Summertime rolls...Jane's Addiction harmony in my head…read more On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People's Co-op. I lived walking distance from People's Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service. This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People's Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It's the return and went to People's Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer's market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.

It was smaller than I anticipated - Pricey as I expected sadly - the selection of organic produce…read morewas really beautiful. The bulk section I think will be my go-to ... I REALLY appreciate buying truly only what I need in bulk vs committing to "bulk" packaging like Natural Grocers does. The people working there were nice and friendly - check out was easy and the human was helpful in answering my questions about the co-op. I've only been once - I'll go back - it's not convenient for me to get to on the regular so I'm not sure how often I'll be able to go. But my first time there was a fun time exploring :)

This location of Whole Foods is so convenient, located smack dab in the center of Hollywood. There…read moreis lots of convenient parking on the second level (accessed from the east side of the building across the street from SuperCuts) This is a very large Whole Foods location with all the conveniences one would expect. Their meat, cheese, bakery and freshly prepared foods sections are unparalleled. I come here for all my entertaining supplies, and sumptuous delicacies. Their petits four tea cakes are always available, absolutely darling, and crowd-pleasing. Whole Foods pricing is a bit higher than other markets in town, but this market carries many excellent products I can't find elsewhere. So you get what you pay for and I'm okay with that.

Whole Foods along Sandy Blvd stands out for all the right reasons: immaculately clean,…read morewell-organized, orderly, and visually appealing. The space is expansive and thoughtfully designed, with just enough of a laid back vibe that makes one forget about the immediate gentrification of the neighborhood, while also being aware that someone might just take something and run at a moment's notice. (#1) From the produce section to the prepared foods, every corner of the store reflects a high level of attention to detail. The real highlight during my visit was the bakery department. I came in expecting a standard pre-made cake and left with something that bordered on a work of art. The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly take pride in what they do--especially when it comes to cake decoration. The lettering was precise, the presentation flawless, and the result exceeded expectations in both appearance and service. If there's one consistent drawback, it's parking. Street parking in this part of Portland is often difficult and requires patience. It's not unique to this location, but it's worth noting if you're visiting during peak hours. Still, once inside, the store does a remarkable job delivering on what the brand promises--and in this case, perhaps a little more. ___________ (#1) A terrible west coast retail reference.
