We wanted a place where learning Spanish would be fun. She was so shy her first class and it was a blessing to see her open up and look forward to Spanish class every weekend. Go Spanish Now kids classes has a mixed age group and it's really cute to see the kids all getting along, playing together, and really getting into the games and music. The teacher, Diomer, is also very kind and supremely patient. Administratively, the school is very professional and easy to communicate with. I really enjoyed learning with María Elisa in the Advanced Spanish class at Go Spanish Now. Our group practiced speaking spontaneously in Spanish. We talked about interesting things that we did, places we went, and daily life. We made friends with each other, as well. The environment was very fun and everyone laughed! We did not have to worry about making mistakes because there were no grades! Also, the instructor taught us new words and answered the many questions that we had while practicing. The textbook, Demystifying the Spanish Subjunctive, was very useful, as well as the fill-in-the blank exercises. I liked how the instructor had each person take turns reading an answer from their homework. María E. motivated the class by her cheerful, enthusiastic, and patient manner of teaching. I was looking for a Spanish class that wasn't expensive and was flexible. I first looked at Berlitz and they were prohibitively expensive, especially for someone not having a job that would foot the bill. When I was taking classes, we met at Panera and Borders. They have classes in Virginia and Maryland. Classes are grouped together based on skill level and usually consist of 3-4 other students. We met once a week for 2 hours. I thought the pace was good. The instructor I had was Nestor and he was a really good instructor. I definitely recommend him. read more

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. You may never get it back. I followed the terms of my contract to rescind the contract. I asked for my refund in a timely manner pursuant to the contract terms. It took me over two weeks to get my money refunded on PayPal. I had to leave multiple messages on the voicemail at the office in Bethesda. I also wrote a letter to the president/owner. It wasn't until I made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau that I got my refund. (If you want to read a bad complaint, go to that website!) I suggest to anyone to read carefully the contract terms before going to the first class. If you need to rescind the contract, you must do it immediately on the day of the first class by email. Takeaway: if after the first lesson you have any doubt about the class's quality, email the school immediately to get out of the contract. Don't wait. The reason I rescinded the contract is my class was too easy for me. This is the danger of signing up for a class with a school that has no placement test. In retrospect I wish that I had asked for the opportunity to sit-in on a class to observe the teaching pedagogy and the content before paying for the course. I recommend going to the Spanish Now office to review the books that teachers use for each of the levels before ordering any of their textbooks through Amazon. I am updating this review to inform you that immediately after posting it, the company withdrew from the BBB. They no longer seek accreditation. Now, complaints to the Better Business Bureau do not matter. You can still see the complaint of another Spanish Now student on the BBB website. Like mine, her complaint was about refunding. You cannot see my complaint. Perhaps there was a way to avoid having my complaint made public by the BBB that involved the company's withdrawal from the BBB. The owner/president did inform me that he had received a letter from the Better Business Bureau regarding my complaint. read more

Maria is an excellent Spanish teacher. Teaching Spanish is so important to Maria, and she takes that responsibility very seriously, while still making classes enjoyable for her students. She is very patient and always has time to answer a question, even if it is the third or fourth time a student asks. Her homework reinforces the material learned in class. I enrolled in an Advanced Beg class on Wednesdays; however, due to my work schedule, I often end up attending the same level of course on Tuesdays. Go Spanish Now has been very gracious with this arrangement. For this reason, I actually feel that I have two professors, Ruth and Johanna. Both are excellent. They are willing to take time after class to review work, hone in on proper pronunciation, and answer any additional questions. Additionally, I find that many of my classmates are farther along with their vocabulary, etc, so the group setting elevates my listening and conversation skills. Finally, my class is located at the Dickens Ave location which is in an actual classroom with a chalk board. read more

I was looking for a place where I can learn Spanish in a small group class with flexible schedule and at reasonable price. That's how I found Spanish Now and I am so happy that I find it. I started as a beginner at level 0 without any knowledge of Spanish. Before I started my first class, I was pretty nervous and had no clue what to do. I came to their Bethesda location, the place was easy to find and parking was easy too. Everyone was very friendly and they greeted me warmly in Spanish even since day 1. I like their idea of being immersed in the environment so u can catch up new words quickly. Enrique,the principle of the school is a very caring, fun and knowledgeable guy. He helped me to find the schedule that suited me perfectly and even I missed two classes, he kindly helped me to make up the sessions accommodating my busy schedule. I feel like they are treating you much more like friends than students. Gonzalo is my instructor and he is one of the most patient teachers I have ever seen. As a rookie student, I have to learn everything from the scratch and of course with lots of silly questions. Gonzalo always tried his best to answer me and he will write down the things that I didn't understand and reviewed them next week until I got it. Learning a new language can be frustrated sometimes and he always encouraged me to do more and follow the baby steps with patience. I have been studied here for 6 months and thanks to Enrique and Gonzalo, my Spanish has improved greatly and steadily. If they can have classes in more locations, that would be better. read more

I've been a student at Spanish Now for nearly six years. I started as an advanced beginner or low intermediate. Now I speak Spanish more-or-less fluently. It is such a gift to be able to communicate in Spanish -- I never have to use a translator in my work and I can socialize with ease in Spanish. I have used multiple strategies to learn the language, but Spanish Now has been a big part of my progress. I've had the same professor throughout my time with Spanish Now - Laura - and she's an excellent instructor who maintains high standards. She prepares a workplan for each 8-week session. There is generally a mix of grammar, reading literature from various Latin American authors, and discussing current events. Some of my fellow students have been in my class for years and there is great camaraderie. We encourage one another and celebrate birthdays. No mistake about it -- learning a language takes time and effort - the results are not immediate. If you stick with it, take full advantage of the class and also study and practice on your own, the results can be transformational. I have had an excellent experience with Spanish Now. I did read some of the comments from others about administrative difficulties in getting a refund. Can't speak to that -- I've been continuously enrolled for years - but can attest to the fact that they have always billed me accurately and I've never had a problem. read more

I've been taking classes at Go Spanish Now for well over a year. I've had three different instructors. Most recently, I've learned with Johanna, my favorite maestra to date. She is a superb instructor -- demanding, challenging, and full of humor. She puts a great deal of planning into her classes which pays off. She emphasizes the necessary skills for an aspiring Spanish speaker: speaking, listening, and writing. Naturally, in a small class of adults, everyone is not on the exact same level in each skill area, but every class is valuable. The office staff, especially Stephania, are excellent. I took eight weeks of the beginner classes and not only loved it, but really felt like I made progress. The format of the class - in public and in my case, at Panera Bread, and mostly conversational is fantastic. Ernesto is an amazing teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn or strengthen their Spanish. He was always on time, professional, patient, energetic and dynamic. I think it's a real challenge to find a teacher that can recognize and adapt to the different learning styles of their students but Ernesto is fluent in doing so. If I could give no stars I would. They don't teach ANYTHING and the instructors are rude. My "teacher" tried teaching me Spanish songs instead of actual Spanish grammar/ vocabulary. Im an adult not a child. Also, this is NOT a way to learn or teach a language. When I politely said this to the instructor, she told me to leave. I then tried to get a refund which they also refused to process. This is a SCAM!!! They should be reported to the better business bureau! read more

I have taken many different Spanish courses at various language institutes and community colleges in the area, but Spanish Now has been the best for me so far for three reasons - 1) Gigi is my favorite Spanish teacher in this area so far. She is fun and dynamic, and I definitely recommend her for advanced students who wish to practice their conversational skills. 2) Spanish Now classes are two-month commitments rather than semester commitments, which works better for my schedule since there are one or two month periods of time where I have to work evenings or I'll be out of town often, so I just don't enroll for that two-month period. 3) Class size is small, which allows more time for everyone to have an opportunity to speak and practice their Spanish. read more

I needed to boost my confidence when speaking Spanish and fine tune my skills. It's been over a year since I've been taking classes here, and my Spanish has definitely improved, but more importantly, I'm having fun! Gigi does an amazing job of personalizing our classes to all our individual needs. She is a great conversationalist, so we are able to practice Spanish in real conversation and contexts. Class size was very small and personal. We had two teachers in the 8 week class. Both were very good and personable. Juan Felipe covered the last two classes and was very thorough and innovative. He went above and beyond to ensure that we grasped the concepts. The classes were set at a pace that l could follow easily and introduced new vocabulary and grammar in each class. A very basic grasp of some Spanish words would help in the beginner class, I think. But, overall a good value! read more

Not a good place to go for lessons. Very informal, unorganized. Teachers don't work from lesson plans and while they are native speakers, they are not teachers. If you have questions about something, they don't know how to answer it and certainly don't have an explanation for grammatical rules, etc. I am an advanced beginner, but would definitely NOT go back here for additional classes. USDA and other institutions are a bit pricier, but definitely worth it if you actually want to learn something. read more

DO NOT REGISTER FOR A COURSE HERE. I registered for a course last November and had to follow up several times by email and phone to find out what was happening. Spanish Now never contacted me. Two weeks or so before the class was to start (early Jan) I realized that I wasn't going to be able to attend most of the Saturday classes so I sent an email to cancel and request a refund. Of course, that was not answered. Finally I managed to get in touch w/ someone and was told that the cancellation/refund policy requires that the student attend the first class. Well, the first calss had already taken place. What is up with that? If you know you can't attend the classes in advance why should anyone be made to attend the first class? I certainly had no plans to purchase the book. Then when I came to accept the fact that I would not get my refund, I attempt to register for another class. I was told on the phone that someone would get back to me. No one ever did. I'm out $245. STAY AWAY. Besides who would want to attend a language class in Panera's Bread? read more
