AVOIDDDDD It…read morehonestly pains me to have to even write this, because it truly goes against my nature of blasting a small business online and being "tattle-tale-y" in general. In October, I came in to buy CBD (my usual place is far away) and some essential oils. When I got there, I explained to the employee that I was looking for a mild CBD to help me relax, for a calming vibe, etc. I made it crystal clear the last thing I wanted was anything psychoactive as I have a heart condition, and other health concerns. He recommended a specific brand they had, and assured me it was non psychoactive and safe. I took it and went about my day. An hour or so later while eating dinner I began to fully hallucinate. I didn't know where I was, I was not fully conscious and It almost seemed like I was watching myself from outside of my body. I didn't know where I was, how to communicate, etc. (I don't smoke, but am actually a big supporter of the legalization of marijuana products in general ) I was essentially- fully hallucinating. I told my husband I needed to go to the ER and because we have a child who was trying to sleep, we had to call an ambulance. The Hospital treated me and I was tested, my urine came back positive for very very high amounts THC. Turns out, the brand he gave me is a synthetic CBD which causes full psychoactive effects. There are dozens of complaints with the FDA, people have been hospitalized, and I just heard from two friends that this happened to them or a loved one. I called the company the next day and this is where it gets shady, they told me that this particular item was pulled from the shelves a long time ago, they were absolutely shocked to hear this store still sold it. They also assumed it was expired and asked me for the batch number and expiration date and guess what ..... nothing on the bottle ! They said the stickers are on every bottle, so do with that what you will... My husband called the store after the incident and explained what happened, and at first they were apologetic and said they would remove it from the shelves. Thankfully, my insurance covered mostly the whole visit (it was thousands of dollars, if they did not cover it I would be out thousands) but I do have an ambulance fee and copay, which they agreed to pay for and said to call them back when we had the bill. Guess what? That was a lie. My husband tried calling them all week and they clearly screened his number, so today he called from my phone and they picked up and when they realized it was him they yelled "Go Fuck Yourself!!" and told him to not call back. I really don't want this to happen to anyone else, I don't trust that they even removed the items from the shelves, so please BE CAREFUL. Go spend your money elsewhere, other small businesses that actually care about the well-being of their customers, not this place. I am not trying to wine, or play the victim, honestly I just want to warn you all! I am considering getting legal representation, as I have documentation of everything.

With the proliferation of Whole Foods it's getting harder to find a local health food store that…read moreisn't either undersized or extremely overpriced. Olive May skirts around the stereotype. It's a big store with an extensive selection and it's not terribly overpriced, with many reasonable options, but you can suffer from sticker shock on some of the items on their shelves. I stumbled into this place looking for Chanca Piedra tea (great for kidney stones). The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I heard their interactions with other customers and they were all top-notch with a focus on understanding the people's issues so that the correct products could be recommended. I wandered through the aisles checking out their other items. Lots of organic juices. Lots of specialty items that are hard to find. They even had a freezer section that contained my favorite "healthy" snack, coconut milk ice cream sandwiches from So Delicious. Seriously, if you're lactose intolerant then you need these tasty delights in your life. I don't see shifting ALL my grocery needs to Olive May, but I will definitely pop in for their extensive organic options and those lovely ice cream sammiches.

I'll feel somewhat remiss as a (albeit somewhat rare) patron of Olive May Natural Foods if I don't…read moreleave a good review. The establishment is one of the few establishments in the area to be around going on for more than 100 years (a century) that one can walk into and likely leave with a consumable or item beneficial for one's health. Customer service is always solid; employees are efficient, kind, and willing to help. The establishment takes different forms of payment. Healthy vibes! The establishment is clean and very navigable.

I come across this "Health Food Herb Center" touting "meatless deli" to which I respond with a dash to the door. Upon walking in to this mysteriously [almost] meatless grocer/deli, I am in awe of their grocery options. Frozen mock meats (yes, an entire Thanksgiving faux turkey!), herbs/spices, cookies, teas, pastas, all sorts of incredible things! Then I get back to the deli counter, I was a little confused at first because there was some standard Boars Head fair. BUT ALAS, up in the top left corner, large deli-style loaves (I don't think that's what they're called but I'm going with it) or turkey, corned beef and salami. I opted for the salami, the lovely lady behind the counter let my try it first and my mouth erupted with salty, smokey flavor close enough to meet that I was beyond satisfied but not too close that I was hesitant. She LOADED my wrap with salami, carrots, onion, beets (shredded, she promised I wouldn't be able to taste them and she was not wrong), cabbage, vegenaise, oregano and cayenne pepper. There are very few things within the vegan spectrum that I salivate over, this was within the top 10. I grab a handful - okay 9 - of the various cookies and am on my way back to the office. Unwrapping this masterpiece had me as giddy as Jim Gaffigan when he eats bacon, there is some hardcore food envy from my non-vegan desk neighbors. The wrap was full of fresh, vibrant flavors, I could not be more thankful that this gem exists. These guys will make me look forward to coming to this office every single time now.
