Yes, this place is more than just a grocery store. It is actually more like a gas station with an extended convenience store. With that the prices aren't always the cheapest, but when you are in dire need of something at the last minute, you really don't care about prices. Speaking of prices, this is usually the cheapest spot along the road for gas prices. There are few and far places along this stretch of road, but it is consistently the cheapest. When I said this was the go to place in the community, I wasn't kidding. When I went to complete my purchase I had to wait for the local gab-fest to end in order to pay. I'm not knocking them for that, but we all know how it is at a place like this. You're an outsider.

After driving forever looking for a place to get something to eat, I came across the Flight 93 Memorial, which unfortunately was closed at the time. Several minutes after continuing east on the 30 (Lincoln Highway) I stopped at this gas station to grab a soda and whatever they had to go, but on entering the store I saw a good sized hometown restaurant with plenty of tables at the back of the store, and diner-style seating if you just want to pull up a stool for yourself. Sitting at the stools, I could see the kitchen was immaculately clean. I looked over the menu which was surprisingly comprehensive, with many items to choose from including burgers, tacos, pizza, sandwiches and a lot more, and even creative and harder to find, but great tasting food, like the cuban sandwich, which is what I ordered. It was just a few minutes past closing time, which I didn't know at the time, but was surprised to hear they were happy to make my sandwich for me. In a land of chain restaurants, where being closed means being closed, I really appreciated that personal effort on their part. The sandwich was excellent! It was so good I had to thank the chef personnally. I've had cubans before, and this was a great one. When I was done eating, I would have ordered another one for the road had it not been so late. The team here was great, friendly and fast. The prices are more than reasonable. Jeff the owner was great to talk to. He's a real friendly guy with some great success stories. In chatting with him I learned the restaurant had just been added only several months ago and was doing very well. I can see why. Based on the owner, the team he's brought together and the quality of the food and service, I would definitely recommend this location for any hungry travelers, family or solo. Next time I'm on this stretch of the 30, I'm definitely stopping here again. Notes: There is a large red digital sign that is part of the gas station sign advertising the restaurant. There is a picnic table outside. You can buy gas and all of the conveniences of a gas station you would expect. There is an ATM inside. They also have a walk-up window for ice cream. Plenty of parking all around the parking lot for the gas station. This location is directly on the 30 (Lincoln Highway) only minutes from the Flight 93 Memorial.

Seeing how there is no competition anywhere nearby, the price of gas is basically what you are stuck with. Four total pumps, not much else going on with the outside. I know a lot of people are raving about the diner portion of this business, but I was not able to partake in that. When I was here the diner was closed. I have really been missing out and I know as sure as I am sitting here typing this that I will stop in on my way to or from my home town again and again. My home town, Johnstown, Pa. Is known for their submarine sandwiches, referred to more often as a sub. Living and traveling all over the country I have now come to the conclusion that the only place to get a submarine sandwich is in my home town, but seeing this store is only twenty minutes away and close to the turnpike, I believed them when they had "Best subs in town" posted outside. Nada, their subs are like anyone else's "subs" in this country, six inches long and on a soft roll, where a Johnstown sub is on an 18-24 inch long crusty loaf of bread, layered with meats and cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, if you like and drizzled with an herb infused oil. However, all was certainly not lost, this country store is wonderful! Rows of very inexpensive fresh produce, aisles of locally made jams, noodles, canned goods, snacks and specialty items. Homemade baked goods, including gobs, a nice sized deli with incredible prices, fresh butchered meats and poultry as well as a frozen food section. They have really neat hot or cold food items ready to go like breakfast burritos, chicken salads, well many different salads and desserts, but have you ever had a stuffed hash brown? Seriously folks these are to die for and when I asked what was in them half the store's customers and most of the employees turned to me with oohs and awes telling me how good they were. Oh my gosh, they were stuffed with gooey cheese, browned sausage and onions and I got the last one, yay! I also got a small thinly sliced and lean tavern ham and Swiss cheese sandwich for my drive home, which was very good along with some pickled eggs for hubby and I'll eat the beets. They will make you a "sub" just like Subway or any other place makes them ( I call these hoagies ). I had a cooler in my car, bought a bunch of stuff and a bag of ice and saved lots of money. Oh and the gallon jugs of Galliker's ice tea that I was loving in Johnstown and buying at the Honey Bear two for five bucks were four for five bucks here, so I grabbed four more gallons. The folks are very friendly, everyone seemed to know each other by name. Opting for a flight, I found myself particularly drawn to their stout--an unexpected but delightful turn of events as I've recently developed a fondness for them. Adding to the ambiance, a small musical act entertained patrons in another area, while the presence of food trucks hinted at the culinary delights on offer. The last time I bought bacon from Froehlich's, it was so sub-par, the meat cutter hesitated to sell it to me after looking at it. What can I say?
