Everything was delicious and authentic. The service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a rush, so it wasn't a big deal. I had lunch on the porch with my family a few days ago. This was one of the best restaurant experiences of my life. Amazing food, service and atmosphere and the prices are very reasonable! Everyone I came with enjoyed the lunch. My favorite was the curry with the coconut. The flavors were bold and the what was perfect (we had medium). My daughter, her boyfriend, and I went to the Sunday buffet. While small, the buffet had some of the more popular dishes you might expect- samosas, chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, naan. Everything we tried lived up to expectations. Just the right amount of spice. The only criticisms are with the location and the crowded conditions. Located in downtown Davidson, parking is along side streets requiring a bit of walking. We came on a rainy day so there was that. Also, the dining area is rather small, so we were constantly dodging other diners as well as wait staff. This is a great spot with a really neat atmosphere. This is an older house in historic Davidson that has been renovated and very well done. From walking in the front door and being greeted to the delicious food, I'll be back. The waiter quickly came over to greet me and ask what I'd like to drink. There are many options and two I recommend is a mango lassi or chai. I personally had the korma with garlic naan this evening to try out a flavorful dish. Surprising find in beautiful davidson downtown, the place was busy on a Wednesday evening. We were told entrees might take 40mins due to many online orders but were pleasantly surprised when food actually came within 20mins! The pakors were crispy and served with delicious tamarind chutney. Seekh kebab with spiced onions and biryani served with raita were both yummy although spice level 3 seemed too spicy even for me! Service is fast and very kind, and the outdoor patio space is great. If you only rated them on location, service, friendliness, and atmosphere it would be 5 stars. But the food. The food was very bland. Even the spicy hot level lacked spice and flavor. It was also quite oily, both the dishes and naan (see photo). A cute town, kind people, AND delicious food!? This was my first time exploring the town of Davidson and it was so beautiful. I loved walking around the shops and then stopping to eat at Masala was the cherry on top. I am not the biggest fan of spice and was relieved that this Indian dining spot offered levels of spice from zero to extra hot. I loved the butter chicken with the zero spice, it was still very flavorful and filling! Our server was so kind and helped our table with the menu options (I wish I got his name, because he was THE best!) They had a smaller inside seating area beside their kitchen, and then a bigger outdoor patio. I was happy to sit outside to see views of the town plus the cute twinkly lights on the patio. Overall, I had a good experience here and definitely would love to explore the area more in the future. read more

Love Indian so I'm always looking for a spot for nummy vegetarian food. I was incredibly satisfied with my Lahori Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potato stewed). I was with two other colleagues who got the chicken masala and veggie korma, both of whom were please with their food. The table received a shared bowl of rice that we polished off, and based on how we were checked on, I believe that if we'd wanted more rice, we'd have gotten it. We had a sufficiency. It's late February and cool out, we ate indoors in the front dining room, which was hubbuby but we were still able to hear each other. There is a back room, too. And there's probably a dozen or so four tops. Service was great and they've got tap payment, so it was easy to split the check. I'll bring my hubs next time we visit. read more

I wanted to love this place more honestly. A bit heartbroken to say that I don't feel the need to return. We went for lunch and ordered the Pakora Platter, Mastee Masala, and lamb jefrazi (spelling way off, sorry!), and a garlic naan which was $55 in total for lunch including tip. Since only one piece of naan is in there I'd say that's a little pricey, but we had a sampler to start so I can understand that. The service was solid. Waters refilled on the regular which I love. The platter and the naan were the most flavorful items we ate. I think so much of my "meh" came down to the chicken tikka masala. And look, I get it. Maybe I need to order something more adventurous. But to me, chicken tikka masala is one of the equalizers so if I'm trying a new place I try this first. It just had no flavor whatsoever. All the flavor for me was coming from the naan when I dipped which just doesn't work. When I mixed it with rice and ate it on its own I just tasted blandness. On the flip side, my husband liked his dish. I tried it and I'd say that it had some flavor, but still not as much as I'd expect. I love what they're doing. I've been ordering different menu items to help educate myself on the different Indian dishes and it's been a really tasty experience. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is when I get the naan bread delivered it hardens like it's been microwaved- do you know what I mean? Sometimes when you microwave bread, when it cools down it gets a weird texture - I don't know if they're microwaving their naan or not, but it's the only place where it gets that texture so I think they do. When I order naan from other places it remains soft - not sure what's up. Also, I wish they had menu items similar to Botiwalla (my fav Indian restaurant in CLT) like rolls and sliders. I know it's a little more Americanized, but Lamb Roll at Botiwalla is something I dream about and if Masala Mastee added some items like that I would be eating there much more often. read more

Quaint little downtown Davidson, NC is not necessarily a place you'd expect to find great Indian street food, and in a historic building no less. But Masala Mastee is among the best Indian food we've had not just in Davidson, but pretty much anywhere. If this place was local to us, we'd be regulars. For a small place, they have a big menu, and part of the menu is set up for you to customize the kind of curry, protein and heat level. There were so many things we wanted to try that we ordered a bunch of stuff and took the leftovers home for a second meal. Let's start with the bread. They have a version of naan called kulcha, which is stuffed, in this case with cheese and onion. Super tasty alternative to regular naan -- definitely give it a try! For entrees we had: chicken tikka masala, chicken Railway Station curry, spicy chicken vindaloo and chili chicken. Apart from the vindaloo, we went with medium spice. It was a nice level of heat. Their tikka masala seemed almost more like a korma to me: it was very rich and creamy, with a nice tomato flavor and just a little background heat. One of my favorites! The Railway Station curry was something we'd never seen before in an Indian restaurant. It was fairly mild with a mixture of ingredients cooked down into basically a curry stew. Quite good. The spicy vindaloo did not disappoint in terms of kick. It had potatoes in addition to the chicken, which worked well to offset some of the heat. Finally, the chili chicken was great: perfectly crispy outside, tender and flavorful inside and with a good amount of kick from the chili. Even the basic white basmati rice was very good. We had King Fisher Indian beer (on draft), which paired well with the heat of the food. Service was excellent. If you love Indian food and find yourself in Davidson, NC (worth the little drive from Charlotte), don't miss this place! read more

My husband and I have been itching to try Masala Mastee for lunch since they opened over a year ago. If you are familiar with Sangham in Cornelius, you'll notice a friendly face in the owner (who is the son of Sangham's owner). We noticed that they have added seating since they first opened, so they aren't just a takeout place. We chose to sit on the covered porch, but there is also seating on the front "lawn" and inside the building, across from their main space. You can either order at the counter, or have a server take your order. We chose the latter. Our server was really hustling that day, with almost every table filled. We both started with the dal soup. This one is different from Sangham's version - it's served with crispy fried plantains that have a delicious salty spiced coating. The soup was absolutely delicious! For our lunch entrees, we shared the paneer saag walla (creamy spinach) and lamb with the traditional tikka masala sauce. Presentation was nice, and the portions and flavors were fantastic. The spice level wasn't quite medium, so we might ask for hot the next time. Orders come with a generous serving of basmati rice, and we added one order of butter naan and some raita. The biggest downside was the cost. With lunch pricing and waters for our beverages, we still spent almost $50 for lunch (including the tip). We DID have enough for leftovers for the next day, but this wasn't a cheap lunch. Regardless, we loved the food and will definitely return! read more

After two failed attempts searching for Indian Food in Mooresville, we landed in the heart of Davidson at Masala Mastee! It was date night so atmosphere was of the utmost importance! First of all, Masala Mastee has very cute decor inside and out, so that made a great first impression! It has a clean presentation, too! We always start with an Indian Beer and I was super excited to see a draft Indian Beer listed on the Drink Menu, so of course, that's what I ordered. Sadly, there were no Indian Beers on tap and Kingfisher was not available at all. Server said the list was in process of being redone. We ordered a Taj Mahal instead. I refuse to drink local or Domestic Beer with Indian food when there are so many great Indian Beers. I like Taj Mahal, it is a great lager and pairs well with spicy food. The beers were promptly brought to us with chilled plastic cups. To go with our Indian Beer, we always order Gobi Manchurian and Garlic Naan. We were glad to see it on the menu and went with our usual. The starter order came out pretty quickly and it did not disappoint! This is the BEST Gobi Manchurian that I've ever had! The cauliflower was coated perfectly with the spicy glaze! There was no grease or sauce dripping off of it! We ordered Mild since it was our first visit here and it was delicious! The Garlic Naan was really good, too! An order here is one piece, so I'm glad we ordered two. Garlic Naan is one of my favorite things about Indian Food! Since it was our first visit, we ordered multiple items. My fiancé typically orders Saag Paneer and it was on the menu but he decided to be adventurous and let me choose. From the Street Food list, I chose the Roadside Bhaji and the Vada Pav. I, also, ordered the Raste Ke Biryani with Chicken. The food arrived all at the same time and we were ready for it! The Bhaji were very good! They were my fiancé's favorite! I made a salad with the garnish greens and placed two fritters on top then drenched it with brown dip that came with them. So, so good! These are a MUST TRY for everyone, even if you don't like onions! Not sure what the dip is because it's not mentioned on the menu but it's delicious! Looks like a vinaigrette but not as tart! Next up, we split the Vada Pav. This is like a potato burger on a slider bun and it comes with fries. I was going to skip the bun and the fries but the bun was slathered with a green sauce, so I ate it as is! I am so glad that I did! Very delicious! I do not know what the sauce is because it's not listed on the menu nor are the fries. The fries are good, too, and that's coming from a non-fry eating foodie! I'm not sure I'd get this again but it's worth the taste test, especially for vegans. The Raste Ke Biryani with Chicken was our last taste test and I love it! I cannot remember if I ordered it Mild or Medium but the spice was evident but not overpowering. This dish is a seasoned rice base shredded carrots and chunks of tender chicken throughout. It presents topped with raw red onion slices, as well as caramelized onions. I liked this dish very much! We enjoyed our visit to Masala Mastee! The atmosphere was great! The service and food was really, also! We had leftover Gobi, Bhaji and Biryani to bring home and I'm so glad we did because those are my three favorites from this visit! We loved Indian and decided to stop by and try this spot for lunch while in Davidson. I'm not sure what the normal style of this restaurant is, but it was a little weird when we were there. We sat outside and someone served us, but all of the food came in takeout containers with plastic silverware. We got the Allo Tikka Chaat, Roadside Bhaji, Vada Pav, Kumar's Chettinad with Paneer, Garlic Naan, and a Mango Lassi. The Roadside Bhaji were my favorite thing by far. They were crispy and I loved the spices of the filling. I also really liked the Allo Tikka Chaat. I've had different versions of a Tikka Chaat but this was my first with potato and I liked the combination. The Vada Pav was ok, but I've had better versions of the dish. The portion size was very small too. It only came with one. I found it weird that it was served with fries. It wasn't what I was looking for at an Indian restaurant. Kumar's Chettinad was good and had a lot of paneer. I was hoping the coconut curry would be creamier, but it was mostly tomato based. Our garlic naan was too doughy for my preference. Overall, the food was good, but I feel like it was a bit hit or miss. I think there's better Indian in the Charlotte area, but we did enjoy our meal. read more

The aloo chaat was pretty good and a large portion, but there is better chaat in Charlotte. The person taking our order on the phone and who brought the food out to the car was polite. New Indian spot on Main Street in Davidson. It is in the same building as a new donut shop as well. I came across this restaurant while walking through Christmas in Davidson. There weren't many restaurants opened on a Sunday night, but I'm so glad this one was. It's a small restaurant, with only a few seats inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered my food to go and they texted me about 20 minutes later that it was ready. They have a small patio with heaters! I ordered the tuk tuk samosas, and they were amazing! I loved the sauce that they came with. They were spicy but the sauce was sweet so it was a nice balance. I also had the chicken mastee masala. I like that you have the option to order the food mild, medium or spicy. I ordered it medium and it was perfect. It was a big container of chicken that fed two of us. The chicken was cooked perfectly and it was so flavorful. There was so much sauce, which I loved! The entree also came with a container of rice. Outside, they have a cute Tuk Tuk (type of car common in India) photo-op which you can pose in. It's a nice touch and adds some fun memories to your visit here. read more

I had such a delicious experience with my family for dinner. We went to a great little Indian restaurant nestled in the heart of Davidson called Masala Mastee. Their takeout business is incredible but there is also a room with tables if you decide to eat in. It is a house that has been renovated. The area is small so make certain to get there early. We arrived shortly before the dinner rush and were seated immediately. Our server was attentive to our requests and quite pleasant. Masala Mastee is known for Indian street food which is amazing. We all had traditional meals. I love Tikka Masala and I am happy to say this dish did not disappoint! To be honest, I want to try everything on the menu, that will require several more visits. Yumm!!! we order the butter ckn, which one order served 2 people easily! I ordered an extra side of rice & 2 pieces of garlic naan. We got the samosas which were so good, a tad spicy tho! & we got the pau bhaji which is kinda like a vegetable sloppy joe. & the Gulab Jamun was a delicious dessert, tasted like a fruity pebble donut. This was my first time ordering from an authentic restaurant. I normally just get the frozen butter ckn and garlic naan from trader joe's.
