with an aggressive acidic burn. We love spices; well-balanced and complez flavor profiles are why we choose Indian food. Doubtful we'll try return, which is sad because the Navrata Kurma had such potential and new to us. read more
