I have only ever had to wait when an emergency patient took priority over my cleaning. Rather than having the hygienist give you a cleaning and then getting a quick cursory exam from the dentist, Dr. Barnes will do your cleaning. They have computerized everything, so that your records are easily accessible and update-able. Cathy, the receptionist is so warm and nice, she puts you at ease as soon as you walk in (in fact, she always greets me by name). She also is great at explaining any questions you might have about billing. This is where I refer all my friends and colleagues, and I hope that I never have to find another dentist.

My two young children were patients of Dr. McKenzie from 2025-2026; though we have had problems with her from the beginning, we put up with her because her office was conveniently located downtown. We had made our first appointment with her for a routine cleaning, for which she charged us $398. When my children showed minor discomfort with the dental chair, instead of working with my children or giving me a chance to put them at ease, she made me take more time off of work to come back later. During the follow-up appointment, the cleaning was less thorough than the twice-daily brushing that the children have at home. She did not use a polisher or any other dental tools, and the only task that she did that I could not do myself was apply flouride paste to the children's teeth. We came back after my daughter fell and injured her mouth. I had mistakenly thought that my daughter's tooth had fallen out and wanted to get the injury professionally examined. Dr. McKenzie was so inept that, even after examining my daughter, she did not realize that the tooth was actually pushed into my daughter's gum. (I found out weeks later after the tooth began reemerging.) The last straw for us happened when we were 15 minutes late for one of the children's appointments due to a subway delay. (The children had back to back appointments scheduled at 10am and 1030am.) We had called in advance of the appointment to let Dr. McKenzie know that we would be running late and provided an accurate ETA, and Dr. McKenzie's assistant told us that we could still come in. It was not until after we arrived that we were told that both of the appointments would be cancelled, even though we had called ahead and were 15 minutes early for the second appointment, and that we would be charged a $200 cancellation fee.

"Root canal teeth are more likely to break during extractions" Yes, any tooth can break during extraction though, that was an excuse. She even made sure to include in quotations on my referral that i wanted the tooth removed for "Convenience" - you don't know my life. If i have to get my wisdom tooth removed to have anything done to this molar, as someone with Anxiety & PTSD that's a far harder thing for me to come to terms with. a complete lack of respect from the Dr. She could of left it at, "Sorry, i just don't want to pull this tooth" and sent me on my way. Instead she had to make me feel like a child, who doesn't know what i'm talking about. The dental ASSISTANT was a joy though. Very friendly & kind, easy to talk too - & was understanding of my reasoning even if she didn't agree. Overall would not recommend this place if you're looking for a primary dentist.

I had bonding for 40 years and had gotten a small chip, so I had a small gap again, which I wish I would've just kept! Dentists don't want to do bonding, anymore, as I guess there's not enough money in that. I keep wishing I could go back because I HATE MY TEETH NOW!!! I am someone who smiles constantly; now, I keep my mouth closed as much as I can. I had a small overbite, which I discussed with Dr. Cooper asking how the veneers would affect that. Three dentists, including Dr. Cooper, had expressed that my two front teeth were "too big." I love my teeth and have had 40 years of compliments about my smile! Dr. Cooper said she would do four veneers and make the two front teeth a little smaller and the other two slightly larger. After almost 6 weeks of a comedy of errors (wrong veneers sent twice, one the color was too dark (but probably not), the fourth and final ones in my mouth--I have two HUGE front buck teeth, a HUGE overbite (I'm so uncomfortable when people can see my teeth from the side), and the veneers are a TOTALLY DIFFERENT COLOR from my natural teeth!!!!!!! Oh, my veneers were EVEN BIGGER than they are now--I had Dr. Cooper shave them down!! I CANNOT EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL!!! I am having the veneers removed and ortho (Invisalign) because I can't even take a chance of another botched job! I paid $1500 for the ortho as that's what I was told at the other dentist office to get started. Turns out I need to pay another $3500 for a total of $5000 for them to do the gum surgery, temporary veneers, and ortho fitting. I just paid $7152 at Laurel Smiles, which brings me to $8,652 I've now spent. I can't afford to pay anymore right now, so I'm stuck with these HORRENDOUS things in my mouth until I can afford to get them removed and do the new treatment. On top of that, I will now be forced to wear a retainer in my mouth four nights a week for the rest of my life!!!!! If you're getting all veneers, maybe you'll be okay. If you're not, KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER DENTIST!!!! I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW I WISH I COULD TURN BACK TIME!!!! OH, THE REPAIR JOB--JUST UNDER $15,000 WITH A DISCOUNT!! As a teenager, I paid approximately $4,000 out of pocket for braces without insurance. At the time, I chose Premiere Dental Care not only because of the services offered, but also because I wanted to support a Black-owned business located near my grandparents' store in Washington, DC. As a Maryland resident, I made that choice despite not having the convenience of living nearby. After completing my treatment, I was provided with a retainer. Unfortunately, I later lost the retainer, and my gap has since begun to reopen. When I contacted the office to ask about obtaining a replacement retainer, I was informed that I would need to return for a new mold. The problem is that I now live over two hours away, making an in-person visit difficult. More importantly, taking a new mold now would capture my teeth in their current state, including the reopening gap that I paid thousands of dollars to correct. I worked hard and made significant sacrifices to pay for my orthodontic treatment without insurance. I invested in braces specifically to close the gap in my teeth, and it is frustrating to now be in a position where I may need to spend an additional $3,000 on Invisalign or other corrective treatment because I cannot obtain a replacement retainer based on my post-treatment results. As a loyal patient who supported your practice and paid entirely out of pocket, I expected more flexibility and assistance in preserving the results of my treatment.
